The only reason for uninstaling/reinstalling is for Daz Central/Install maanger, and even then it matters only for the odd occasion when an update actually removes a file. As far as DS itself goes it deals only with relative paths, the location of files within the content directory, so as long as it knows where the content directory is it's happy. Install Manager has a right-click option to reset paths, I don't think Daz Studio does (at least in the current General Release).

  • What are the black & white product tabs?

Most content can be isntalled through Daz Central, Daz Instal manager, or through Daz Studio itself - each has its benefits and drawbacks, though Install manager is the most flexible and can install the widest range of content (Daz central can't handly non-Daz Studio, or beta versions of Daz Studio; plug-ins cannot be isntalled through Daz Studio, and some scripts have not been written in a way that works when installed through daz Studio). as long as the content is isntalled in some way (coloured thumbnail) it should work.

Daz Central doesn't keep the downloaded zipsd, as far as I know, so reinstaling the content to fix the paths would require a full redownload.

“The Intel 4004 is a 4-bit central processing unit (CPU) released by Intel Corporation in 1971. Sold for US$60, it was the first commercially produced microprocessor, and the first in a long line of Intel CPUs … The first public mention of 4004 was an advertisement in the 15 November 1971 edition of Electronic News.”  (Wikipedia)  My first PC a decade later was an IBM Brand with an 8088 CPU @ 4.77 MhZ, dual floppies, and a monochrome monitor with a Hercules Monochrome Graphics card that ran Flight Simulator (not yet Microsoft), and Lotus 1-2-3. $3,000 at Sears Business Center, and worth every penny.

  • Where are My Download Links

I've done all that, and installed my files at Daz Central and the only place any of them show up is in the "All Files" tab.

Is there a way to move them to the appropriate folders?

And that's IF I can figure out how to get out of the "All Files" tab. Right now, I'm stuck in that tab and can't figure out a way to get out of it other than to shut the whole bloody thing down and start over

  • Shows That Inspire Animations

I recently got the trial version of the Criterion Channel, they have some great classic movies there.  One I got a kick out of is "Playtime" (1967), might inspire an animation - little if any dialogue, cool use of chrome and glass reflections, furniture with funny morphs, slapstick comedy a la Chaplin/Keaton, etc.  I sometimes have dreams along these lines, ~lost in a big city, wandering around ... surprise

" Jacques Tati's 'Playtime,' like '2001: A Space Odyssey' or 'The Blair Witch Project' or 'Russian Ark', is one of a kind, complete in itself, a species already extinct at the moment of its birth. Even Mr. Hulot, Tati's alter ego, seems to be wandering through it by accident. Instead of plot it has a cascade of incidents, instead of central characters it has a cast of hundreds, instead of being a comedy it is a wondrous act of observation. It occupies no genre and does not create a new one. It is a filmmaker showing us how his mind processes the world around him ... 'Playtime' is a peculiar, mysterious, magical film."  (Roger Ebert, Four Stars Out Of Four)

Oddest thing, just got round to running update and a reboot (first time in a couple of weeks running update and a reboot).

Noticed some status feedback I don't usually see (in the terminal) when launching Studio, to do with postgresql. Then when the UI launched I was presented with a login dialog, and it worked.

Well, Smart Content is now working (without the linux postgres backend setup). Just like it does on Pop-OS....

Wine 6.21-1 on Archlinux (and I launched Studio 4.12)

Never posted on here before but came here just to confirm, just installed Daz Studio on Manjaro KDE without any Postgresql setup and it just worked out of the box when it never used to. I'm using Daz Studio 4.15 installed through Daz Central with Wine-Staging 6.16. I'm not really an advanced Linux user so this is pretty nice.

Edit: Just moved to EndeavourOS, using Daz 4.15 installed with Daz Central as before, with Wine-Staging 6.21. CMS is just working out of the box now it seems. NIce.

  • Daz Install Manager (DIM) Download Failed

Nevermind. I figured out the issue. I forgot to re-import the metadata in Daz Studio.

Before that, I even tried Daz Central for the first time, but i have to admit, an update crashed halfway through installing, and I could not see all my installed content as I can in DIM.

DIM is currently downloading all the new content I purchased. :)

thank you for your help and all the info, Daniel. sorry i missed the unity package on github. the first thing i tackled was seeing if the Bridge is installed properly. it doesn't seem to be as it isn't listed under help>installed plugins. i didn't install anythng myself. i let Daz Central install it. but i have already placed the .dll from github into the proper folder. how else can i get a proper installation of the DTU?

If you installed DazToUnity using Daz Central, then that was probably the Official Daz To Unity Bridge and not my Unofficial version.  However, since you have also placed the "unofficialdaztounitybridge.dll" in the proper plugins folder (usually it is something like "Daz 3D\Applications\64-bit\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\plugins\"), then you have already performed the manual installation for the unofficial DTU bridge.  That should be enough for the "Unofficial DTU Bridge" to show up in the "Help->About Installed Plugins..." window.

