DAZ Install Manager failing.... [RESOLVED]
I used time machine (mac) to transfer my old laptop to a new laptop. Daz central wont work with Monterey. Daz Install Manager was able to download all of the files I own but it is failing to install them. What the heck is going on?? It "fails" all installs all the way down the list. Any suggestions or ideas?
Daz software opens with no problem and even loaded assests that dont exist in my smart content which is empty...as it should be I guess until I figure out why Install is failing... Cheers!
Help with "Daz To Blender" / Not Showing Upkyleburk98 said:
Ok guys I have Figured out the "Not being able to find or open the Daz To Blender Add on" in blender.
So i used daz central installed the Daz to Blender Add on or Daz to Blender Bridge what ever you want to call it. what happened to me was it installed to the wrong location.
It installed to "C:\Users\PHNX\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\BLENDER_VERSION\scripts\addons\DTB"
I copied everything in the DTB folder went back a few folders to "3.0" or the actual version you have installed.
Navigate to scripts addons CREATE a DTB folder and paste what you copied into that folder.
open blender go to add on's and the DazToBlender add on should now show up in blender hope this helps.
Blender Version: 3.0
Daz Version : 4.16 Pro
Make the DTB file into a Zip File not just a normal folder.

Lost and Found category is for assets that have eluded the metadata in some way:
1. Asset not included in Product.
2. Asset path or filename incorrect.
3. No default category defined for the asset.
4. Category explicitly set to "Lost and Found" (yes, it happens, but rarely)
Products with no included metadata (i.e., Poser products, and pretty much anything before Genesis) get something generated by DIM (and DAZ Central?) that at least defines the product and all included assets, but no product thumbnail, no categories and no compatibilities (or anything else, for that matter).
1 & 2 will also result in the assets ending up in product LOCAL USER, since they have been orphaned from the real product to which they should belong.
Thank you!
Looking at my lost and found products, I think they fall into a few categories and how to fix them is not always entirely obvious.
- There are products with the odd thing that's not important. That's probably about half. For example, Some products have a script that opens the artist's store, and that's the only issue. I don't care about that!
- Others have the odd thing that's wrong. This... Iray WetFX 2 | Daz 3D ... was released only a few weeks ago, and the G8 Male shell is in there (quite important if you use G8 male!) and something called "Top coat yellow" which Daz tells me (see below) is a shader.
- Others have lots of stuff missing. Neko Hair for Genesis 3 and 8 Female(s) | Daz 3D has lots of materials missing. I think they are iRay materials on the basis that they are Hairblending overlays, but in other cases, it's less obvious.
- Others don't show any files at all, for example, Genesis 3 starter essentials, so I have nothing to fix. Perhaps this is an example of a missing asset?
So for the two products I linked, or indeed the G3, I'm curious as to whether anyone else that has them sees the same as I do? I'm on Daz 4.1.5 rather than the latest for reasons that I might moan about elsewhere one day, so I suppose that could be a factor?
And one thing that puzzles me. That flash at the top that says "Material" was added by Daz. I know that because I checked the PNGs and they do not say "Material" on them. So Daz knows it's added that to the icon, then it knows it's a material somehow. In that case, why did it not put it in the materials? (I don't expect anyone to answer that, it's more a rhetorical question, but if anyone does know, that would be interesting.)

First, sorry for the delay in clearing your post - your namechange took a while to filter through, and then the froums were down for much of the weekend.
So you are using Install Manager not Daz Central? That seems to be mor reliable on the mac M1 systems so I'm surrpised it is being such a problem for you. Are you able to use it at all, and will it let you log in to your account?
Richard, thanks for your reply and interest! I really do appreciate that!
Install manager did install ok. It also installed files of wich it said where essential. What it refuse to install is DAZ Studio itself and PostgreSQL CMS.
They did download ok, but install manager isn't able to get them installed - Install failed! and this time after time, whatever I try.
I found the downloaded zip files in the folder of DAZ and PostgreSQL CMS and unzipped them right there. which worked fine.
Daz Studio installed ok and I can open it no problem.
I did the same with the PostgreSQL CMS. It unzipped ok, but still DAZ Studio is still asking for it.
So I went into DAZ preferences to the CMS tab. I tried to look for the folder where the PostrgreSQL CMS should be, allthough I'm not completely sure which folder I should be to be honest, Now,I can look for a folder and put it in there, but I can hit the apply button as much and often I want, it doesn't take it in. Afterwards it says 'none' again.
So, I'm still kind of stuck again.

