  • Making Hair? Include an "Elf Morph" please

For the clueless, what exactly does an elf ear/hair morph do?  Does it pull the hair behind the ear?

  • Importing .pz3 to Daz

This appears to be a scene that contains Genesis figures loaded into Poser via the DSON Importer.  I don't believe there is any way for Studio to read a Poser Binary Morph file (.pmd),  If you can get it loaded into Poser you could see what the morph dial settings are to apply to the coresponding figure in Studio.

  • How to contact an artist here in Daz3d.com?

I want to contact @RiverSoft Art and ask if he/she can make her hair converter and clothes converter also transfer the materials (hair color, clothing styles, options) that come with the original genesis 3 product that was converted

However I cannot find any option to contact them as seen below in the screenshots. I can't find a way to reach their profile

How can i leave messages for the vendors here on daz? thanks!

  • The Newest Evolution Is Here: The Daz Season Pass!

    Lyoness said:

I do understand some of your hesitation after season pass #1.  There were several hiccups that killed the joy. I know that is why they went with a smaller package for the season pass this time.
I can tell you for sure without getting into trouble that Jinx and Wolfgang are not both male. It looks like our theme for the series is going to be PIRATES, so if that doesn't spark joy, this will not be any fun for you.
I had a lot of fun chatting with you during season pass #1, but I understand if you won't join us for Season Pass #2. I'm hoping that we'll have no hiccups and with some smooth sailing, everyone will be excited for #3.

Thanks :) You do good work... and Season 1 was fun for the interactions with other Season Pass holders for sure.

I think you won a prize during the contests? I'm just going to add my $0.02 here... I didn't take any issue with that, and if I did, I would have said it very clearly at the time :) I don't take issue with judging any of those contests, or who won what prize.
The contest guidelines are ever ambiguous, and you don't ever know what they actually value in the winning entries.

I wish they'd reconsider the whole "cloak of secrecy" approach to the Daz store and future models, especially around Season Passes. Video game season passes, I tend to get a lot more information and even pictures of what's coming up.

Especially around Pirates... we've had a few bundles of Pirates already, and I think I've only used the Pirate stuff once or twice.
Plus, the Pirate selection is very limited. Few proper pirate ships, a hodge-podge of costumes and outfits.

No pictures, no promo of what's on tap for Pirates - a genre with rather modest support?

Daz needs to up their game with the Season Pass after Season 1, and I don't think they have demonstrated that they have.

EDIT: You know my talk show is going to be Babylon-5-themed (LOL), which probably means I won't be in the running by default.

    Clark era, or post-Clark? laugh

Well, my talk show Fred was in the Centauri Republic, not Earth Alliance... Clark era Fred might've fared better in the Fred contest, I think.

    ...did he interview Mr. Garibaldi?

B5 is one of my favorite shows

    Nice pic

    Ha, thanks...
The Fred8.1-Centauri was a happy accident when I decided to put the Naval Uniform on Fred instead of "talk show guy".

I'm not sure I would have done that if not for the Season Pass because Fred, although a very good sculpt, is not my usual kind of character... nor was his bundle something I would have purchased. (i.e. not included in my "2 of 5" assessment).

I did try to look for someone that I could morph into a Narn, but making Narn out of nothing is a little harder than Centauri.
As amusing as Garibaldi would be, I would have preferred one of the (un)friendly conversations between G'kar and Mollari... but I just didn't have the assets to do justice to a Narn character.

  • Want to load 8.1 without "all" of 8's morphs? minitut

If you haven't already checked out the Morph v load time thread, here it is How long does it take you to load...

Remember, this is concerning G8s, but It is interesting, as of the 48 respondants to the survey, a little more than half (56%) had load times under a minute (which I personall feel is acceptable).  While almost half had load time in excess of 1 minute, and about 17% had load times in exceess of 3 minutes.

  • Making Hair? Include an "Elf Morph" please

I'd like to ask all the PA hair dressers out their that when they make a hair style, could they please include an "Elf Morph" or at least some sort of ear/hair modifying button.
I know some will say to unhide assets in the preference pane, select hair name > currently used assets > and look for for the ear follower and turn it off... but honestly, I am not seeing it, or it doesn't exist in 90% of the characters/hair I am trying to do...
I am sure the PA's are much smarter DAZ-wise than I am, and it is a feature they could highlight in their Shop Page Advertising... "Super Duper Hairstyle Doo... now with Elf Ear Morph INCLUDED!"
Just kind of sings, doesn't it?

