  • Face Transfer - flat mouth?

There's a big thread over here about Face Transfer.

  • Daz Studio 4.12 Pro, General Release! (*UPDATED*)

What is this Avatar SDK mentioned in the 4.12.1.x private channel release notes? An extension of the Morph 3D/Taffy avatar system they said they was working on?

I don't know, but I did wonder if it might be related to Face Transfer (perhaps it's the underlying technology).

    OK, thanks.

I don't think it does enough morphs? I am just speculating here but it is my impression from the work people have posted that it just pastes face texture on face and moves geometetry a little. I think that this type of software needs multiple photo from multiple angles and some work in a 3d modeler or something like 3d paint or zbrush to have decent results. I have tried the paid for software that does face transfers and it just does not work period. I end up just buying the morphs that people make and put up for sale on renderosity and am pleased with how close the likeness is.  I think it is just too much work to make a real likeness and the face software is like step one and the rest needs fixing in serious software.

Yep, I worked with a program like this in Poser, which has a Morph Brush, and that would help a great deal. (Hopefully, DAZ Studio 5 will have a Morph Brush.) Anyway, the appropriate skin texture does a lot to  make the "face" look like the person in the picture. This is less than ideal, though, when you can't match the skin texture on the face to the skin on the rest of the figure.

But, as you're seeing, if you examine the "morphed" face without the texture, the morphing is not precise. Using a package of face and head morphs will help; that, and some additional morphing, maybe in Z Brush?

I would usually choose a skin texture that approximated, to me, the kind of skin shown in the picture, and use that all over the character.

Well, just think if you were a Mac user: There's only the Head Shop app available. But DAZ provided a free Face Transfer for Windows users. Sigh!

Yeah, Facegen does ALL Genesis models, even G1. I think it is kind of messed up that Daz's own Face Transfer is the ONLY ONE out of the three face making apps that does not support multiple generations of Genesis. Head Shop does 2, 3, and 8. Yet Daz Face Transfer only supports the latest Genesis 8. It makes it look like Daz does not care about their previous generations at all.

  • iray to 3delight hair

    Sven Dullah

Thank you very much for the script! He helped me understand how it works. I got a great result! :) Is this method suitable for any iray hairstyle? Or i need different methods for each hairstyle?

Very glad you found it useful;) Well the method can be used for any hair, just note that the materials preset I posted is for Sara Hair only. What you can do is load Sara Hair, apply the preset, save as a shader preset but, in the save menu, uncheck maps. Then you can apply the shader preset to any hair but need to manually load the maps. Also note that, for hair props that use the IRay Uber shader, you can normally use the IRay to 3DL conversion script, but for hairs like many OOT hairs, that use custom shaders like OOT hair blending, the script won't necessarily work or some maps will not transfer, so then you will have to locate and load the maps manually.

And yet, can I somehow speed up the rendering of hairstyles for 3Delight? I use uberenvironment 2, I turn off occlusion and ray tracer but I don’t see the difference ..

Sara hair and many other OOT hairs look great but are rather complex models, that of course goes for most new hair products I'm afraid:) Turning off occlusion for the hair surfaces will help. Turning off raytracing means the hair won't show in reflective surfaces, such as glass, water, metals. So if your scene has a lot of metal etc. disabling raytracing will have an impact on rendertimes. Also, if the hair looks good enough with base resolution, it will render a bit faster than with high resolution (SubD). If you own the AoA lights (Age of Armor), swapping the standard distant- and spotlights for AoA lights will speed up rendering quite a bit. If you don't have them I recommend looking into them. And the AoA ambient light is much faster than UE2, only it will not take environment maps. I often use the AoA ambient for occlusion and UE2 in ambient mode for backdrop/environment color. Hope this helps...can't think of anything useful to add at this pointsmiley

Edit: There is actually one more thing. If you want to render with HDRIs, check out IBL-Master by Parris. He made a light shader that renders 3DL transmapped hair pretty darn fast;)

why I get message like this 'face transfer failed to generate try a different source image' pls help me!

What was the source image? I'm not sure it would give that error, but have you isntalled the updated Genesis 8 Starter Essentials?

yes but still gives that error so annoying.I guess it is rare for you guys. I need to solve this

So what was the source image?

  • DAZ Studio 4.12 ... Face creation abilities????

Even if I do not get nice textures all the time after Face Transfer, it creates quite distinct morphs, that can be used with different materials.

Below is another face transfer example with Darius 8 materials applied - https://www.daz3d.com/darius-8

  • Handling eyelashes at Head Morph for Genesis 8 Female

Also make sure you have saved your head morph as a morph asset. If it hasn’t been saved, the autofollow for the eyelashes sometimes doesn’t work correctly.

    Thank you! :D

I purchased and still have forehead tattoos. What gives?