This is how it looks on 4.15.0.2
Maybe it makes a difference, how the templates are installed?
I wonder if you are the only one, by pure luck, who has the dots. I would be glad to see someone else's screenshot, just to double confirm this.
Install:
- I tried on a fresh Virtual Machine, totally new Daz Studio install for the sake of debugging. Everything was done via Daz Central - and yet I don't have the dots.
- I also tried on my main machine, installing the ZIPs manually & reinstalling with DIM. I don't have the dots.
This is insane inconsistency. Daz Studio is a sort of Frankeinstein of Softwares, they just keep putting things on top of eachother, without real quality control.
DazCentral won't install Daz studioRule 101, please do not install using DAZ Central, install with DIM (DAZ Install Manager). DAZ Central do have some weird quirks that blow up in your face on macOS, depending on which macOS version you have and a bunch of other random parameters.

I would say its' about time DAZ people would wake up and give any decend reply here.
I have the same problems as all the other people written about here above. Get to work and something about it, or at least pretend and give a sign of understanding en support!!
I installed DAZ before ok, but since I set up my PC again, Macbook Air M1, I'm unable to get Daz installed. The install manager has been [unreliable] from the beginning as it does freeze all the time. So I installed most items directly through Daz Studio itself. It worked well and was even A LOT faster.
When I download DAZ Studio and install it directly, I can't log in to my account, which means I can't download any of my content.
When I use the install manager, it freezes several times, to get eventually stuck at 86%.
So after spending rufly 1500 euro in total on DAZ I probably quit it and never buy anything for or from it ever again.
Good luck with the [unsatisfactory] support!

Daz Central - installing files placed in Downloads folderHello everyone, it's been a while since I played around with Daz. But after reinstalling my system freshly, I decided to give Daz another try.
I used to download and install content with DIM, which BTW, I absolutely loved. I'm afraid I can't say the same for Daz Central...
I have a lot of content, from Daz Store and 3rd party sites, but because my internet is extremely slow, I usually keep the most important files on my HDD. When using DIM, I simply placed those installable files in the Downloads folder (the one where DIM was usually downloading those files). I restarted the app, and I could choose which ones to install. Needless to say, that feature doesn't work, or maybe I just can't see it in Daz Central. I placed those very same files in the downloads folder, set by the app and I have no option to install them. I could go to the directory and install them manually, but what's the point of that new "improved" content manager?
I am wondering, is DIM still available for download? I'm used to it and I like its simplicity.
Thanks everyone in advance,
DS

OK, it doesn't look as if there was an update - mine iss till the same. It is fixable, open the parameters pane option menu (the lined/hamburger button, or right-click the tab) and turn off Preferences>Consolidate Properties; with both sliders now available click the gear icon on one (tehd second is 200 Plus for me)>Parameter Settings, then add (alt) to the label and finally turn Consolidate Properties back on (or you won't be able to set proeprties on multiple bones at once). If you do this on the Genesis 8 Developer Load and then use File>Save As>Support Asets>Save Modified Assets you can update the files, assuming you installed through Daz central, Install Manager, or manually; Connect installs will require manually editing the affected file, or saving the asset and copying the file into the Connect install.
Perfect. That worked!
Thank you for sorting it out for me. :)

Issues with blackberries@Perttia Followed your advice above. Closed DS and installed the product through DAZ Central. My icons are there and the props load. Something so very simple caused me a great deal of stress. Thank you very much.
Now I'm going to go try it on several other products I have the same issue with.
Issues with blackberriesUsing Daz Central, Daz Install Manager or manual installation is not going to help you, as you have installed the product with DAZ Connect within DS - You need to uninstall the product there and stop logging in to DS
Issues with blackberriesI am able to uninstall and reinstall by right clicking and using DAZ central. I even went so far as to delete all the product files after uninstalling and downloading the manual install and reinstalling that way. No go. Same issue and error message. I am puzzled because the product used to work. ah well. I've submitted a ticket.
Thanks