    Thanks!

  • Hair Auto-Fit problems with 4.15

    Hi,

I have some Genesis characters created with 4.9 / 4.10.
Now opening these older creations in 4.15 causes serious problems with some hair. The example I used is Duke-Hair for Genesis. Auto-Fit get not applied / activated. You can do it manually afterwards.

The moment you apply "Youth" morphs (i.e. Child-morph or Growing Up for Genesis) the hair changes the size and position as demonstrated in the attachment.
What is the problem over here? - Solutions?

  • Confusion related to "Mora for Victoria 8" and similar figures

    vijayasimhabr said:

So, what happens if i get this and try to apply to the base Female character?

A character "for Name 8" will sorta work without the Named character: texture should apply ok since it uses the G8 base UVs, but the shape won't be the same as in the promo pics since you don't have the "Name 8" shape which is used as part of the morph mix for that character.

How different it looks depends on how much of the "Name 8" morph is used to achieve the character shape, and how distinctive the "Name 8" shape is: a character made using a named character which has a very distinctive shape like Topsy or Brooke is likely to look very different without the named character, for example.

For previous Genesis figures it could also mean that the textures used custom UVs provided with the Named character, in which case the textures wouldn't work if you don't have the named character.

  • Confusion related to "Mora for Victoria 8" and similar figures

All Genesis 8 characters have the same underlying mesh. A new figure is created by somebody exporting the mesh into a modeling program and reshaping the vertices to create a new morph.

"Mora for Victoria 8" means the artist started with Victoria 8 as a base model. To get the advertised shape, both morphs need to be applied since morphs only store their own individual vertex offsets.

If you applied the Mora morph to the base G8 figure, then you might or might not get a good result, since it's not being added atop the V8 morph.

Texture maps should transfer over fine, though, since G8 figures share the same UVs.

  • Has your purchase patterns increased? Decreased? Or remained about the same?

    mrinal said:

I have stopped spending here since October last year. The GCs they provided a few months back still have some credits left in them. Even my PC+ sub is ending next month which I do not plan on renewing. Primarily due to these three reasons:

    1) Studio's increasing demand on hardware without offeriing any significant value addition with every version increment just to accomodate newer versions of Iray.

    2) Lack of support from CS towards anything but the latest version of DS. When I asked for measure metrics and GoZ plugins for DS 4.14 they are yet to respond even after 2 weeks. Previously, when I had asked for version 4.11 of DS they provided me someone's compressed installation folder with all their customizations and bloat instead of the original signed installer. Its hard to imagine a company not retaining just 2-3 prior versions of their products in their archives.

    3) Introduction of G8.1 which basically killed G3 support from PAs. Atleast till G8, PAs were still including support for G3, but I haven't seen much G3 support here since G8.1 was launched. Luckily for me, other stores are still supporting G3 characters.

Sure, they are free to determine the direction of their products, so am I with my expenses.

...yeah was disappointed by the almost instant abandonment of G3 when G8.1 came out.

As I mentioned I pretty much stopped at G3 because of having to purchase all the resource content I needed for character development all over again (along no more updates to one of my most useful tools, Generation-X).  THe improvement between 3 and 8 were fairly minor compared to lo previous Genesis updates (Genesis 2 went back to separate genders due to chest morph issues while Genesis 3 adopted a more common weight mapping system along with better joint bends).

Also at the time I just became weary of what was the two year interval between Genesis generations. .Felt I'd get G8 finally where I needed it, then suddenly there whold be G9.

I agree 8.1 pretty much was the final nail.  .

Does anyone have any suggestions on a model that might pass for Sophia Di Martino?  She's Sylvie in the new Loki series that just wrapped up, and I'd like to make some art of her, but I've kinda lost my confidence in my abilities to tell faces lately.  Any ideas?

You've given yourself a tough assignment. Here's an idea:
    - Base figure: Kimm
    - Skin: Babina or Jayla, but lighten the shaders and recolor the eyebrows in photoshop.
    - Key HD morph & extra morph: Blend in some Frida. This is your golden ticket to those distinct skin lines. Add some Jayla for eye/cheek resemblance.

