  • Is it possible that my Genesis 8 figures aren't being transferred through the bridge because...
The Daz genesis figures are highly dependant on Massive amounts of Data being streamed in near realtime from your Massive Data folder, for all of their Corrective and HD morphs to function in the Daz studio viewport.
The bridge has to export as much of the Data as possible which will technically emulate the Look of DAZ JCM's and HD morphs, in the other program, as they are accompanied by several gigs of Morph data that used to reside unobtrusively in your local Data folder.
There are threads that show how to strip out most of that data after import.

  • I guess it must be very difficult to make these distinctive female characters

Not really and really could we see something closer to real body shapes or at least less borderline anorexia in characters?

Could not agree with this more. There's a reason every custom character is always shown with hair, 90% of them look scarier than a Josh Crockett creation without it. I haven't used a character preset as-is since the P4 Yamato days, and I don't know what the heck it is with almost every character in the store somehow being both toned and yet in desperate need of a hamburger, with many having eyes spread so far apart that you have to use an additional morph dial to get them back into place.

To each his or her own of course and variety is always good - I just think we need a little more of it. That's what morph dials are for though.

These kinds of comments drive me crazy. Where I live, people ARE slim and in shape because we eat healthy, organic fruits, vegetables, grains, many are vegan here, (I’m vegetarian and have no interest in eating a hamburger!) and people work out. Daz characters look just like the people in my neighborhood and everyone I know.

NO, they do not. I have no idea where you live and do not care but I've never seen any place where even a notable plurality of women were size 0 much less what ever the 2 super thin women in the OP would be, some kids sizes I'd guess?

Wait read rest of thread, West LA? I lived in West LA. Did it change that much since the late 90's? Inglewood was majority Hispanic back then and I strongly doubt there are a lot of size 0's in that demographic.

West Hollywood, not West LA. But West LA is where UCLA is and there are a LOT of attractive students so there’s that. West LA is also where the Hefner mansion was. LOTS of attractive people in West LA, but It’s not near Inglewood. I’m sorry, I have not been to Inglewood. I said my neighborhood. There are lots of actual celebrities around here too.

Hmmmm. I know it's been 25 years, expansion of space/time and all of that but West Hollywood was 10 miles from Inglewood. I went back and forth all the time. But still the plurality of women there are not size 0 and below. And that is still not healthy no matter what you think.

But it is telling that you have been to UCLA, roughly the same distance away but not to Inglewood. How about Koreatown? That's even closer. Surely you are not going to claim every woman there is some size 0 k-pop girl? You have been there right? If you're unclear it's the other side of Hollywood.

To be honest I tend to stay in my neighborhood. I never had a reason to go to Inglewood and I'm not sure exactly where it even is. Since I've been cooped up due to Covid, I've been reminiscing about fun times and going through photos. Here are some photos from parties I go to if you don't believe me about how people here do look like Daz models. (Some of these are Halloween)

Even if your anecdotes didn't actually prove my point there is that little adage that anecdotes aren't evidence.

I'm not even sure what exactly you're trying to say. The truth is that there are people who look like Daz models all over the world. Many come to LA to try to become actors or models. They move to my neighborhood because, well, there's a lot to do here and it's where the Industry hangs out and parties. For every gorgeous model you see on the cover of a magazine, there are thousands who wanted to do that, came to LA, failed, and now are doing something else with their lives. This is a city of failed actors and models. And wannabe actors and models. And actual actors and models.

I'm saying that your own pics show that you are wrong.

In reality LA is a city of tradesmen, techs, etc. etc.

For every person in front of the camera, and every person who wants to be in front of the camera, who has the stereotypical body type there are dozens of others in LA in and outside the entertainment industry. I suggest you watch the end credits of a movie some time, all the end credits. You might have a couple of dozen actors in a movie. That same movie could have hundreds of on set tradesmen, camera operators, grips, sound guys directors and so on. Plus dozens more people like I was who never set foot on set.

  • Any way to save a morph with a new name?

What do you actually want to do?

Do you want to change the name of the existing morph or do you want to make a copy of the existing morph?

