  • A bit of an issue with eyes using Face Transfer

Face Transfer saves out its own copy of G8 and even though I applied a mat preset, it would not keep it on closing.

So for characters one may want to reuse alot, one can create a new morph to a NEW G8 figure [FT is loaded in the Viewport, transfer over the bridge to Hexagon, back in D/S remove FT and load in a Fresh G8, BASE resolution, then from Hexagon send the file back over the bridge to D/S and make the morph being sure to use an unique name] then apply a mat preset [made from that FT figure before deleting it from the scene], then apply the eye mat preset you want to use, then resave the entire mat preset. Remember to save the new morph too ;-)

End result is you still have the FT scene subset plus you would have a morph for use in any G8 figure as well as the mat presets.

n.b. always "reverse deformations" when making morphs for G3 and G8 figures.

  • MimicMolly's Renders & WIPs

An attempt was made to recreate this pokemon "kid" called N. ("Kid" because the character is 18-20 but still quite child-like in terms of behavior.) Here is a picture of the character in the artwork. Now, we just had Hiro 8, Kenji 8, and the like this would've been so much easier, because I could go toonier instead of "realistic".

This is my attempt. I actually re-used the same base morph I used for his dad, then just tried to make it look yoinger but also kinda awkward because that's really the most accurate description of him. Also, this G8M version of him is now a cowboy because that makes him more American. Gotta make use of the Diego 8 stuff I got. I used SquarePeg3D's Bowsette hair with SloshWerk's Colorwerks (the original one). Once again, the hair color doesn't quite match and tempts me to make my own custom edited map. I think my problem is that I want the hair to be less solid color and have other slight shades of green in there. Perhaps even a bit mixed with blond.

This test render has some post-work done on MS Paint. To cover up some poke-thru with the hair. And I used the Sickeyield Hat Helper, which helped a lot. I don't think a fuller similar hair for G8M exists unless I did some random SBH mix and then used ColorWerks Xtreme over it. I'm undecided on the skin, I need to figure out how to make him paler than this..

  • "Duplicate Formulas Found" is KILLING me!

Well, behind the scenes chatter said it was a certain vendor's product causing the problems, but I deleted the character in question (don't remember who) and it hasn't solved the problem.. So how do we solve this? It's just PLAIN STUPID that it hangs up your studio. You have to sit there and wait for the popup before you can X out of it and the studio continues.

The log identifies which specific characters and morphs are causing the "Duplicate Formulas" problem. If removing one character/morph package doesn't resolve the problem, it's because you have other problematic packages in your library. Clear your scene, clear your log, reload the G3/G8 base character, check your log for the next problem package. Lather, rinse, repeat until the problem disappears.

  • Okay Lucy...'Splain (Face Transfer Unlimited)

On a fresh load of G8, save out a material preset checking off ONLY all the eye materials. For a render you can then apply that eye preset to the Face Transfer's figure. It will not save any changes made to its materials though.

So if using the character frequently, might want to consider making a proper morph on a FRESHLY loaded G8 figure, apply a mat preset made from the FT figure, then apply the eye preset of your choice and then resave out that complete mat preset. Remember to also save the morph which MUST be named differently than whatever you have named the FT figure.

  • Does anyone know if there is a Puss n Boots for Daz Housecat?

Thank you! I really want to do a tuxedo on a cat or dog. Make it look like people as animals kinda deal.

That's funny. You can do the famous dogs at a table playing poker scene.

You may need to 'unlock' limits on the joints for posing on the cat or dog to get into a T-pose like human characters. If the clothing is for Genesis 8 & is in an A-pose I recommend putting the clothing in a T-pose and not the cat or dog in a A-pose because using the dFormer is easier in a T-pose than an A-pose.

You may want to get a final nice draped fit for the cat or dog clothing use a dForce clothing simulation to drape the clothing on the cat or dog (and then do the whole export clothing as obj, import clothing as obj, and Transfer Tool to transfer rigging & weightmaps to the obj, save as prop/morph asset). You may like it better or you may not but just keep in mind if you want to try dForce for a better clothing drape.

