  • M4/H4/F4-G3M Bi-directional Pose Transfer

My pleasure. Have to confess that these scripts all originated in an accident. I was creating a few poses for G8F, using some V3 poses as a reference. I had finished one and was intending to go on to the next when I accidentally applied the V3 pose to G8F, and it all went a bit wrong:

But.. it made me realise that the pose could be used as there were areas where the pose looked almost right (left hand for one), and maybe a script could correct some of the errors. Then, after I tried correcting the pose, I realized information was lost because V3 and G8F have different bones and I wondered if the pose transfer route was a way to avoid that loss. Fortunately for my minimal knowledge, it's not very difficult to do and is a problem that may be solved using the brute ignorance and force method.

I do hope that the scripts will be useful.

    Regards,

    Richard

  • Daz Studio 4.14 Pro, General Release!

So, I read something about this in another post that I found via a Google search.

Is it common that, when we File > Save as > Character Preset borks the Genesis 8 Female preset?

The solution offered to the author of the post was to find the culprit morph dial, go to its settings and make sure that its Default value is 0%

My own character preset has a Lot of morph dials set, and every one of them stuck to Genesis 8 Female, so I had to go through the base file and find every change I've made to create my own preset character. It was horrible.

Before that 'fix' I just mentionned, I have never before written over my Genesis 8 Female file - ever! Just made some custom character presets in the Characters folder.

So saving a preset changes the default values of the underlying morph assets, such that every character preset - including the base - loads with the morphs set?

Materials will not usually transfer between applications, but if you can export the maps from Character Creator you could apply them through the Surfaces pane in DS.

    Thank You.

  • Can somebody help figure out where to get or how to make this character?

The texture looks indeed like XF-Diana.

The face morph reminds me of:

    https://www.daz3d.com/xf-jane-for-genesis-8-females

Could be a modified version (the lips shape is different to both Diana and Jane).

  • Fawne aged to an older teen or young adult. How?

    Hello -

In the promos for the Fawne character,

    https://www.daz3d.com/fawne-bundle-for-genesis-8-females

one of the images has her aged to an older teen or young adult, yet there appears to be no indication of such a morph in the character, clothing, or product bundle. To a potential purchaser, this is confusing, if not misleading. does anyone have an idea as to how the aging was accomplished tp yield the result in the promo image?

    Thank you!

  • Does 4.12.1.16 allow multiple instances of Studio?

I'm using 4.14 ... and an old 4.12 ...  so I can open another one or two or three at the same time
    ---
and it the past I have often  rendered in one and worked in another.
    ---
why a second  or third instance.. so when I want to get something from an older scene file .. I can get it without closing waiting restarting opening new file, saving needed asset as subset and then closing waiting opening scene I needed the asset for than adding the asset.
takes a long time to type that in it's way quicker than closing daz.
    ---
Can you believe I actually use photoshop and open up 3 or 4 renders so I can copy and stack them in one window. Think I've been able to do that sicne PS 1 in 1987

I agree. For example, I have a render running - this is the first version of the program. At this time, I want to prepare the next scene – this is the second version of the program. And I need to transfer some detail from another scene – this is the third version of the program. Previously, I worked quietly - I didn't even think about such things. But now I had to update due to RTX 30xx support, and it turned out that I was working "incorrectly"…
No, seriously. A solution with multiple shortcuts or multiple versions of programs looks as inadequate as possible. And judging by the fact that the problem is more than a year old, we will not see a normal solution. At a minimum, I will constantly leave requests for support. Although, as I said, developers are not ready to admit their mistakes.

  • DAZ to Maya Bridge exporting selected Morphs?
I tried favoriting the morphs once and it crashed upon import in Maya. Not sure where it went wrong, I have to test it again. Meanwhile since I only needed one morph I was able to bring it over manually as a blendshape via obj export ... which isn't the best way to bring over morphs if you need a lot of them.

  • How to use male (G3M ?) morph on female (G3F?)?

One can also use the transfer utility

I'm not sure I remember all the steps for a 100% perfect transfer, but.

    • Load up G3F and M
    • Select the character you're transferring from, In this example, lets say G3M, Favorite the morphs you want transferred in the parameters panel and dial in either the G3F clone or if you have the Cross Figure Resource kit The "Transfer to" morph from that (you will need to turn on show hidden in the parameters panel to find them) Dial out any othe morphs that may be applied, you want just the clone morph
    • go to edit>object>transfer utility
    • For source select the figure with the morphs you want transferred, in this instance G3M, set item shape to "Current" (this way the clone you dialed in will be taken into account)
    • For target figure set the figure you want the morphs transferred to, in this instance G3F leave the item shape alone.
    • click show options, there's a lot of stuff there, but we won't be using most of it.
    • have checked only:
      • "Smart left/right filtering"
      • "closest vertex first" (this one is new to the latest beta, but will make the areas around the eyes transfer a bit better, but isn'r 100% necessary if you don't want to use the beta)
      • "Morph targets"
        • Click morph targets to see the extended options, set the source to "favorites" and unclick "from projection template"
    •  everything else should be unclicked, we dont want weight maps or to fit one figure to another.