    If you just want to change the name (dial name=label) of an existing morph;
    1. Load your base figure or the developer version.
    2. Select "Show Hidden" in the Parameters-Tab, drop down menu (right-click)
    3. Zero the figure (Found in Parameters-Tab, drop down menu)
    4. Change the name of the morph/morphs (dial name=label)
    5. Memorize the figure (Found in Parameters-Tab, drop down menu)
    6. File->Save As->Support Asset->Save Modified Assets

Changing the actual name that can be found in properties, is not a good idea, since that is called by other morphs.

The operative phrase being "actors and models". Maybe kenshaw is saying that Hollywood isn't exactly a representative slice of average America (or any other place) because of the overriding, uh, industry of the area. Go outside of your very isolated and specialized area and you start to see a more varied population ;). Personally, I'd rather roll my own characters but then I'm not everybody ;).

  • GENERAL FREEBIE REQUESTS part 3

I'm looking for a morph for Genesis 3/8 Male and Female to remove the nostril holes so I can get a manga/anime look for a character. Anyone know where I can find this? If it's only available in a paid package, I'm fine with that. I do have Sakura 8 and that has an option remove nostrils but it doesn't work on plain Genesis 8, so that's out. Ideas?

Thought I had one out for G8F but it may be one I pulled for lack of interest.

    edited to update.

    Another how-to question:

How do I find the adjustment dials that I use in DAZ Studio after I transfer the scene to Blender (again, I use the diffeo add-on). Here are some examples of what I mean.

Yeah, since this thread has really gone off a cliff, let me just say again; buy morph sets and you can make whatever you want. At least get all the official DAZ sets and everything you can afford from Zev0.   :)

My 2 cents, a character is an art of making a distinctive appearance. Morphing is a big part. Another equal big part is IMAGINATION. That alone includes everything from shaping to texturing. I guess this is what most PAs and people miss. This is why most of PAs fail. I want to tell PAs to ASK YOURSELF IF YOUR PROMO PAGE CAN CAPTURE YOUR OWN ATTENTION? Some PAs around here are very talented but lack of imagination. Some PAs around here just... well, let it finish and release another wait-for-1.99. Ashame. Those who say the 3 characters I mention in this thread are just another simple variation, hmmm, I smile for you. Don't ask what I'm thinking.

Most of my writing takes place in an apocalyptic future, particularly the UK and Europe where there is quite a diversity of people and cyber/bio physical implants along with genetic/bio-sculpting are the norm the streets.(I even use some more "stylised" characters and morphs particularly for the latter).

West Hollywood is a lot like that.

    ..that's what I have done.

I've been dial spinning characters for years now, all the way back to the Gen4 days. I tend to value morph, shaping, and skin resources far more than a huge stable of characters, partly so because I am on a tight budget. . Yes it takes more time and patience but is worth it, I just recently managed to get a few of my major characters to the look the way I wanted them following a drive crash (18months ago) that took everything with it (still have many to go yet).

Most of my writing takes place in an apocalyptic future, particularly the UK and Europe where there is quite a diversity of people and cyber/bio physical implants along with genetic/bio-sculpting are the norm the streets.(I even use some more "stylised" characters and morphs particularly for the latter).

    >>Daz characters look just like the people in my neighborhood and everyone I know.<<

I don't have a problem with that, and it's good to hear that there are still some healthy people out there. I have a problem with virtually every character looking like that.

But like I said, that is the purpose of morph dials. I just don't understand why everyone apparently saw Blackhearted's "Girl Next Door", thought that really was what a "girl next door" looked like, and proceeded to basically model every single female character for the next 10 years after her.  ;)

yes it certainly contradicts the people of Walmart image we see in Australia of America

    in a good way

And we don’t have any Wallmarts anywhere near us either. Lots of Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s though! (I live in West Hollywood/LA) The truth is most people came here to be actors or models, were not successful and now have regular jobs. I went to an urgent care place once that looked like a set of a soap opera. So clean, modern, trendy like a set designer created it, the doctor was a super hot hunk and the staff all looked like cover models. Most of the people in my building are either wannabe actor models or look like they could be. These people really do exist!