I will try to look into the potential issues and get back to you.  For now, please let me know the following:

    • What version of Windows are you running?
    • Are you using any anti-virus program?
    • Did you encounter any error messages when you copied the DLL or started Daz Studio?

In the future, I will look into publishing the unofficial bridge in the Daz Store so that it can be downloaded from Daz Install Manager or Daz Central.  Hopefully, installing the unofficial bridge will be much easier then.

ok, thank you again, Daniel. i hadn't put it in the plugins folder. i think you may have left that off your path in github, and since there's a lot of .dll files in the DazStudio 4 folder, i thought that was the place. so i now have the Send to Unity in the menu. i have just one other question: i'm using the VR core version of Unity. the Unity Hub doesn't even offer HDRP anymore, only 3d Core and VR core. will these versons of Unity work, too, as long as they're 2019 or after?

where can i find this package? Unofficial_Daz3D_Bridge_v1_1.unitypackage. it was referred to in the Unofficial post, but it was never referred to in the Daz to Unity tutorial. i would have asked on the unofficial post but for some reason it's been closed. it was not included in the zip file for the Unofficial .dll, so where is it?
Oh, and i just checked, even with the new Unofficial .dll i don't have a send to Unity, only send to Bryce & Hexagon. Thanx!

    1. There is a new release thread for unofficial DTU version 1.2: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/529086/released-unofficial-dtu-bridge-v1-2-2021-10-31
    2. The unofficial unitypackage was only offered as an alternative for people who did not want to use the unofficial plugin.  The files from the unitypackage are actually built into the Daz plugin and are installed through the "Install Unity Files" check box.
      • Unfortunately, the separate unofficial unitypackage option was removed with unofficial DTU version 1.2 because I am not currently able to provide proper packaging, QA testing, documentation and support for a separate unitypackage, in addition to also maintaining Mac and Windows versions of the Daz plugin and support Unity versions 2019, 2020, 2021 and HDRP, URP and Built-in Render Pipelines in all three Unity versions.  Hopefully in the future, I can automate more of the packaging and testing steps, but for right now, everything is still done manually.
    3. The download link for "Unofficial_Daz3D_Bridge_v1_1.unitypackage" is immediately below the download link for the "unofficialdzunitybridge_v1_1.7z" file.  I recommend that you use version 1.2, but if you need version 1.1 for some reason, the download links for both are available on the github release page for version 1.1: https://github.com/danielbui78/DazToRuntime/releases/tag/v1.1-unofficial-unity
    4. The menu option for Send To Unofficial Daz To Unity (version 1.1) or Send To Unofficial DTU (version 1.2) is usually available here: File -> Send To -> Unofficial Daz To Unity (or Unofficial DTU in version 1.2).  However, Daz Studio uses a fully customizable menu bar, so it may be missing due to user customizations.  Before you start looking into resetting your menu bar customizations, make sure that the Unofficial DTU Bridge is properly installed:  Check under: Help -> About Installed plugins...  This should pop up a window with a list of the installed and active plugins.  Scroll down to the bottom and you should see "Unofficial DTU Bridge" (at least in version 1.2).  If you don't see it, then it may be installed incorrectly.

Hopefully, this answers all of your questions and clears up any confusion.  If you have any further issues, I recommend that you post in the "[Released] Unofficial DTU version 1.2" thread to be sure that I don't miss your posts.  Thanks!

thank you for your help and all the info, Daniel. the first thing i tackled was seeing if the Bridge is installed properly. it doesn't seem to be as it isn't listed under help>installed plugins. i didn't install anything myself. i let Daz Central install it. but i have already placed the .dll from github into the proper folder. how else can i get a proper installation of the DTU? is there an Official DTU plugin i need to install first and then the .dll, or is the Unofficial DTU .dll the plugin? as you can see i am a perfect noob to Daz, Unity and gihub.
i think i know the most about Unity. after we get this installation figured out, i'm wondering if my Unity version has to be the HDRP. i'm doing a project where i have to use the VR core. there isn't even a choice for HDRP in the Hub anymore. will the VR core work ok with the DTU?

  • Download will not complete and "Installations will begin after previous installations"

This happened to me. Just close the window and the installation will continue. sometimes can stop unespectedlly but just click install again and it might continue installing. if not, just log out, close Daz central and then open it agan and logg in again and click install again, it will start downloading from the point it stoped. I repeated this anoying process many times until it finally got installed.

