  • Tips and Suggestions for Improving Character to Sell at DAZ
Thanks Quixotry, your comments have been very detailed and helpful, I appreciate your input. And I'm fine with critique, as I was in need of it. I will post more renders tomorrow, when I have time, with the skin fixed and the background added. I'm glad that most people like the morph, and that the lighting has improved. Now all that's left is tweaking the skin, and adding a specular light in the eye, which I didn't have, and presto! Just a question Quixotry, just to make sure, can I re-submit the same character, or do I need to use another one? Thanks again.

The set I am thinking of was a character morph not a conversion

It seems like you want the V4/M4 shape on a Genesis 3 figure. I could not find anything here or at Rendo. The only items I know of are UV map transfers, pose transfers, morph transfers, and clones. You could transfer V4 morph and dial in V4 shape.

I don't think Legacy Generation 4 Shapes were made for G3. Only G2:

  • MimicMolly's Renders & WIPs

Nevermind Friday, I managed to do a quick test of G8.1M. I chose a character I'm trying to make. His skin is like a mix of Changeling Chick's Foster and Nix 8? He's supposed to have the look of a fairy boy.

(I think this character was supposed to have the Growing Up "Teen" morph applied to him afterwards, to age him down further, because he's supposed to be the identical son of another character I made. In this render, this is like the "adult" version of the son, which can also be seen as the younger version of the dad.)

I still need to work on him, something feels "off" but IDK what. I know this shaping preset looks fine, but not really for me.

  • Morph scaling object down

You are probably using a preset in the importer with a different scale from Diffeomorphic - by the sound of it 1 unit = 1 cm when 1 unit = 1m is needed

That was exactly it, thank you. I was mislead by the unit choice in morph loader pro. I'm not sure if it was in the diffeomorphic documentation. Perhaps I missed it.
Regardless, using modo 1 unit = 1 meter worked.

  • Morph scaling object down

Let me start by saying that I have little to no clue of what I'm doing when it comes to this sort of thing.
I used Diffeomorphic Daz to Blender in order to create a morph for Casual Closet Cami Top, set to sub base 0 and am able to import it with morph loader pro. However doing so and setting the slider to 100% results in the top now being 1/100th scale (I think that's the correct amount). So obviously somehwere I'm doing something wrong.
Let me further state that this is a bit of a dirty morph since I didn't zero any of the existing morphs being used on the object. However in spite of this at 1/100th scale the morph looks the same as it does in blender.
In short, I need help importing this morph using Morph Loader Pro because somewhere my settings are wrong. Thank you.

For any creature maker PAs reading this, if somebody made a modernized variant of essentially the Biguana Riding Lizard, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

The seemingly easier expression features is of course tempting... On the other hand: I have so many Genesis 8.0 characters aquired, that it is just frustrating.

So, I will wait until one noble soul creates a converter smiley

There is a converter. G8.1 converts G8 herself. No need for extras.

    OK, I got 8.1, thanks!

So in the end, this could be a little misleading right?  G8.1 is a figure, and G8 is a figure.  G8.1 does not convert G8.  All my scenes with G8 are not now with G8.1...they did not auto-update.  The point is I can remake them the same way as I originally made them, and it should work ok.

Reason I ask, is they my Sakura stylized characters are not just a simple apply 4-5 morphs and a skin.  There are add-ons, textures and a LOT of morph sliders dialed in.  TBH, it would be nice for a converter.

Save a character preset, apply said character preset to G8.1, and voila, you now have G8.1 with your character’s morphs and textures.

  • Facemotion Live Stream to viewport coming

    chiefarchon said:

    hi there
Will this work with the new Genesis 8.1

I'm sure this new update of his will work out of the box, but for right now I've found that the current version that I got the update for in mid December, I believe, won't transfer the facial keys but will move the head, neck, chest, and abdomin. To get the facial mocap to work, I have to run the script a second time with the version prior (you'll know it's the previous version as it doesn't have the smoothing and abdomen options) and click the box to make it only the facial shapekeys, then it works. So it's just running it twice  which only takes an extra twenty seconds so it's not the end of the world for how incredibly amazing FaceMotion is. And if you're wondering why I don't just run it through the previous version, it's because the newest one has a smoothing and abdomen option which I want to be able to utilize.

But he's totally on top of everything, so I'm sure when this new version hits, it'll be fully 8.1 compatible. I'm just bringing this up in case you already have FaceMotion and are wondering if 8.1 is currently compatible.

