  • What do I need to make my dream girl

I cannot agree with what you wrote. V4 has a big market, sure - she's been around for much longer than the other figures. Fortunately, clothes, hairstyles and poses - heck, even textures! - made for her can be used on Genesis and perhaps with a bit more tweaking Gen2F/Gen2M. However, nobody knows when she will slowly become less supported. I estimate she still has a few years to go: Poser doesn't love DSON, which is needed to use TriAx figures like Genesis and Gen2F/Gen2M, while Poser figures like Anastasia still look much worse for the majority of 3D users.

Starting out with spending $100 is the worst thing one can do in 3D if you're not a real nabob. 3D is expensive and you will have to buy the majority of props, hairstyles, clothes and, of course, morphs. Thus persuading a newbie to buy V4 and all her stuff (let's count most V4 characters need Morphs++, A4, then another lot S4 and Elite Morphs) is suicide. Who knows what appeals to Iceman? He or she didn't say a word about it. What if he/she changes his/her mind and decides to go for adolescent or male renders? Don't tell me V4 has Vittorio morph, because I can count stuff that supports him... her... it... on a single palm of a war veteran :P. I'd be much better to buy Genesis Evolution Morph Bundle that exchanges Morphs++ from Generation 4 and probably Genesis Creature Creator Bundle (both when on Fast Grab, they show up quite frequently there). Still, Iceman, check what you get out of the box.

Another thing is buying poses. I don't intend to say all those vendors who sell them aren't needed. Heck, their work is amazing! But considering a newbie still has a huge bill to invest, posing requires just simple knowledge of human anatomy to understand how the body bends and adding to it the abundance of free poses out there, starting with buying poses doesn't sound good for a newbie. Most-Digital-Creations DOES support parallel downloads. I don't know why you're using the reasoning that it will take ages to get them. I, of course, have no idea about your Internet provider, but for me a typical pack by AdamThwaites downloads in seconds. He's got outstanding packs for free AND they're the perfect choice for female renders, because now they support V4, V5 (a shape for Genesis) and V6 (a shape for Gen2F)! I still second what the others said: first, check what you get for free and then fill the gaps with purchasables.

A short summary of what are the most popular morph packs from DAZ for each figure:
    a) Genesis:
    - http://www.daz3d.com/morphs/genesis-creature-creator-bundle
    - http://www.daz3d.com/morphs/ethnicity-for-genesis-bundle
    b) Gen2F:
    c) Gen2M:
    d) V4:
    - http://www.daz3d.com/aiko-4-base
    - http://www.daz3d.com/morphs/v4-elite-body-shapes
    - http://www.daz3d.com/v4-elite-ethnic-faces
    e) M4:
    - http://www.daz3d.com/hiro-4-base
    - http://www.daz3d.com/m4-elite-ethnic-faces

Two bundles that cover the majority of them:
    - http://www.daz3d.com/daz-bundles/super-physicality-bundle (without A4, S4, H4 and Ethnic Faces)

I think basic maths will show how much it costs... You've got time, I am sure that over a timespan, you will get most of those sets, but getting them all at one time... ouch. To sum it up, a better idea if you really have to get rid of your money as soon as possible, get GenX - preferably the second version. This way you can transfer morphs designed for Generation 3 or 4 to Genesis, with Genesis 2 addon, Gen2F/Gen2M to Genesis. Even the other way around, I think, when it comes to Genesis-Genesis 2.

Don't forget TriAx figures like Genesis and Gen2F/Gen2M bend much better than Generation 4 ones!

  • Male Equivalent to the Girl 6?

The Girl predates Gen4. She started out as a standalone figure. http://www.daz3d.com/people/the-girl

She eventually gained a counter part in Guy 4 Michael 4. http://www.daz3d.com/guy-4-michael-4

Your best bet for a Gen6 counterpart for Girl6, would be to use GenX2 and transfer Guy 4, and maybe update his look a bit.