  • German Taxes / Verkaufen aus Deutschland

While the UK was part of the EU, I did want to sell tiny items (home-made pen parts) direct to buyers in the EU, and ran into problems with trying to do things 100% in accordance with the rules, to the extent I stopped selling within the EU. My big problem was that I needed to pay VAT/Sales tax to each individual country. In the UK there is a turnover threshold for VAT, and it doesn't need to be charged or paid in the UK or to a number of other EU states. However in a number of southern European states, and in the EU enabling regulations, there is no minimum threshold at which you are required to charge and pay VAT. There appears to be no central register of VAT rates, or who to send the money to. That meant I had to find every government finance department, every tax office in every EU country I sold to (and I sold parts to 90 different countries) and send tiny sums to them. The fees for paying the tax were often more then the amount I sold the pen part for. My parts cost £2.50, and I sold £200 a year.. That was the source of my main problem, it simply wasn't worth the effort needed to export to within the common 'free trade' area, so I regretfully had to decline EU customers, explicitly because of the 'Free Trade' rules. OK, no more about my attempts to sell within the EU.

First off, as DAZ is the vendor & not you, you don't have to worry about VAT/sales tax. It's part of DAZ's fee that covers the handling of that, and they should charge any EU customer at the appropriate rate. I don't think they do, but that is their problem, not yours.

Second problem is German taxes on your income gained through DAZ, and I am afraid I cannot comment on those. In the UK I'd have to declare it on my annual tax return, something that is relatively simple to do.

  • DazCentral keeps saying 'too many connections' or crashing...

I've been trying to install a number of items I purchased lately, but hadn't installed yet, and today Daz Central keeps popping up the message that it has too many connections to the site, and either requires me to manually log in again, or simply crashes, sometimes asking me to submit a bug report (but the report button actually remains greyed out, but that's a different issue, and not the reason for my post!)

It worked fine a few days ago, but this started happenening today

Does anyone have this as well? Any suggestions? Or is this a Daz backend problem?

Are those based on Madarocsi's skins?

No, they aren't. Darkened versions of CB Guilia with a couple of hue tweaks too. Also the central one has an emissivity of -1500 cd/m^2 to  emphasise skin-skin AO.

Biggest problem with these is CB Guilia's buttock-leg crease is baked into the texture and doesn't align with the bottom of this character's buttock. Means she needs to be modestly clothed at all times, which, in practice, is no great hardship. I really like the slightly reddened patches on the knees, just where people get them.

    Regards,

    Richard.

The other skin artist does that thing with the legs and knees is why I thought it might be. I think I know what you mean about that bottom rear thing and have some tricks I've had to use taking it out of other characters, similar to removing painted on eyebrows.

  • Transferring Content and Saved Presets to a New Computer

    Richard Haseltine said:

If you still have the zips, once you have told DIM which locations to use you just need to select everything in the Installed tab, right-click, and use the option to reinstall all seelcted using current paths. This is purely for Install Manager, though, it isn't actually needed for Daz Studio

One the old machine open the Content Library pane option menu (the lined/hamburger button in the top corner, or right-click the tab)?Content DB Maintenance, then check Export User Data. That gets writeen you the first Daz Studio content directory, which you are going to move to the new machine. Once on the new machine and with the paths set up go to the Content DB Maintenance dialogue and this time choose the Reimport Metadata option - you will then be able to select the user data (all your settings) and any vendor data you want (this is one way to repopulate Smart Content and so on if you choose not to reinstall through DIM).

All of these should, as far as I know, work as long as you have copied the files across and set the directory lists up correctly

Layout files live in, assuming this is a Windows system,

    %AppData%/DAZ 3D/Studio4/user layouts/

(or the Studio 4 Public Build folder for the beta), and it should be OK to copy them across to the matching location on the new system.

Thank you for replying. I received a notification today telling me my new rendering computer has been dispatched and should be with me tomorrow.

By what I understand from your reply, I do not actually need to uninstall and reinstall everything via DIM? If I just install Daz Studio and then copy over all my content directories from the old computer to the new, all I have to do is Reimport Metadata. I assume this creates a file somewhere that I can transfer over for the new Daz installation to read? Then everything will function correctly.

Or should I still uninstall and reinstall everything via DIM? Daz Install Manager is my preferred method for downloading and installing new content. I do not use Connect or Daz Central. I keep Daz Studio 'offline'. Actually, my new rendering computer will not always be connected to the internet anyway. I purchased it solely for Daz Studio and Blender.

That being said, my steps will be:

Install DIM on my new computer.

Either install Daz Studio using the executable I can download from my account - products, or open DIM and install Studio from there.

Copy all of the following from my old computer to my new:

    •  Everything in 'My Documents.'
    •  Everything in 'My Public Documents'
    • Any Poser content dirctories I may have (which are mostly in My Documents anyway)
    • Any other content directories (for instance, content on secondary drives) In this situation, I will ensure the drive names match. So if my second drive is 'E' then I will make sure the second drive on the new computer is also named 'E'.
    • Everything in Users/*My User Name*/AppData/Roaming/Daz3D/

Once I have done all that, I open Daz Studio and right click on the Smart Content Pane and select, Content DB Maintenance -> Reimport Metadata.

Then everything will be as it was on the old computer.

After that, I can then open DIM and download and install all the content I purchased in recent sales. smiley

*Thinking about it, should I also install 'PostgreSQL' immediately after installing Daz Studio and before transferring my content?