There are several tuxedos to choose from. Just remember when the autofollow for the clothing leaves the clothing sort of crumpled (sometimes) for some poses that you can slightly change pose of the clothing itself independent of the cat or dog's pose.

  • Why Centaurs?

    donalddade said:

Can someone demystify this for me? Why are centaurs apparently a thing in Daz Studio? I mean, it seems a strange and awfully specific niche... why are centaurs so numerous and not unicorns, a pegasus, satyrs, or any other mythical beasts?

Because Satyr (human + leg morph and horn), pegasus (horse + wings) and unicorn (horse + horn) are easier to do by yourself than centaur (human body + horse body)

    Just Satyr is :

    • Genesis 8
    • HFS Ultimate Shapes (leg morph)
    • Universal Horns (goat horns)

And these products already exist :

    • Horse 2 Unicorn
    • Pegasus (wings for DAZ Horse 2)
    • Bonus : Water Horse 2
    • Bonus : Minotaur (TOR)

  • Pre-Made Animations

There is a YouTube tutorial on how to convert the animations from FBX to Genesis 8 figures, but it requires MotionBuilder, which costs nearly $2,000 per year. However it does have a free trial that runs for 30 days.  I would be quite confident if it can transfer FBX to Genesis 3 figures also.

I downloaded only the FBX animations that I need (90 of them, to be exact), so I will likely be downloading the trial version of MotionBuilder tonight, and will work on at least five animations this evening.  It looks like I got a lot of work ahead of me for the next several weeks.

MotionBuilder is a powerful tool, as the video's narrator boasts.  It sounds very promising.

I bought the Face Transfer unlimited package but I'm getting messages from Face Transfer that am using up my free transfers. Am I supposed to somehow enable the unlimited transfers?

Have you entered the serial number in Help>About Installed Plug-ins and restarted DS? https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/serialnumbers

  • Rigging, how to use memorize?

You memorise the rigging i its base state, and DS uses that as a starting point for any Adjust Rigging to Shape commands (and stores them as offsets from the base). You should do it only once (barring corrections), before starting to load morphs, as far as I know. When you use Adjust Rigging to Shape it is actually changing the joint centres, so if you do an ERC Freeze to link the chnages to the morph you need to have the Restore Rigging option set, or manually restore the rigging, afterwards to avoid breaking the normal bending.

@Wonderland: Nice render, looks better than most of the promos!

@The Blurst of Times: Thank you! Summer is one for the wishlist for me. Her skin looks nice, and her morph without Raven looks like a great starting point.

  • Does anyone know if there is a Puss n Boots for Daz Housecat?

    a) Buy the assortend Pirate Gear from M4/V4 era that's PC+ items ($1.99 each),

    b) pose the updated MilCat like a person for the poses you need & save the poses as presets

    c) resize, translate, rotate the clothing to mostly look like it is fitting the cat in a T-Pose

    d) Use the dFormer Tool to reshape portions of the clothing to fit the cat better (patience & loose clothing looks & works best). (you can add multiple deformers to an article of clothing and scale them to a size that only affect a particular area of the clothing).

    e) Export the dForce altered clothing as wavefront obj  files (hide everything in scene except the particular article of clothing you are working on).

    f) Unhide the hidden cat, import the obj of clothing you just exported. (now you can make more sizing adjustments again if need be & export the results as an obj again & import as an obj again as your goal is to a loose but not oversized fit to make the clothing look like typical clothing on a person but not skin tight clothing on a cat (which will look weird))

    g) Use Transfer Tool Source: the cat Target the obj just imported (transfer rigging, don't transfer surfaces, default for both, check the boxes for adjust tolerance for fit, check the both for create smoothing and autofollow at the bottom)

    h) save aa...  the new clothing you just fit to the cat as a morph/prop asset

    i) Repeat for each article of Puss-n-Boots clothing you want.

