  • Dartanbeck's Journey - CG Filmmaking

Making Rosie 5.5 was a necessary endeavor - this time building her up from scratch in Daz Studio in order to be able to utilize all of Studio's various tools and helpful functions.

Bringing a Daz Studio version of Rosie into Carrara is as simple as loading her in from the library. Getting her from Carrara into Daz Studio requires a rebuild by hand. So you can see why this had to be done, right?

Carrara saves figures differently than Daz Studio. All morphs that the figure can access - even if not used, get stored into the Carrara file. Daz Studio's modern genius simply uses a Database to track when a morph is needed, otherwise it doesn't use any overhead.

That said, when it came time to bring this new Rosie 5.5 into Carrara for optimization, I used my tried and true method of Carrara Genesis Morph Reduction. Not only does this lower the overhead of the figure, it makes sure that someone as sweet as Rosie doesn't have dials for Monstrosities, Trolls, Orcs, Guys!!! LOL

It's nice to be able to refine the number of morph dials the figure has. In truth, I did this when I did the final build in Daz Studio as well, just to minimize what I even have available to use for morphs, which makes things a Lot quicker.

Here's an article that I wrote on the procedure: Genesis Morph Reduction

If you like that sort of thing, I have a plethora of other helpful hints and articles written to help us build our characters, animate them, get them talking, walking, rendered with volumetric fog... all kinds of stuff! Come on in and make yourself at home!

Frankly speaking from a customer view, and a lot of daz customers share my point of view.  i see absolutely no point to download the " official" daz to blender bridge, when diffeo is here.

I am an animator in blender, and thanks to diffeomorphic and BVH retarget both tools of mister thomas i can do absolutely everything in blender and i'm really extremely satisfied of those tools, and i don't think the official plugin can do something similar now or in the near future.

I have a similar point of view. I use Diffeo to move items to Blender in Linux. I'd run Studio natively in Linux if it could, but at the moment, I use it in macOS. I do hope to understand how to successfully copy animations to Blender soon.

    It's very easy,

    2 steps:

    1) download diffeo

    2) download BVH retarget

    both tools from thomas website.

import action ( the animation ) with diffeo then go to  BVH retarget, edit-) transfer FK to IK.

snap IK with MHX rig, and tadaa you have an animation from daz fully IK rigged, without BVH retarget its impossible to correctly pose an animation this tool is a must except if you want snap ik frame by frame ... ( for an animation with 1000 frames good luck with that! )

  • Question for Rarestone about model in RN Kids Outfits and also about aging morph products

    Hi,

I was wondering about the character in Rarestones RN Kids Outfits and Poses product.  Any estimate on a release date for the character? either from Rarestone directly or anyone that has heard news.

    https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-rn-kids-outfits-and-poses-for-genesis-8-females

My other question was about aging morph products.  If the RN Kids Outfit character ever gets released i wanted to also try making a version that is about 20 years old and also a mother-type character that is 40-50 years old.  Is Zev0's aging morph kit the best product to get for aging?

Now, I am debating, if I will be able to get the similar look, like j cade.

YOU probably could, but I tried my go-to hdr's (PRO-Studio, UltraHD Sunny Beaches), and I was disappointed with the results. I'll try the one j cade suggested now. His skin is better than I thought, by far, but he's still kind of plain compared to the last two years of Genesis 8. He's more in Lucas' league as a morph. Here's the best of the lot, done with Click-n-Render (I made the eyes and irises smaller):

  • [Solved] Install Manager - Recognizing files on hard drive

The Package Archive is the directory DIM downloads to; there are no useable Studio files in this directory, just .dsx and .zip files with names that start IM0. DIM reads files from this directory, unzips them, and writes the contents to the Studio content library directory (or directories).

Got it. So if I want to easily transfer DAZ3DIM it sounds like I need to make a new folder on my hard drive to download the package files. Every time I move to a different machine, just set the Package Archive to that folder.

Back when DIM came out my internet was dial-up and I was downloading to an external drive on my laptop at Starbucks, then bringing it home and installing on the main system. DIM just made the process a lot easier. Download to the external drive, go home, plug the drive into the main system, fire up DIM in off-line mode on that system, and do the installs.

