Footwear
I'm continually flabbergasted how some shoe products, particularly sneakers, are incompatible with SOCKS. It wouldn't be as much of a problem if the shoes and/or the socks had BASIC adjustment morphs for the foot area that take this into consideration. Is there some kind of added difficulty I'm unaware of in making a pair of shoes that fit over socks or socks that fit under shoes? Sure, they come with FBMExpand All, but I would hardly consider that a helpful "adjustment morph".
Can anyone recommend sports sneakers for G8 F & M that have adjustment morphs specifically for characters wearing socks underneath?
Can someone help me with the transfer utilityIf you have used the transfer utility and it's fit nicely in the default position, what happens then if you apply another pose?
Hylas' FreebiesI'm deeply appreciative of everyone who makes freebies and I've decided to start uploading some of my own.
Now, I can't model. I'd like to learn eventually, but it might be months or even years until I get there (my life is very busy).
But I do make shader presets, morph presets, textures, HDRI's, poses, and such. I make them for myself but I might as well upload them, if I have all the required rights.
Please enjoy. Constructive feedback is very welcome, I'm absolutely no expert and I'd like to learn!
Morph ProblemHi to everyone, I'm new to DazStudio and I have a morph to load to a generic genesis 8 but I don't know how to do it, can somebody help me?
3D Comic Book Tips And PicturesI'm prepping some materials for my class, so I decided to dust off some OLD figures to show that my render process can actually make good use of legacy content. So, here he is after a long absence, The P4 "Dork," aka the Poser 4 Male. He's got a custom head morph, but other than that, this is mostly off the shelf, so to speak. Is he ready to star in his own comic? I don't think so? But is he ready to stand in the background and help fill up a scene? Yeah, I think that he'd be good at that.
What do you guys think?
How to figure out which Morphs to buy?All Daz figures have "base" Daz Originals head a body morphs packs. They're usually the first ones people buy when starting with a figure. Here are the ones for G8:
- https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-female-head-morphs
- https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-male-body-morphs
- https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-male-head-morphs
Additional morph sets by various artists bring you even more options and are definitely useful too.
You can combine morphs from various packs, or even various charactersfor the same figure. That's how you'd would a skinny kid, for example: you can use the growing up morphs with a "skinny" morph (or a combination of morphs) from some other set(s).
Can someone help me with the transfer utilitybasically a custom g8m made with morphs and Zbrush modeling.
I made a fibermesh beard on that model. basically an obj file containing the beard and when loaded on that custom character when he is in zero pose it loads into the correct spot on the face.
i want it to stay on the face and react to expressions. just like any other beard that you can buy on the store...
even if it was fitted to the default g8m I won't know how to fix it correctly. is there any place i could find more info about that? cant find it anywhere
A lot of weird stuff can happen with transfer utility depending on what you did or didn't do. If you added the beard to a 'modelled version', to use Richard's words did you do anything esle afterwards? Daz will assume you've made the item for the base figure unless you have done something I don't know about. So, tell us what you did and someone might be able to point you in the right direction.
How to figure out which Morphs to buy?Hello, I have decided to pick up Daz3D for research purposes. I need to get some morphs: aging, body size, non-adults.
I decided to work with genesis 8 since I want a high-quality model that resembles humans as much as possible.
For the aging morph, I'm considering: https://www.daz3d.com/aging-morphs-bundle-for-genesis-8-female-s-and-male-s
There doesn't seem to be any alternative options. So this seems rather straightforward. For the body size morph, there are several options in the shop (eg. Body Diversity: https://www.daz3d.com/body-diversity-morphs-for-genesis-8-females; Shape Shift: https://www.daz3d.com/shape-shift-for-genesis-8-female-s) Are there any resources out there that will aid in my decision-making process? Or is there a famous one that I should just buy because it's undoubtedly the best?