I just did this for Toon Generations for G8M wardrobe onto Toon Mouse and while the fit and autofollow isn't alway great it does actually work and looks pretty good. You can adjust the clothing when it doesn't quite autoffollow correctly when posing by posing the clothing to eliminate pokethrough & such. The clothing will have the same weightmaps & rig as the cat if you did the Transfer Tool correctly.

Search on youTube for how to use the Transfer Tool & dFormers. Not difficult but can be tedious.

  • Daz Studio 4.12 Pro, General Release! (*UPDATED*)

4.11 with Optix Prime on: the first frame rendered using GPU, the second and subsequent frames fell back to CPU.

4.11 with Optix Prime unchecked (off): all frames rendered with GPU.

Looks like either a out of vram issue or a bad driver. Assuming that cuda takes about 1G for the working buffer, then optix takes another 1G, then iray itself may double the scene data when rendering animations, you may try with a simple animation scene taking less than 2G vram itself. If this renders fine with optix then it's a out of vram issue, otherwise it's likely a driver issue.

You may also try rendering with the viewport in iray mode, since this way iray doesn't reload the textures for every frame. This should speedup things and may also help with vram handling.

In my system I can render animations fine. I use 4.11 with a 6G 1060 card and I keep optix on and the viewport in iray mode. But I usually render the characters separate from the scene then I composite them later. This way I get about one-two minutes per frame that's not bad for animation.

The full system specs are in my signature. I also reserve the 1060 for rendering, that is, my monitor is wired to the mobo so I use the vega card for the viewport. May be this also helps iray to better handle the 1060 vram.

Though I only use daz studio for simple personal projects and I use blender for "real" production.

Yes, I keep coming back to thinking about Blender but I always find excuses why to put off learning that scary node system. I have an 8GB 1070 so it shouldn't be too much to ask for a simple scene with two characters and a few props to render a few frames of animation. I even have all the character texture sizes reduced vy Scene Optimizer. But it still fails in IRay. So I might, at last, have to knuckle down and learn how to transfer scenes and set up materials in Blender. Eevee could probably render my short animations in a few minutes but I suspect it might take hours to set up the materials.

I updated the driver to the latest, by the way.

  • Genesis 9 delayed until at least 2020. Will you be buying it?

if you want to realase Genesis 9 make her morphs built in with her base figure , There is no need to make morph separate files zip .

Who buy the genesis 9 without her Morphs .

nobody, that's why the bases are free

but I honestly think Victoria and Micheal pro should include the main morph packages instead of the other bundled crap they do enlightened

most only buy them for the anatomical elements

barely anyone buys them for the usually hideous outfits and silly poses that get tossed in

  • Okay Lucy...'Splain (Face Transfer Unlimited)

It appears to be new, just released along with Daz 4.12.  I purchased it and it's not too hard.  My only complaint is the eyes, they're full of white dots when you render in Iray.  I've tried to use several different eye color options and they are all the same, dotty.

I have the same problem. It really ruins the whole idea of the transfer! So then its better to just use another characther skin
bit you loose some of the original characther with that!

  • Face Transfer

Most of my DS compositions are character based, and as a writer I use Daz to create characters, sometimes for book covers, but I always want unique characters so that none of mine ever appear anywhere else. I began with Genesis and Genesis 2; skipped 3, but so far only have one created from the G8F (I've found I always get better results with G2), so I bought the Face Transfer in part for to help with G8, but mostly in preparation for G9 when it eventually appears. I've used FaceGen for when an actual person inspires a character, usually an actor or actress, but with mostly poor results. However, I've tried a 3 experiments with Face Transfer and each one has been closer to the photograph than I ever got with FaceGen, though so far I've not saved any as I've not had the time to do the necessary tweaking which is essential, and that can take hours.

Re Zilvergrafix "Real faces" above, the Natalie Portman rendition is more disappointing than I would have expected considering the short hair. Other photos I've tried where there's hair touching or just covering the jaw and cheekbones have all failed, as above, as there's always that sharp jawline distortion. Another photo I tried in which the hair was short also had some red-tinged lighting, so on using Face Transfer half of the face came out a totally different colour! I would have preferred Face Transfer not to add skin colour as that can be done to one's preferences independently.