But You DO know that West Hollywood is not really the USofA, right? Because so many people working ordinary jobs now still want to be actors and therefor watch their looks... and are veggies, because all the great stars are veggies too and... and... and...

Sorry, but I guess You're the "special snowflake"... and your experience with "Daz characters look just like the people in my neighborhood and everyone I know." is the exception, not the rule wink

I did a quick look and my home state, California, ranks in the top four fittest states in the United States.  Perhaps, because I live near a college campus, I am just as likely to see someone who looks like Dain or CJ as I am to see someone like George....  High quality food is easy to get here, most people I know have at least a passing interest in staying fit, and it is warm enough in Northern California that people go outside every once in a while.  I do notice that people are taller than I remember, my niece (she is an athlete) is 5'11" and my nephew is 6'3" at age 15 (he is expected to top out at 6'5" or 6'6").

...having grown up and lived in Wisconsin (several locations), as well as New Orleans, Kansas City, Seattle & Olympia WA, and now Portland OR, I've seen quite an array of different health & fitness levels as well as body shapes.  Here in Portland, in spite of the emphasis on organic and vegetarian/vegan diet, and wholistic living, I see few who I could say would be a character I'd see in the Daz store.

  • MEC4D's celebration ( with freebies ) [commercial]

What I work on a side are PBR shaders , that can transfer simple geometry into more dimensional effect, and maps can be used outside DS as well so not limited to one program , you can use maps in 3D painting software and make great sets without any mesh export , other way I would create just the mesh , but sadly it can't be wrapped on a wall of your set it would be static prop and huge

below some bad example of the shader , it is in early stadium and a lot stuff that need to be adjusted , it render in seconds , I want to upgrade future shaders to next level for beautiful effects in a seconds, so you can add different layers just by clicking , add some woods, add some stones, water and other elements to the ground layers for your own unique look , modern maps powering everything today

and if the maps are dimensional you see less tiling as object change from far to close and angles

the future 3D scans will be around 6x6 ft before they start to tile , the test is just 1x1 ft , all info and maps will be based on 3D scan ( without the actual mesh in the end )

I don't want to spoil my idea right now, but when I am ready , you will get what I mean in less complicated explanations , it will be as easy as click of the button for the end user .

in short you have for example 4 shaders that you will mix and get total new and unique look as nobody else , you will have option to repose the elements where you want them , then you can save it as scene assets for next usage .

mmm HD ground is an interesting idea all the same

geometry uses less resources in iray apparently than textures, was a comparison between HD morphs and normal maps in one thread that showed this

so some seamless HD ground planes that can be instanced could be a great product and people can always export the subdivided mesh if they wished to render it elsewhere too

  • Celebrity Look-a-Likes for 3D figures Part 2

G3 or G8.  I don't have add ons to convert earlier characters to G3 or G8.

I have GenX, I've never had much success with it converting V4 but if you think that morph is what you want I can give converting it to G3 a go...
    Regards
    Steve.

Unless the morph says so it can be given to others, or is the other person's own creation, then doing the conversion would not be permitted under the license.

  • I guess it must be very difficult to make these distinctive female characters

  • Anyone Know Which Character/Figure This Is

She's a custom character Mattymanx made for himself. She's not for sale.

Too bad.  He should be selling the character.  Putting stuff in promo images that people can't buy only frustrates shoppers.

It's very possible he used parts from other commercial characters which would be a legit reason why they can't sell it. Makes perfect sense to want your promos to stand out and what better way than having a unique character in them, doesn't frustrate me at all. In all my years being here i have only twice wanted to get a character I saw in a promo. I usually just create my own and this plugin is perfect for that https://www.daz3d.com/simtenero-randomizer

or morphs transferred from other figures. given that they also have a similar character in the gen 3 and 2 eras its very possible that it might have commercial character morphs from other generations at which point thres not just a laundry list of reqirements completely unsharabe.

My favorite gen 3 character to use was a manual transfer of a gen 2 character that was 60% ninive but also then included some transfered david 5. absolutely imposible to share in any form you can't even really share a "recipe"

Yeah, since this thread has really gone off a cliff, let me just say again; buy morph sets and you can make whatever you want. At least get all the official DAZ sets and everything you can afford from Zev0.   :)