Lastly, for non-adults, there seems to be the option of this (Growing Up: https://www.daz3d.com/growing-up-bundle-for-genesis-8-female-s-and-male-s). Alatnerively, there also seems to be independent models sold separately. If I buy Growing Up, for instance, how do I know if I can adjust the kid to become chubby or give really skinny waist, etc?)
Thank you.
G8F face is meltingP.S. I was wrong about the distortion not coming through in the renders. It's still there. Can't figure this out. Crushed, since it seems entirely unpredictable and I just lost another 4 hours of work after I thought I'd figured out the problem. I'd go back and re-create it all again, but there's no guarantee it won't do the same thing again.
a) Select the Head in viewport or scene tab.
b) In the Scene Tab, right click, select all children
c) DS Menu - Edit - Figure - Restore - Restore Selected Items (can also to the same thing by typing Control-E in DS with the Head & it's children selected)
d) Reapply any morphs, materials, & poses to get same scene sans bug back.
e) Does it work? Yes. Render. No. Delete the character. Save the scene. Exit DAZ. Start DAZ. Open the Scene. Add back in the character.
I hope you weren't animating because such bugs essentially ruin your animation timeline.
f) Also, since you're using AFE dial the 2 AFE morph dials under Head to 0%
Face Distorting on One FigureHard to say, but my guess would be that you are doubling up on the morphs - that tends to be the result of forgetting to set the morph to start at 0%. As a result, when you move the slider, it starts at 100 % and goes up from there. But I'm only guessing - the screen capture doesn't show a uniform distortion, so it might be something else at play.
Thanks. I though I'd figured it out by deleting a couple of Auto Shape Enhancer products and starting from scratch. Did 4 hours of work and thought I was good. But no. Here I am again. This time it happened after I ran a dForce simulation, but that wasn't something I'd done any of the other times. I can't for the life of me figure out the pattern. I'd just stop using Daz altogether if it wasn't for the year-plus of work (and thousands of dollars on products) I've invested.
Tempted to do a clean install of the whole program, but I'm not even sure that will fix it at this point.
I set it in the other thread but select the head, select all children (of the head), control-E (that will restore all head & head child shapes & poses). if not do the Zero all head & head child shapes & poses instead. Then reapply head shapes & poses to get back where you were.
You need to manually update Auto Face Enhancer because it has bug fixes but the distribution of those bug fixes in a product update isn't being properly handled in DIM. There is a thread in the forums for Commercial produts with a thread for Auto Face Enhancer & I outline what I had to do to manually update Auto Face Enhancer (for Genesis 8 Female). The AFE for G8M works.
Don't forget, after applying an AFE attachment to your G8F, to right click & copy the G8F surface, then select the AFE geoshell attachment, right click, and paste the copied G8F surfaces to the AFE attachment geoshell.
Who is this character?Possibly an AliveSheCried morph of one of the bases. No idea which one, since it may use a different texture.
FaceGen vs Face Transfer vs Headshop 12. Pros & Cons?"One thing that both Headshop and Face Transfer do is they do not use the eye texture of the photo you use at all. If you look that is probably just the base genesis 8 eye texture tinted brown. I am not sure if Face Transfer tinted it brown itself, or what. Facegen actually makes an eye texture, but it is terrible and I very rarely ever use it. So I know why the other two apps would avoid it. Its just impossible to do because you rarely get a photo where the full iris is visible. So for my pics I just tinted the eyes brown. I later made an eye texture using the facegen eye as sort of a guide for the color."
Outrider, it is partially true; HeadShop DOES use eyetexture on Gen 2, but not on Gen 3 or Gen 8. The reason is that those two figures are built with independent eye maps. And yes, even FaceTransfer is substituting eye textures for real textures.

FaceGen vs Face Transfer vs Headshop 12. Pros & Cons?@outrider42 wow, Facegen did really good! Dos it work only with one photo or can you add more for better accuracy?
Also, can you post photos from 45 and side? I am curious how good the model looks from those angles.