It sounds that the hair and clothes are not fitted to the character, so when you add this morph, the character gets taller and with that everything that is not fitted or parented will not move with the characters body when it is changed.

They actually are fitted though. I use the transfer utility and when I select a body part in the scene tab (but not in the larger scene workspace - because little red circle) and then use the pose slider, the body and garment do actually pose. The hair is fitted and parented and poses as well except when I use that one particular morph in question.

  • Applying full body morphs partially?

With the weight-mapped figures the geoemtry and modifiers (such as morphs) belong to the figure, so no you can't selectively apply a morph. There are workarounds for non-HD morphs (Shape Splitter in the store, or export as OBJ and reload with a weight map from a dForm used to attenuate the effect - act as a mask, if you like) but they all involve creating a new morph.

  • G8 - Chest deformed when mode raises his/her arms.

cant recognize the deformations maybe better attach 2 images, default pose and posed

in parameter tab check the wheel right to the heart, parameter settings, of the slider that gives you the issue (collar bend maybe?)

and check what is connected (ERCs) you should only see collar related morphs and 1 pectoral, if i am not wrong

in any case if there is something about the nipple it should be an error,

also load the development base character  and check if there are active morphs with a default value non zeroed

in that case set the default value to zero in the same parameter settings window and overwrite that single morph asset

or you can reinstall all the g8 package, if there is an error for sure is not about the original files

  • Applying full body morphs partially?

Is it still possible to apply full body morphs, such as Behemoth, partially? 'In the olden days', one could go into a body part and manually dial even a full body morph back down to 0%, but it'd appear that in D|S 4, that capability is no longer there?

So if you are creating morphs, clothes, hair, geo grafts or any other add ons, use the Genesis 8 Female base, not Victoria 8.

If you create geografts, vicky morph will be transfered to the geograft. And if the result isn't good, you have to edit the morph to correct it. With such an asymmetric geometry you can say goobye to mirroring your sculting tool.

pardon me, now i see, about the nose tip i was thinking it was on Y axis on front view, thights zone also its clearly visible

no errors on my few g8 geografts for the moment

  • Black eye ?

It's better to have what you render around the origin when rendering in Iray. When your item is far from origin there can be render artifacts where you have surfaces close to each other, like iris and cornea in the eyes. From what I understood that's due to Iray using a fixed number of digits to represent position: when an item is far from origin it needs more digits for the "main" part of the position so it has fewer digits availables for decimals, so there can be rounding errors causing surfaces which are close to be located at the same place when rendered.

IIRC there's a morph available somewhere to move the cornea a bit farther away, which can help reducing that kind of problem.

See your PMs. I sent you a link to a DA one but I don't think it was ever sold at DAZ

Thanks Charlie, I do have that one but the face seems a bit off when it is loaded. I appreacite the PM letting me know about it. yes

I don't know why but I just have this vidid memory of there being a V4 or Gen 4 legacy morph set for G3 right after it came out, and remember it was a big deal but I ahven't seen it for a long time. Maybe I have lost my last marble and all I have left are rocks.  Thanks for everyone that has tried to help me with this

Our memories are notoriously unreliable. sad

Funny though, how important eye witness testanomy is in a court of law, whereas scientific proof ignores it completely becuase of said unreliability. wink

Back when I went through the Police Academy, one of the things my instructors always said that if you interview 10 people at a crime scene you will get 10 different stories and those 10 stories will become 20 under cross examination.

  • simple way to bring an G8 figure up to G8.1

    TheKD said:

If that works, then there is no need. Just load g8.1 base, use the shape and skin presets from the vendor folder, then save that as a new preset. I don't have 8.1 installed yet, and won't be doing it for a while probably, so can't test the process myself.

The “save a preset” is needed if they wanted to transfer a custom character, not a store-bought one.

I tried using Gen X a few times and it was a disaster, so I gave up on it and haven't tried it again. Also I have found that pretty much all of the conversion software available for figures always has some kind of error in it and doesn't transfer the greatest.
