More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)
I am stubborn. I refused to let Iray win.
Sketchy has almost no documentation to speak of, but I bludgeoned it into submission until I had something comperable to what I can do with a postworked PWToon render.
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)These are all brilliant examples of NPR/toon renders, really pristine! Great multipass work!
Here another exploration using pwtoon multipass and also Blender eevee multipass . All post done in Photoshop
!JS Stylized - pwToon Presets@juvesatriani thank you for providing such a nice shader set for pwToon. I had a play with a Genisis 3 figure created using Sf Anime Character Builder and your shaders applied to materials. The first image is the pure render, using my usual IBL Master lighting set up. The second is a quick rough postwork in Photoshop using the free Nik filters to tint the colours and to add a faded film grain effect. The background was quickly created using some of Ron's brushes.
I really need to learn how to use the shaders (and your light sets) properly and to combine them with some of the techniques you describe in some of the NPR threads.
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)I love PWToon, because it is fast and very versatile. Its a unicorn in that respect. And now it's only available to those of us who already own it. That's a shame.
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)I hope it isn't being phased out @vrba79
As far as I'm concerned, 3Delight gives me a way to render relatively quickly and with a lot less stress on my old iMac. I do render with Iray, because that is what I started with with Daz Studio, but not as much as with 3Delight. I'm at a low level in terms of 3Delight knowlege but I am putting some time in to trying to expand the little understanding I have. I picked up the 3Delight video tutorial in the sale and I'm going to work my way through the sections a little at a time

Tonight I've been reading some of the older forum threads and over the next few days I'm going to play with pwToon for the first time in a year or so
There are so many brilliant example of great images on these threads. They are real inspiration.
what happened to pwtoon?I like VSS, its not as robust as PWtoon, but it has a nice look. Renders take much longer though.
what happened to pwtoon?Guys, help me out here.
I've recently - as in, just last week or so - put two 3DL toon shaders on my wishlist that looked kind of promising. One is Manga Style Shaders by TheNathanParable. The other one, I forgot its name... it wasn't pwtoon, it was something else. Now it appears that it's not available anymore; or perhaps it was just kicked off my wishlist and I can't find it anymore?
Does anyone know what I'm talking about? A 3DL toon shader product other than pwtoon or Manga Style Shaders. What was its name?
ETA: Nevermind, it's Visual Style Shaders and it's still available. Don't know why it got kicked off my wishlist.

@vrba79 I only upgraded to the latest version of Daz Studio for the Mac after I tested that pwToon worked in the beta version. I had been on 4.10 for quite some time. I haven't used done a scene using pwToon for quite some time, I need to give it some thought.
I'm shopping around for new methods, just in case I'm right about 3Delight options getting the old heave-ho(The fact that all basic tutorials on the main website only show Iray lighting/rendering is a huge hint we're heading that way!). The problem is that the toon options for Iray are either needlessly complicated(Oso Toon Shader) or woefully underpowered and poorly documented(Sketchy).
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)@juvesatriani those are amazing. I really must do some research and learn how to do pwtoon multipass. Love what you have done with those sets.
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)@Headwax amazing works

what happened to pwtoon? It's been several versions of Studio since it was last sold, but yes I still hope that will be true for many more versions to come. When it came out I greatly preferred it to what Poser had at the time, I imagine that's still the case. Also doesn't Studio still ship with a toon render mode and toon shaders? And I greatly prefer pwToon's look and controls.More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)@vrba79 I only upgraded to the latest version of Daz Studio for the Mac after I tested that pwToon worked in the beta version. More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)With Daz3D no longer selling PwToon, I'm concerned they will stop updating support for it as Daz|Studio evolves. That's my main goto for NPR.
what happened to pwtoon? They phased out PWtoon?

Cartoon-y test for a crowd scene
Love your style !!
@vrba79 , I`m just doing experiment with Sakura eyes , and since they also have 3delight version and I believe you work in Anime Styles, I think they will suit your need . Here example straight render from DAZ and pwToon plus Sakura eyes ( no Postwork)
More Non-photorealistic Renders (NPR III)That said, its crap on darker skinned characters. The skin tone just comes out too flat looking, so I'm probably just gonna stick with my Pwtoon/Postwork method until I can sort something out in Iray.
When I can get something that looks like this in Iray, I'll make the switch for good, but until then, Iray is just an experiment for me.

Testing new pwToon preset and check how easy to get look i wanted in Photoshop
looking super! almost makes me want to use Studio :)
What will happen if I decide to downgrade to 4.12 ?You'll go back to a much older version of Iray.
And you'll see no difference on Iray speed. If you don't use Filament, G8.1 or PBR materials, and don't do complex animations then you would be good. But you'll want to switch up to the latest DS when they integrate Iray 2021.0.1 or later. Which is probably going to be DS 5.0. That said I know you use PWtoon and so you may still need an older DS installed to be able to work with that.

Well to make a preset, you get the shader set up how you want it to be, have the surface selected then you go to File-Save-> Material Preset, then tick surfaces you want saved. Though I tend to go with saving it as a Shader preset, so its not dependant on a specific figure. And on that note, here's the recipe for how I use PWToon to do skin.
You can swap out the shader color for black if you want a more comic noir effect.
For postwork, I reccomend gaussian blur of two, then fade that to Darken 100, and then adjust vibrance to +100. Really gives a richer look!
Shader preset will require to hold CTRL to keep textures.
This is true, but the point is making the preset itself is a simple matter.