I believe the most recent update allows you to morph two different pictures together. However, I never thought to use that feature on two different pictures of the same person.
In Facegen, you can add 1-2 profile pics as an additional reference, but if the lighting or makeup is significantly different, it can mess with the textures. There is an option telling FG to *not* extrapolate from some aspect of the profile pics, but I can't remember whether it is "skip the topography, just use for texture" or "skip the texture, just use for topography."
I personally don't feel like profile extrapolation is FG's strongest element. You have the option to customize the face further with a bunch of dials*, and mostly I just use a full face pic for initial extrapolation and go to customize the face some more using whatever profile or 3/4 shots I have as a reference.
*if you've played a Bethesda sandbox RPG newer than Morrowind, FaceGen's dials would be familiar to you, because the face customization tools in those games are based on FG, and there were people who had figured out how to get *.fg files into the PC versions of the games.
The option you remember is with profile pick you can choose to use them for the geometry but ignore them for the generated texture (and implicitly the lighting and makeup and other details on the profile pictures on the generated texture).
You also have the option to completely drop the generated texture and generate a generic texture that you can control the (amount and darkness of the appearance of) melanin in.
Missing Genesis 8 Female Body MorphsI'm not sure if this would be an issue that affects the morph loading or not, but I will send in a query.
Missing Genesis 8 Female Body MorphsRight, sorry.
Apparently it wasnt installed in DAZ studio itself for some unclear reason, so i did that through the smart content. The other problem was me being a total noob and clueless as to where I would find those body morph dials, which turned out to be just there in parameters and or shaping (like face morph and expressions which do work for me).
During my searches I came across questoins and solutions about metadata, so I figured I'll give it shot, so I looked for it, and it seems that that might be the problem. Because as u can see in the pics attached. I've checked a lot of my content library metadata (as in "edit metadata"), and body morph seems to be the only one that has no files. Obviously I tried to update and find the files manually when updating did nothing, but that did not help either.
Thanks for responding to my call for help!

How can I split Dforce Peasant Dress into two Figures: Bodice & Skirt?Yeah, following up on Richard's suggestion, you can go to Geometry Editor, Select the asset, right click on it and choose the marquee selection tool, then drag mostly up to the point where you want to hide/delete say the skirt, and then right click again and choose hide selected polygons. Then right click again, choose drag selection to fine tune select the rest of the polygons using the same method. If you 'goof' you can choose 'show all polygons' and start over.
Once you are satisfied with your hiding efforts, right click again, and then choose 'delete hidden polygons'. That will remove said polygons from said model. At that point you can save as a prop asset if you want, or just save it as a scene .duf file, or maybe as a scene subset, to keep your work.
Another option might be to import into Hexagon, then choose the material area that contains the skirt, if it's broken down into a separate area, with the 'faces' option selected and then just delete the polygons there. Then re-import it into daz. Sometimes, Daz will ask you if you want to make a morph or a prop. I usually just go with prop, but morph might work too, I don't really know. If you can use the 'morph' option to modify the existing item and if said morph deletes the missing polygons, that would be pretty cool as then you'd keep the other shaping adjustment morphs for your item, but I'm guessing it's not that easy. Others can comment on this idea...
If you re-import from Hexagon as a prop, at that point you need to do a bunch of stuff to get it to work as a clothing item again, and you probably will lose the shaping/adjustment morphs in the process, so I'd imagine that's not the preferred option. There might be an easy way to 'retain' those morphs, others in the know can comment as appropriate.

How can I split Dforce Peasant Dress into two Figures: Bodice & Skirt? You can select the unwanted areas with the Geometry Editor tool, then right-click>Geometry Editing>Deleted Selected (as I recall the names). I would use File>Save As>Support Assets>Figure/Prop Asset to save the modified version, as things like morph following can be odd with embedded assets (and also if it's the same asset you can't also load the full outfit into the scene without conflicts).
