I think the real value in Premier is the extra 10$ discount across the board AND tokens now start at $5 instead of $10 with Daz +.  With double the tokens (or spending half as much for the same amount) you can easily make up the extra $9.99 a month.  This tier is good for anyone who consistently spends and has an interest in additional features.  Plus, it's great to have in program tutorials, too.

Ah, but that's assuming that the Tokens will still have the same buying value.  And as for the product tutorials... Bwwaaaa haaa haaa haaa haaa!  DAZ has made so many promises about adding more tutorials in the past and has always fallen through on those, while most of the ones that did get made were of mediocre quality at best.  These are the people who haven't bothered to update their manuals and user guide since the days of Genesis 2, and didn't want to add metadata to all the Rendo product they flooded the store with because it would be too much work.

I haven't seen anything about the tokens offering lower discounts, you just get more and they last longer now (2 weeks).  I didn't even realize the longer extension until I added something to my cart.  It looks like right now everyone also gets double the tokens on the new releases (unless is a super secret Premier perk I have right now).  With just one item at $10.77 you get 4 tokens.  And the 2 tokens you can see I have available will get me an extra 13% off.  If you really buy anything on a regular basis, it's worth it.  More tokens with much MUCH more flexibility is a win/win.  Then you add the free bundle each month.  THEN you add the better monthly coupons that replace the Daz + tier.

By the way, those tokens were acquired yesterday so I'm not sure if it reset the expiration date or it was longer, but 2 weeks is a huge improvement-I have felt the need to decide whether or not to spend my tokens or let them expire and it's caused me to justify spending more than I probably needed to.

  • Increasing base resolution of objects.

This can be done also in DS without using another program. Basically converted the prop to a sub-d mesh, then export it out as obj, then re-import it. The new mesh will have a base resolution with the additional polygons.

One issue is some props basically fall apart when they are sub-divided, mostly older ones, basically due to poor vertex welding, but this is less common in newer props.

    felis said:

You cannot change base resolution in Daz Studio.

You can export it to a 3d modeller and increase and import as a new object, that must be saved. It can reuse the original textures (if you don't extrude outside the original mesh (and don't UV unwrap)), but materials will not apply as material, as it is seen as a new object. You can copy surfaces from the original to the updated.

If satisfied with a subD division you can export that and reimport that (still as a new object).

Yeah so the question is "What software would be best for it"?

I can learn new softare, but  never did any 3d modelling before so not sure what is most sensible to use. Also, how much does it cost to use/buy, which could makemake whole operation unfeasible.

Using Bilnear Subdivision as the algoritm in Daz Studio, in the Mesh resolution section of the Parameters pane, will increase divisions without changing the shape.

Looking at your post again, if you are wanting to increase resolution for better collisions with a draping object rather than to drape the divided object then you can in fact use the Viewport SubD - in Simulation Settings under the Collision group. Though if you have only a single polygon for a bed mattress you will potentially need a very high number of Viewport divisions, which may make the total mesh unwieldy.

Another option for collision objects is to create a primitive with enough divisions to work (Create>New Primitive) and use that as the collision target (set it to visible in Simulation but not visible in Render, and the other way round for the actual prop - e.g. the bed).

I was wondering some of the mentioned as workaround but part of the goal is also to make it into a morph so I dont have to deal with timline in subsequent scenes. I think that limits me to a base resolution.

Decided to take the plunge at least one month to test it myself and make my own opinions about it but can't seem to find how to activate it or if it's a different version I have to download. I can see the extra stuff now in my product library but can't do anything with it, not seeing anything new in DIM or inside Daz.

How exactly do I get access to Daz Studio Premier after subscribing? frown

Downloasd and install the plug-ins, use the Connect menu to get them activated and to access the subscription linked content (which has to be installed through DS, which does require a metadata update despite my previous post).

Do anyone have access to the premier tools like geometry sculptor? They are in my product library, but are not shoving up in Daz Studio. (I guess they are supposed to be visible in the plug-in list, but they are not.)

They are visible in the plug-in list in the public beta, but they are inactive.

They are not available in DIM, however the public beta version is.

Have you use Connect>Connect to log in to your account, assuming you installed them? You do need to do that periodically (I am not sure how often - you can choose not to update metadata if you are worried about messing up custom categorisations, though the current beta incorporates chnages in how metadata comnfl;cits are handled which should reduce such issues).

On the scupting, Blender, and of course other applications, have many, many sculpting tools, but the drawback of having to faff about with morphs. What tools does the inbuilt option have? And does it support symmetry? Questions, questions, questions...

Realistically, Daz doesn't have the same resources as Blender, so I wouldn't expect the same feature set. But with the right tools, the ease of use factor (not having to hide everything, change resolution / export / import) might win out,  but knowing what the brushes are would be a start.

What Blender version are you using ?

If you're using Blender 4.x +, just follow the screenshots in this thread : https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/8773366/#Comment_8773366

If you're using Blender 3.x +, never use Wavefront (.obj) (legacy) for import / export... Instead, use Wavefront (.obj) as shown in the above thread. If you insist on using the former, check Keep Vertex Order in Geometry section when exporting.