  • Looking For Tutorial: Transfer G8 to G8.1

I am looking for a tutorial on transferring a g8 character onto the new 8.1 figure bases. I have a lot of custom characters I have made and want to transfer, but I am drawing a blank on how to do this.

Those are definitely better lit. The front and back full shots look very good. The shadows and rim light in Linius Promo 03 are really nice - there's a lot of good detail showing around the ribcage and arms and that shows off your body morph well. As Hylas said, it does look like your bump and/or normal maps are too strong. They're good details, but at that strength they look a bit rough and overly bumpy. You might want to dial the values down on those. It looks like there may be a seam where the face texture meets the torso, but it's hard to tell just from those shots - might want to double check that area. :)

I like the paleness of his skin, but think it's a little too dry/chalky looking. I haven't tried the new PBR Skin shader yet myself, but I expect there are settings in there that can help with that. Take a look at page 2 of this thread, where a user called melissastjames shows several images that show her shader settings for the comparison pictures she posted. That might give you ideas of what settings to play with to get a nice result with your textures. If you have Victoria or Michael 8.1, you could use their settings as a comparison as well. Human skin tends to be a bit oily, so striking a balance between dry and too much (where it starts to look greasy or like shiny plastic) is important. Sometimes it just takes a lot of tweaking the dials until you get what you like. Also, I would say that his eyes seem flat; there's no shine to them. That may be the lighting, of course, but make sure that the cornea and eye moisture materials pick up reflections to really show off the eyes. You could compare your settings to those of any Daz Original or other character you have and build from there. With a few tweaks to the textures, I think all those promos will end up looking very good. I think you're making good progress! Keep it up and don't be discouraged by critique. I think you've got a very promising character there, and would love to see you achieve your goal of becoming a PA.

  • *Released* Natural Eyes II - Merchant Resource for Genesis 8.1 Male and Females [Commercial]

Not a dumb question.  Could you elaborate more though please?

I have included, behind the scenes, adjustments to the tears so they will accomodate the hd lacrimal morph. Do you mean something like this?

  • Michael 8.1

I like him! I think he has a little more personality than M8 or M7, both of whom were pretty generic.

M8.1 looks a little younger. And he reminds me of M6, as others have already mentioned.

The paraplegic morph is a nice bonus and I like the marketing around it.

I do think there's a discrepancy in realism between V8.1 and M8.1, latter looks more toony. It doesn't bother me because I don't generally go for photorealism but the discrepancy is a little strange.

Like with all characters, only buy him if you like his morph and skin. He happens to get released at the same time as the new G8.1M base figure, but ultimately Michael 8.1 is just another character,

Except, many future characters will require M8.1 to look the way they were meant, the same way that's done with previous Victoria/Michael generations, in that sense Victoria and Michael are not "just another character"

Base characters aren't as important as they used to be when V8/M8 first came out.  Some PA characters will probably be based on them, sure, but not even Trance, a character included in the M8.1 bundle requires M8.1.  You didn't see that with the M8 Pro Bundle.

    Fair enough.

At least in the past there has been a significant amount of characters that require Michael or Victoria.

But both V8.1 and M8.1 were just introduced without a single add-on character. Who knows if they'll get as many add-on characters as previous Michaels and Victorias?

At the same time so many great characters are released that don't require anything other than the bare Genesis base figure.

In any case, you can still eventually buy M8.1 when a character based on him is published that you absolutely can't do without.

I wouldn't buy a character now just because at one point in the future he might be required for something else.

Buy him now if you want him now.

    Laurie

Ditto. As much as I want to support the 8.1 male character roll out I really wouldn't use Michael 8.1 for any of my renders or animation. His skin appears like it has been doused with foundation. GM 8.1 is great though, and I will def use it for the FACS, which alone is awesome since I use animation so much.....buuuuut can't justify Michael 8.1 because I would have to buy the HD add-on as well to make it worthwhile. That's not to say that I am not looking forward to the new line of GM 8.1 skins on the horizon with bated breath.

Is that with or without HD Morph?

I got Michael 8.1 and I do like his look.

I do not think he looks like a toon but he does look, compared to Michael 7, very young.

I am not impressed with the body hair, it does look very unrealistic and I shall not be using it.

The Vellus hair on the other hand looks nice.

With Michael 8.1 it depends very much on the light to bring out the eyes and skin details/textures

Do I need Michael 8.1 in my life, no, but then, yes I do :)

Here is a portrait I made.
