  • Buy Something That Doesn't Work in Carrara? Post your Questions and Workarounds here. (please)

the light flares are actually postworked by Carrara so one could theoretically render them separately with other layers such as a depth map at a lower resolution to add in another program like Photoshop or Gimp with upscaling applied, or just add lens flares in another program in post for that matter

  • Buy Something That Doesn't Work in Carrara? Post your Questions and Workarounds here. (please)

Ok, now the good comment has disappeared. I am not going to rewrite it all, but

I posted my Easter card in the Show us your renders.
I noticed an issue: the lens flares are directly made by Carrara, but they were supposed to be stronger than what I posted at first. They were ok while I was rendering at small sizes, but my final renders are 4096x2304 (from which I then get the smaller ones)
It seems that, the higher the resolution, the weaker the lens flares become.
So, for the final renders I raised the streaks intensity (of the lights with lens flares) a lot. Now the render looks like it was meant to be since the beginning.

Here you can see both images in two separate posts

  • Free Software that Makes Life Easier

TAFA (Timothy Albee's Facial Animation) tool originally cost $500 but is completely free now.  Originally a Lightwave 3D friendly tool, I believe it is a standalone software with some Poser compatibility which presumably gives it some Carrara compatibility.  The original TAFA sales site still contains useful at-a-glance information:-

    https://www.ta-animation.com/tafa.php

Free download from below link (because the developer, Mac Reiter, lost his original proper installation file on his own site):-

    https://archive.org/details/tafa-character-animation-lip-sync-tool

    Serial number is TAFA-1313-1859-2051

Below is the link to the source confirming he released TAFA free:-

    https://forum.vizrt.com/index.php?threads/if-you-love-something-set-it-free-tafa.246778/

    Another TAFA general interest link:-

    https://forum.winworldpc.com/discussion/15232/offer-tafa-character-animation-lip-sync-tool

If anyone does get around to testing and a Carrara workflow please do share any findings on the forum.  Little known but apparently quite powerful, I guess the oldies are still the goodies in many cases... smiley

  • Carrara Community Art Gallery - Show us your Renders!!!

    - Thank you, Master @Stezza! What's this thread without you heart
    - Ahh, the famous frog rain scene from "Magnolia", @SteveK. I saw that movie so many years ago, maybe it's time to rewatch it.
    - @Wendy, you know that, at least for the moment, I don't like to use AI in my images; but of course I realize that there is a difference between having an image completely made by AI and doing your image by yourself and then having the AI helping with filters, animations or something like that. So, if you think it can be animated that way and really want to see that (I wouldn't know where to start), Chocorabbits grant you a special permission to animate the scene with AI. We can also provide you with higher resolution renders ;-)
By the way, I noticed an issue and maybe I should post it in the thread about tips on using stuff in Carrara. So, the lens flares are directly made by Carrara, but they were supposed to be stronger than what I posted. They were ok while I was rendering at small sizes, but my final renders are 4096x2304, and the higher the resolution, the weaker the lens flares become. So I raised the streaks intensity to 100 and here it is again, but like it was meant to be since the beginning.

Cool, pretty surreal.  If you go the dangerous, scary route to animation, you might find inspiration here:

Just tried rendering a scene in Carrara with Octane and it's being stubborn with the emitters. Anyone else run into this? Might need to dig into those settings again.

I don't use path tracing because as I do animations it's too slow so use Direct lighting, the Denoiser, texture instead of blackbody and slide the sampling rate right up

    anything else is fireflies galore