To use the V4/M4 textures you will need the Victoria 4 and Michael 4 shapes for Genesis 2. They not only give you the shape, but the UVs necessary.

  • Is it worth investing in Victoria 6 and Michael 6

Hi, I am planning do some new clothes and poses for Victoria 4 and Michael 4, the clothes will be based on the British RAF Uniform and British Air Cadet Uniforms, plus Ninjutsu suit and items, the poses will be RAF Poses like saluting, Parading, and other RAF / Air Cadets poses, and Ninjutsu Poses based on the Various techniques like blocking, rolling, striking, throwing, grappling and stances used in Ninjutsu (Bujinkan Ninjutsu)

Should I invest in Victoria 6 and Michael 6 instead of using Victoria 4 and Michael 4.

and what tools would I need ( I have Daz Pro 4.6 and Blender 2.70a plus I use Gimp as my drawing package

Do any other gen 2 males figures have a set of gens? (other than in the pro bundle)

What I mean is ... For example gens that come with Beck for M4 work since I add them with my Michael 4 base. This is less expensive than buying a Pro bundle.

Are there any combinations like this with Gen 2 Males?

    Thank you

If I recall correctly, the M4 gens don't require a Pro Bundle but do require Michael 4 Morphs ++.

The Genesis 2 Male gens are, at least at the moment, only available with the Michael 6 Pro Bundle or the Gianni 6 Pro Bundle. Edit: I wouldn't be surprised if, in the future, additional ways to get the gens may become available, but probably nothing less than a Pro Bundle.

It should be enough to select the eyebrow and apply the material preset you sued on the Genesis figure. As i said, this is not likely to be a UV issue as the whole point is to take a section of skin that doesn't have brows and use it to cover the brows on the texture - so there are going to be seams, which the transmap should blend, and there may be colour or detail mismatches which are not fixable - the item won't work there. However, it does look as if Elliandra is right is you are just copying and pasting settings as the Genesis materials use the Human Surface Shader and the eyebrow uses the Default DAZ Shader on loading.
hm, let me try to understand:
You suggest I should set each value of the brow replacement to the same values / maps as it is for the Genesis face skin manually?
I once tried that way. In the result, the white area stayed white and the text "please replace ..." was still present in the red color. After trying to apply the real brows (what is the last step in the normal process) nothing happened and in the render result there was still the white cover in place of the original brows.

You should have a look to it.
The brow skin cover has the same parameters, except the UV set "Michael 4" vs "Default UVs".
And there isn't any that different skin color near to the brow area in the Genesis face skin map. You may have a look at it, too.

Note that you have to use the same skin for both Genesis and the brow prop - rereading your post above it sounds as if you are expecting a single preset that will work with any skin texture.

Yes, I did. I selected the brow replacement area with the surface selecting tool and applyed the Genesis face material preset. And it is really that skin preset of the selected character. So every skin setting was automatically replaced with the Genesis properties - except the UV set. And in the workplane, it looked OK (as you see in the picture). But only in the render, there was the difference. And this is only due to the wrong lighting model of the different UV sets.

    Therefore:
It seems that I'm complete lost.
Please somebody post a detailed manual with explict screenshots of each step. I really don't know, what to try else. I thought I did exactly that what Richard and Eliandra described.

    Thank you

From what you just posted you missed the step of adding the trans map back. It gets removed when you add the Genesis texture and you need to add it back before use. This it To the Brow Prop item of course.

No, they should show in Smart Content if you don't have something selected in the scene.

Weird that you have the current package but old metadata files. Can you uninstall and reinstall Michael 4 Base (if you have the Public Beta installed you'll need to reimport metadata in the general release after reinstalling M4 Base).

    Hi Richard,

    I exactly followed that workflow.
In the result you see, that in the workplane it seems to be OK. But the render shows the difference of the color resulting from the wrong UV-set.
The UV-set of the eyebrows replacement section (trans map - as you call it) is "Default UVs". But the correct UV for the skin must be "Michael 4", as it is for the normal skin of the Genesis male (material setting). And there is now way to apply the correct Genesis UV-set for the brow area afterwards.