    • Hit accept, your morphs should transfer pretty nicely!
    • You will need to save your morphs as anyother morph under save as > support asset > morph asset

one note transferring morphs does not do things like transferring changes to rigging, so if you have a moprh that drastically alters the proportions of the figure (like changes to height,) things will look weird when you pose the figure, but that is beyond the scope of this tutorial

This works wonderfully for Genesis 8 Figures. Thank you.

  • DAZ vs BLENDER... Help me understand

Daz give you pre-built assets so you don't have to build your own in blender/AutoDesk/Maya, build a character from scratch is a very very complicated thing in any 3D modeling/sculpting tool, 1st detailed human model, then realistic texture & shader, and most complex of them all, a fully functional skeleton and muscle/skin bending system, to morph them is even more headache,

Daz’s large character library & morphing tool solved this problem , that’s why so many artists don’t model anything anymore but just to purchased a morphed character into blender and poish them farther to do their creation.

also given all the cyberpunk I have to mention these free hdris they're not super high res, but thats what dof is for and theyre very neon

@zombietaggerung Ill render up the back of the outfit you requested too

So has anybody actually picked up the character?  Any thoughts on him?

I didn't pick him up, yet, but I was looking to see if anybody did and what their experiences were.

I did and posted a bit of a review right up above you

    In terms of technical elements

also having purchased niko, he has less of the issues that Underbelly started out with in regards to limited options - hes actually very modular - one eye color buuuut the base, scars and ritual scars are all seperated out so for the torso, for instance, there are 4 sets of color and normal maps: base, ritual scars, scars, and scars and ritual scars. the base morph is HD with aditional seperated hd scar and ritual scar morphs. also the head and body morphs are seperate

other thoughts: by default he's a bit matte  but adding some extra spec isn't hard - and normally I tweak way more. The palm transition looks a bit sharp - buut I am not enough of an expert to claim whether its realistic or not

All in all I quite like him

also long purple coat? yellow googles? vaguely futuristic? instant static shock vibes hitting me right in the nostalgia

Thanks!  It's good feedback, I appreciate it!

  • CONTACTING ITEM ARTIST/S

Daz handles customer support for PA, so there's no direct way to contact them.

If they're active in the forums you can try a private message, otherwise you can try opening a support ticket and asking support to transfer them your message.

Looks very nice, and so fast rendering too.

Would be ever better if G8F characters didn't take SOOOOOOOOOOOO long to load... By the way, if any trick to reduce loading time exists anywhere else on this forum, i would love to see it.

    SSD.

PCIex4 NVMe SSD, 2TB, it's running x2 because I made the mistake of plugging a USB card into a slot it shares bandwidth with but my G8F load is still slow.  I checked a load of a scene with a single G8F after a reboot (so no populated disk cache).  The load was CPU limited all the time; it was running a single core flat out, but the disk utilization did not go above about 3% and was typically 0.1MB/s.

It is reported that the problem is the loading of character morphs when you own a lot of them, and the character "properties" entry on the animation time line does, indeed, show a large number of morphs.  Indeed creating a key-frame for just the properties in that node takes forever.  This is not new for 4.14.

The apparent fix, which I have not tried yet, is to de-install all the G8F characters you have then just re-install the ones you actually use; some of the morph sets like the "genesis 8 female body morphs" are widely used but bespoke characters that do not depend on them have morphs which are certainly only necessary if used.

  • Updating the DSON Importer for Poser 12: A Question for the Daz Developers

Poser 12, just recently released from Bondware, has upgraded from Python 2 to Python 3.  This breaks many old add-on scripts, including the DSON Importer.  As someone who relies on the Importer to use Genesis 8 in Poser, this is a disappointment, and I doubt I'm the only one who feels that way.  It is possible to get a posable, morphable, and subdivided Genesis+ figure into Poser 12 using a work-around that I detail here, but without a functional "Transfer Active Morphs" script, fitting clothes to morphed characters becomes much less straightforward, and I doubt any preset poses will work either.

I have some programming background, and I've been researching ways to either convert or emulate Python 2 code in Python 3.  Although scripts seem fairly easy to convert, I suspect that the core of the incompatibility lies in the "dzdsonimporter" PYD file, which I believe is a compiled/interpreted module.  This means I would likely need access to the source code in order to make the requisite adjustments.

As far as I can tell, Daz has largely abandoned the DSON Importer and generally shown much less interest in Poser compatibility for several years.  It is only through the work of independent creators like Willdial on Renderosity that any of us have even been able to use Genesis 3 or 8 in Poser 11.  Given this, I can't imagine that Daz plans to profit much if at all from further DSON Importer sales.  With that in mind, I would like to ask developers if they might be willing to open up and/or license the source code somehow so that I and/or others may tinker with it and potentially expand the market for Genesis 8.