Get your serial here, enter in DAZ Studio Serial Number location for Face Transfer plugin, restart DAZ Studio, & you're good to go. Or should be. You need to be on Windows 64 bit though.

  • Face Transfer

Most of my DS compositions are character based, and as a writer I use Daz to create characters, sometimes for book covers, but I always want unique characters so that none of mine ever appear anywhere else. I began with Genesis and Genesis 2; skipped 3, but so far only have one created from the G8F (I've found I always get better results with G2), so I bought the Face Transfer in part for to help with G8, but mostly in preparation for G9 when it eventually appears. I've used FaceGen for when an actual person inspires a character, usually an actor or actress, but with mostly poor results. However, I've tried a 3 experiments with Face Transfer and each one has been closer to the photograph than I ever got with FaceGen, though so far I've not saved any as I've not had the time to do the necessary tweaking which is essential, and that can take hours.

Re Zilvergrafix "Real faces" above, the Natalie Portman rendition is more disappointing than I would have expected considering the short hair. Other photos I've tried where there's hair touching or just covering the jaw and cheekbones have all failed, as above, as there's always that sharp jawline distortion. Another photo I tried in which the hair was short also had some red-tinged lighting, so on using Face Transfer half of the face came out a totally different colour! I would have preferred Face Transfer not to add skin colour as that can be done to one's preferences independently.

I think there's information in my tutorial which may be of interest for your projects.

The sharp jaw morphing ... the lighting needs to be more even as the plugin appears to be reading the "light" of the face as the edge of the face.

After you have saved as a scene subset THROUGH the plugin, then you can tweak the images which will be located in your texture folders.

why I get message like this 'face transfer failed to generate try a different source image' pls help me!

One reason can be that it is not a "head" ... one of the images I used in my tutorial illustrates that. If all you have is a close-up on the face, in an image editor put it inside a "head" frame and try again.

  • Teen Raven thoughts...

Teen Raven 8...  Well, this character would take some work.  I tweaked the skin so much, I barely remember what all I did.  I think I dropped the Diffuse Overlay Weight down 0.8 for the makeup, Translucency down to .25, Bump down to 3.5, plus fiddled endlessly with the eyes to try and get the sclera to not be brown (never worked unless I cleared the Base Color Map).  I don't think the skin is bad overall, it just takes some fine tuning to make it look decent.  And no, that morph doesn't look like a teen.  She looks early to mid twenties to me.  I think that might come down to the detail on the skin, though.  The right texture would probably change that.

  • RTX Benchmark thread...show me the power
The missing morph files are just an artifact of how it was originally saved, and make no impact. What you can do is load the scene and then save it again without making any changes. This will save it without those morphs, so if you load it up again you will no longer get those errors and it will load faster.

  • RTX Benchmark thread...show me the power

was going to try bench with my new 2070 super, but there are files missing in the scene:

    data/daz 3d/genesis 2/female/morphs/daz 3d/base/fbmemaciated.dsf

    data/daz 3d/genesis 2/female/morphs/daz 3d/base/fbmpearfigure.dsf

    data/daz 3d/genesis 2/female/morphs/daz 3d/base/phmearselflong.dsf
anyway, rendered, but no idea where these numbers are you guys are lisitng. Mine only says at the end ..
Total Rendering Time: 42.9 seconds  I have RTX 2070 Super CPU AMD 3800X
So if I'm following correctly ...

    RTX 2070 Super/DS4.12.0.86/600/42.9 =13.986

Don't use the "Total Rendering Time" figure.  Once the scene has completed, save the image and then go to the log file.  The final line should look something like this:

    2019-10-06 16:09:47.528 Iray [INFO] - IRAY:RENDER ::   1.0   IRAY   rend info : CUDA device 0 (GeForce RTX 2080 Ti): 600 iterations, 2.958s init, 28.806s render

Use the final render time (28.806s in the example above) and divide 600 by that to get the mega samples/sec.

Also, I get a long list of missing morph files too.  Doesn't seem to make much difference to the final times recorded.

  • Facegen now on sale...get it!

    Hello everybody!
I bought FaceGen Artist Pro 2.1, the latest version as of this post. It has been noticed not only by me but by many users that the software generates a deformation of the eyes and Jaw, which compromises its facial and orbital axis expression when closing it. I have already contacted the software manufacturer, but there is no precise date for a fix.

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/279156/asking-facegen-artist-pro-users

Export the base resolution mesh with it dialed in

use morphloader and select attenuate by surface choose face and create morph one

do it again choose lips and create morph 2

then once more choose head/torso create morph 3

maybe ears etc if needed depends on how much out

dial those all in and not the Facegen morph

    export that obj

use that one in morphloader to create your fixed morph and save it as support asset morph and drill down to the right box and check it