Thanks for your reply. My Blender version is 3.0.1, I thought it was more recent than that but there you go I suppose. I'm not even seeing an option for legacy obj file, it just says Wavefront (.obj), so I'm assuming that's correct. Checking out the information in your link, I thought I did have all the import/export options set as described, but I just tried creating another custom morph real quick, and it has worked correctly this time! I must have missed off some setting or another - I suspect I may have neglected to check Keep Vertex Order when importing, as in my version that option is slightly hidden away and I was doing it while making notes at the same time...... I will create an operator profile to ensure it's all correct going forward.
    Thanks again!

Problems with Daz Connect install method:

    • Some things (like plugins and DS beta software) cannot even be installed with Connect. So you need a secondary install method for those things. If you only use DIM, that does it all.
    • Some scripts and some plugins were not written to work with Connect, so they fail if they were installed with Connect. (UltraScenery products are a one very popular set of products that do not work if they are installed with Daz Connect, but they are not the only ones.)
    • Some utility products were not written to work with content that was installed with Connect, so they file when trying to access other product that were installed with Connect.
    • Every time you started DS, it would "update" metadata. That often broke working products by installing bad "updates". In the latest DS beta, you can turn off that automatic metadata update, so that is a good improvement.
    • The icons overlaying product thumbnails in Smart Content confuse people and make them think they need to install again with Daz Connect after they have already installed with DIM. This is a very bad thing to do. You end up with double hard disc usage from two independent installations. From then on, the DIM-installed version of the product will be completely ignored by Daz Studio, because the Connect version always has priority over the DIM version. From then on, any DIM update you apply to those products will be installed by DIM, but completely ignored by Daz Studio. You would have to update the Daz Connect version of the product to see the update in Daz Studio. I think Daz is trying to improve that confusing Daz Connect icon overlay situation in Smart Content, but I haven't payed close attention to what is going on there.
    • How do you keep track of what product was installed what way? You can look in the Connect cloud folder to see what is there, but it is all listed by SKU number, not product name. In DIM, you can filter by Connect Installed, but then you have to use DIM anyway to do that.

I have completely given up on Daz Connect. I purged everything Connect related, and I only use DIM. It is really best to only use one install method. Anything else leads to confusion and problem. I think DIM is the one and only reasonable way for me.

barbult, thank you so much for taking the time to write this response, I hadn't quite managed to pick up on the why's and wherefores, so this helps immensely!

Do check http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log#4_22_1_174 for information on how Connect handles clashes between user and vendor (store) metadata.

I'm pretty sure I don't understand all aspects of that.

    • I understand that the Daz Connect icon overlays won't be displayed in DS, if the product is already installed by DIM or manual install. That will reduce a lot of confusion and duplicate installation.
    • What happens on the DIM side of things, if the user installs from DIM after installing with Daz Connect (and not first uninstalling with Daz Connect)? Will the user be warned about the existing installation? Does the user still end up with duplicate installations, and does the Daz Connect installation still take priority? Is the DIM user supposed to be relied on to filter out Connect Installed in DIM to prevent seeing content already installed with Daz Connect?
    • And what happens if a user manually installs after Daz Connect install (without first uninstalling from Daz Connect)? Are there still duplicate installations? Is the previous Daz Connect installation still the one that will be used?

I am sorry, @jjoyner. the files for Country Lane 2 are inside a folder that reads "Carrara_8.5;8;7.2;7".
I have tried anyway, but my Carrara 6 Pro cannot open it. I get the "An I/O error occurred while executing import" message.
Pity, because, as usual with Howie Farkes, it is a great environment, even though quite heavy on my machine (it moves pretty badly in my workspace, even though not as badly as the dreaded Valle Alpina).
I attach a test render done in Carrara 8.5 Pro.

Thanks much for exploring.  At least I know now that I cannot use the items in Carrara 6 Pro and can remove the items from my wishlist.

You're welcome. If I can help, I am happy to do it.

  • Anyone managed to import custom JCMs using Diffeomorphic?

I'm particularly trying to import Ultimate Natural Bend Morphs by K H Studio for Genesis 8 female. The morphs import and have drivers assigned, but they are all set to 0 and don't respond to bone movement.

I'm trying to import through Setup > Morphs > Import Custom Morphs.

A user in this forum seems to have successfuly imported this very set of JCMs here.

  • Increasing base resolution of objects.

If the OBJ export preserved surface names then non-hierarchical materials would still work on the reimported mesh.

If satisfied with a subD division you can export that and reimport that (still as a new object).

  • Increasing base resolution of objects.

I started to play around with dforcing beds/couches/cushions etc.. Sadly I am finding that a lot of products in store, that look spectacular on promos, come with poor base resolution. This severely limits dforce manipulation options. In one case I have found a set where top of the bed was a single "square".

There must be a way to import such objects to something, increase resolution, preferably in the specific area and import back into DAZ.

I understand this is a more advanced concept and will require learning to use some new software but wondering how complicated this could be and how to go around this process?

How is this done? I hate seeing some stuff in Connect and some not.

You'd better ask tech support, or better, Richard Haseltine. I'm likely to forget something important, since I did it quite a long time ago. Of course you could uninstall each product individually from Smart Content and then install it again with DIM. I had too much installed and took a more drastic approach that may not be the safest way or work for everyone.

Uninstall everything, make sure that the General Release is not set to log in or that the Beta is not set to update metadata, then you can select all the products, right-click>Delete.

Yeah, It turned out I'm blind and I can't read lol. The confusing part is that in Blender animations are called "Actions" or something.

Thanks for the help, I also thought you can't import enviroments with Diffeo but it turns out you can, so...