Thank you very much for the recipe!  I've put all those figures in my wishlist, now it's just a waiting game for them to go on a good sale.  Maybe I'll get lucky and someone on Renderosity will do a character based on her sometime.

thnaks novastrider ... ill try that

heres what i did so far with bruce and the pic i was going for following a tutorial i found ...

    started with g8m base ...

You've got a good start there.
I'd advise to always make portraits in Iray Preview mode, because working from Texture Mode gives you a false perspective and wrong coloration ideas. Set-up a room with nice, neutral white soft, daylight livingroom lighting or a portrait studio (no overbright studio light, you need to see all grooves and shadows too, especially how it falls over the eyebrows).
Start general with base shape matching, like you did here. Pick a model/morph that looks most like the person and start punching/presurizing the face of the shape, while looking at photos from your person from all directions (front, side, half-side view). Focus on general eye depth, cheecks, jaw and nose size and shapes first, then start matching the eyes in as high detail as you can. Get every little angle as correct as possible (eyes are the most important thing ever to make it feel right).
Then look for a skin texture that most closely resembles the skin of your muse. Pay special attention to matching the age of the skin first (more detailed skins with lots of grooves are often better for most portraits than just pretty clear skins), 2nd thing to look for is matching eyebrow shapes (although those can be fixed in photoshop or with fibermesh) and nasolabial lines and lip shape. Don't worry about skin color: this is by far the easiest to change by shifting the colors in the shader (turn down aaaall those ugly reds and turn them to slighly white/yellow for 9 out of 10 models) or by fixing it in photoshop.
Apply the skin and start tweaking the model in more detail (in Iray Preview, you need to see what you are doing on the final product). Now start paying attention to little things like 'how are the teeth placed in my muse?' Look at photos from when they smile and laugh: which muscles are moving around: do they have overbite or underbite? are their teeth places forward or backward, big or small. This has a huge impact on getting a portrait right and for when you pose them in the final picture. Also: how deep is their nose compared to their chin? How thick are the sides of their head? How did this person change over the years? Am I making a dreamlike impression of them from what everyone thinks they look like or am I paying tribute to them in a certain period of their life? These are important choices because peoples faces change massively between their 20s and 40s.
Done with all these steps? Now you get to pick and add the hair and look at your model in a new light! Did you get it right? Go ahead and look at it with fresh eyes and tweak some more. Do they have any facial marks you should photoshop in? Do they have darker, brooding eyes then what you are getting in your render? Well, maybe paint a few shades of transparent black over those eyes in Photoshop.
Done with this bit: add some clothes that match the person and check again if you are getting the right impression. Is their head too big for the body? Should you manipulate the hair a bit more to make it less present? Keep tweaking till you get it right!

    thanks

If you start out with Tristan 8, you could easily work your way to Bruce Campbell. Just requires some darkening of the eyebrows, thicker eyelashes and keep nudging all your morph options until you get that distinct top of his nose/brow/tighteyes right, that scowl. Once you have that down, it's just tweaking for details. Pose him with either his signature car salesman smile (high mouth corners, teeth lower) or his closed mouth default (mouth in a single line, high bottom lip pushed over top teeth).

Edit - I found a direct link to the Clint Eastwood page - Cowboy (arduino.net).

And Eli Wallach - Ugly Cowboy (arduino.net)

The buy buttons are still active but I would be wary of using them myself before checking the files are still available as the rest of the site, like the main menu, seems down.

Here's the Ugly Cowboy link at Rendo (also inactive now.)

And the Bad Cowbuy (arduino.net) link to round out the set.

I have all three Cowboy's and they are all of very high quality, but the Morphs don't convert to a newer Figure -- I was able to convert the M3 textures to M4, which I can apply to any of the Genesis family of figures -- Werts did a nice Clint Eastwood Morph that I use the Good Cowboy Texture with

While I don't have an issue with downloading on my D|S computers, I wonder if it is possible for a user who wants to isolate their computer from the web to log into another that is connected and download the plug-in's zip to a stick and move it to their D|S system? If everything is clean security wise, wouldn't that work?

Or if you are on a pad, to upload the file to Google docs/cloud and transfer the file over...?