This is what has to be corrected.
For my oppinion the author never tested the render result.

But if you really think it works correct, so please show the workflow with screenshots for each single step.
And please don't forget the final render. ;)

  • can i use growing up with Beck ?

The short answer is "No, they aren't compatible." The more detailed answer is "Yes, but it will require additional purchases and/or significant effort, and depending on how young you want the character to look, the results might be odd."

    Here are two options:

    1. Use the Beck textures on the Genesis figure, and use the Growing Up for Genesis product to make him younger. Beck's morphs are not compatible with Genesis, however, unless you use Genesis Generation X2 to convert them or do a manual conversion (Kattey has a thread describing this process).

    2. If you own "Michael 4 for Genesis 2 Male," then you can use the Beck textures on Genesis 2 Male, and use the Growing Up for Genesis 2 Male(s)" product to make him younger. Again, if you want to use Beck's morphs you will need to convert them. You could use Genesis Generation X2 plus the Genesis 2 add-on for that product to convert them.

How young do you want to go? I don't own Beck, but it appears that all of his texture options have at least a little bit of stubble, which might look wrong if you want to create a young boy.

  • Anatomy bundle with Gen5 or Gen6

These bundles are supplied with the base figure that they were intended for, Victoria 4 and Michael 4.
Generation 5 is Genesis, and Generation 4 clothing can apply to Genesis via Autofit with varying results. What exactly do you want to do with these bundles?
The Skin and Muscle maps should work on Genesis, since it is UV Mapped to take textures from V4, M4 and the Kids 4, but the organs are conforming as far as I can tell, and they would need to rely on Autofit (or manual placement on Genesis) I don't have these sets, so I cannot try it out for you, but someone else may be able to help,
Since the base Generation 4 figures are supplied along with the bundle, it would be much simpler to just use them.

  • Daz Instal manager problems. Mac

Ahhhh. Ok. Well I still don't see Olympia. Or Vicky 4. But I do see Michael 4, and some of the genesis.

It appears that some of that depends on if you have files. or products selected at the top of the screen. Though I can't say as I understand the difference between the two. I think Daz does some of this just to confuse people more.

I can't say as I like smart content much either. But one thing thats nice. If a hair is selected. Then all the associated files and textures pop up making it easier to handle.

Maybe I'll have to try and toss the CMS, and reinstall all that. Groan......

    Thanks

I also have it in my Dropbox public folder:

Speaking of getting a lot for your money... wow! I love evilproducer's freebie Fantasy Village Kit! It, too, comes with an amazing pdf booklet full of tips, and use information, options that he built into the kit, all manner of greatness. Buy this Freebie right away!

BTW, knowing that you already use Woodlands, you should also know that I experimented with the shaders (I'm always experimenting with Shaders, since they can do so much in a Carrara scene) from each of the kits - combining mine into his, keeping his hand-painted roads and using the shaders from my Environkits underneath... worked beautifully... and was a fun practice! If you ever want to try that, but get stuck on how to... let me know. I'm really comfortable with the process ;)

I've also had fun adding the Woodlands Object groups (Blocks of trees on terrain) into his village set, towards the outer regions of the village. It all works together very nicely!

This one was a fun experiment using ep's amazing village (which should really be sold for $30 or so... truly... bt it is FREE, absolutely FREE!) with my shader experiment, mentioned above, and actors from Left to Right are:
Genesis, lounging against the building, appearing as a Basic Male
Victoria 2, as an adventuress, walking toward the camera, but looking to our right
Michael 4 as the Mighty Dartanbeck, riding a Millennium Horse
Victoria 4 as the Lovely and Heroic, Mystical Rosie, riding a Millennium Horse
Loretta Lores, as a villager, walking away from us

and let's not forget the Bonus feature included with every Fantasy Village Set: The Carrara "C" Block, which I've displayed proudly within the stone fencing :)