OK - that path idicates it has been installed within Studio using DAZ Connect - and it was broken in the download. Nothing you do with Central or Install Manager can change this; you'll need to uninstall from within Studio to delete the bad download - and I'm not sure how to do this, as I gave up on Connect about the second week it was available. Try right-clicking on the product in the smart content tab and see if 'uninstall' or 'delete' are options.
Issues with blackberriesI am having trouble getting this product to work. https://www.daz3d.com/bramble-blackberry-and-briar-plants-for-daz-studio-and-iray The icons are blank and I keep getting an error message that there is an error in the file on every prop. I have uninstalled/reinstalled both manually and via DAZ Central. Also tried updating the meta data to no avail
Any ideas?

"I understand how to backup the content, and the scene files, but how do you backup the database, and how often do you have to back it up?"
I back up my entire computer so the appdata folder is automatically backed up. I can then go through my backups to a time where everything worked, restore the appdata and back in business.
The back up does need to be made while PostgrteSQL is closed, otherwise there is a risk of having some files either side of a change which would not work.
Are you kidding? What's PostgrteSQL?
When PostgrteSQL is closed? Where is PostgrteSQL and how do you close it?
PostgreSQL is the actual database engine, it is closed - at least as far as the Content Managemnt System goes - when Daz Studio, Dac central. Install manager, and I think Carrara are all closed.

if it is because of content and database issues, just wipe everything on your intended Library drive and start with a clean slate, redownload it all if you didn't keep the zips otherwise delete all the manifests and start over
C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\ManifestFilesI would avoid connect, just use DIM
just grab your saved scenes first if they don't have dependencies outside of your bought content, they should still open
I have two computers and send duf scenes from one to the other all the time, autoadapted files mostly rebuild, just stuff saved as a support asset can be an issue.
DAZ will ask about missing files too and you actually can use the search function in the window for browsing to them
+1, especially on the DIM; I'm not a fan of Daz Central either.
Personally, keep as much control over your installation as possible.
I use DIM as it is a good way of managing a lot of content; it doesn't stop you having folders for specific items or groups.
I have around 30 content Library that studio can see, only one of which DIM has access too - although I have had DIM install to many libraries previously but I changed that.
What does this mean? (Error log attached).PerttiA said:

So, a big question is: aside from shutting down autologging to prevent newer issues from popping up, what can we do to recover the corrupted files loaded into the system?? I've got 120+ GIGABYTES of data to reload if I have to uninstall and reinstall all of my stuff through DIM. It took me over a week to reload all that stuff the last time.
There is no way around it, one must first uninstall the DAZ Connect installed content inside DS, and if the content was not installed also by DIM or DAZ Central, the content must be reinstalled by DIM or DAZ Central.
If one did use manual installation, it would be enough to copy the DAZ Connect installed content into the traditional locations before uninstalling it within DS, but there would be no automatic uninstaller for that content afterwards.
Thanks for the info, but I just want to make sure I understand what you explained. "DAZ Connect" is the built-in logging link in the D|S application to our accounts, and the encryption issue stems from this, while DIM is the preferred method of installation? I do recall seeing "DAZ Central" as something like a webpage-based installation that ran for a short time, but I didn't much bother with it as I was using DIM and the application log-on at the time, so I didn't want to deal with a 3rd method--besides, what I saw it was even buggier.
One of the things I did like about DIM was the multi-applicaiton installation for Bryce, DAZ Studio, Carrara, etc. And it does help keep things relateable and organized, although there's a shitton of stuff that ends up in the Lost&Found Folder--but I still had additional issues with it as I saw there were many products that were simply not DIM-loadable.
So, you're saying my best bet is to slick out all the DAZ stuff in my system out again and start from scratch once more, but just ensure that there is NEVER a log-on through the applicaiton & keep ALL downloads through DIM and the not-so-occasional manual for the non-DIM compliant items? If so, that is sooo much fun and my hard drives are going to hate you.
What's worse is I think there's at least one additional issue going on with my machine that might STILL not get fixed by doing that--I've been encountering numerous crashing glitches involving IRAY rendering, LAMH, and saving projects that I'm sometimes able to work around and sometimes I'm not able to resolve ATT.
