    I found a workaround : I created a morph for the outfit with smoothing modified applied and then removed the modifier :)

  • Conflicting morphs

    Another morph conflict which was confusing to track down since the character name is misspelled on the Scene and Shaping tabs which you may not notice at first, plus the other product is not a character but a morph pack.  The two conflicting products are:

    https://www.daz3d.com/clairissa-for-cj-8-and-genesis-8-female
    https://www.daz3d.com/mesmerizing-faces--bodies-for-genesis-8-female

    It's been reported so a fix should hopefully be on the way.

  • Help please Messed up something on G8F

    Yay, I think, I made it.
    6 giga byte of my dsf files to go through, until I narrowed it down.
    I just hope, there is nothing going on still rewriting my dsf-files, who knows.
    The error  has been hiding in severall of my dsf files
    in line 18, wher it is suppose to be
    "parent" : "/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Genesis8Female.dsf#Genesis8Female",
    it was
    "parent" : "/scene/ ...", instead
    so, I think, what I've been doing that caused this mess, was to rename a scene file, opening it and resaving it, despite its error warning.
    However those 6 dsf-files in my main morph data-folder appeared to have been corrupted completley randomly.
    Thank you for your help and patience

    Ok, then it's down to process of elimination...

    The morphfiles that G8F reads when loading, are located in "...data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\", with DS closed, move the folders that you find in there somewhere DS doesn't see, leave only the "...\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\DAZ 3D\" as the problem is more than likely not with the morphs inside that folder.

    The "Genesis 8 Female Dev Load" should now load without complaining about missing file, does it?

    If DS wasn't complaining about the missing file, close DS and move half of the morph folders back to "...data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\", does DS now complain about missing file when you load the "Genesis 8 Female Dev Load"?

    Whether DS complained or not, you now know which half of the folders does contain the problematic morph file.

    WendyLuvsCatz said:

    if it was accidentally included in another product it can be removed with an update of that product, I have experienced this, why is it a secret?cc

    Clearly because people are being asked to accept something that falls outside of what they believe. Until they witness it for themselves they will never believe it.

    I can totally believe that Daz can remove something that wasn't supposed to be installed because I've seen it happen. When I first installed Daz3D, there was a morph I applied in my first scene (I forget what it was called, some athletic looking type) and within a few weeks it mysteriously vanished. Gone without a trace.

    You can check if the problem is caused by those Xtransfer morphs by moving the folder Xtransfer out of G8 morph folders, the G8F the morphs are located in "...\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\"

    This only started after I installed Xtransfer and moving the files did nothing to help. I was able to make it so its didnt close when I tired to load a genesis 8 female figure and i did get warnings this time. But their odd because I was loading marion and not snowflake

  • Daz Studio remains in memory

    The "Cleaning up" sounds like washing up the communal trash can, disinfecting and polishing it every time it's emptied, or writing a harddrive full of one's before formating...

    As I understand it:

    • for each node (think, character, prop) in the scene hierachy, memory gets allocated;
    • for each attribute (think morph, think shader, texture et al.) of each node memory gets allocated;
    • there is perhaps an algorithm that looks for nodes/attributes already existing and then referencing to the already reserved memory instead of allocating new memory;
    • when DAZ studio closes, all memory allocation needs to be removed aka "cleared".

    What I don't understand is, why this takes so much time. To me it seems, there's quite old code that handles memory management in a very ...ehm... special way (good read on this topic which I love to share w/ newbies: https://gamefromscratch.com/c-memory-management-isnt-the-boogie-man-you-may-think-it-is/ ).

    What I - in a naive way, probably not being able to understand the main and critical underlying problem (as long it's not organizational), would consider was creating something like a "meta control block" that surrounds the entire object hierarchy and uses an algorithm like e.g. Boost's rbtree_best_fit https://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_77_0/doc/html/interprocess/memory_algorithms.html

    Alas, I suggested more if I could read the code.

  • Help please Messed up something on G8F

    When you have a morph calling something it shouldn't, reinstalling the base figures and/or DS, DIM, whatever, doesn't help as the problem is with that one morphfile that doesn't get reinstalled with the base figure, DS and/or the installer. The only thing that helps, is identifying the morph and fixing or removing it.

    Did you load the "Genesis 8 Female Dev Load", it is different from the default Genesis 8 Female, as the Dev Load doesn't load the lashes or textures.

    EDIT:
    Something else is weird about this case.
    Usually, when a dsf file is missing, you can resave the scene, and the next time you load a scene you don't get an error message anymore.
    Not in this case. I get this blank error message every time I load a G8F file.

    Yes, if a scene file is calling for an asset that's missing, saving a scene can remove the error, but in this case whatever is calling the missing asset is hidden amongst the morphs that are read during the loading of whatever G8F character - Reinstalling Genesis 8 Female Essentials does not help, as those files do not touch the characters/morphs that you have installed for G8F.

    Have you tried loading the "Genesis 8 Female Dev Load" into an empty scene, does she also complain about the missing file?
    If she doesn't, the morph that's calling the missing file must be related to eyelashes.

    Weird.  The script correctly sets the resolution level to base before exporting and then reimports it.  Try setting the resolution manually before running the script.

    Free but the entire XTransfer series is on hold at the moment.

    Cool.

    But now I have another question.

    Sometimes Daz Studio can't read the directory path created by XTransfer. The converted morphs don't show up in the "Shaping" tab anywhere. How can I fix this?

    XTransfer does convert the morphs, and puts them in the directory it says it will. But then the directory path to the converted morhs does not show up in the "Shaping" tab.

    My guess is there's something very different about the rules for directory paths between Genesis 3 and Genesis 8, such that simply producing the XTransfer version of the path structure from Genesis 3 to Genesis 8 will produce this problem.

    Anyway, the directory path created by XTransfer in this case is: /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 8/Female/Morphs/XTransfer/HSTW/HMK1/FairyEars1.dsf

    And that appears to follow the pattern of the the way XTransfer produces these new diretory paths, as the path to the original morph is:

    /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 3/Female/Morphs/HSTW/HMK1/FairyEars1.dsf

    But for Genesis 3, the morphs appear in the "Shaping" tab at: Genesis 3 Female > Head > HSTW Head Morph Kit 1 > Ears

    EDIT: I am pretty sure this can be made work by setting the tesselation to 0 or something like that. At least that way I can manually create morphs for that hair, so I guess its just a matter of finding the right settings to make the dforce2morph script work.

    CJ Bianca (over at the other place) is a 'close' resemblance of Rosa Salazar (Bianca is Rosa's middle name and the blood under the eyes from her Alita: Battle Angel character in the main promo suggests this is intentional). Not a perfect lookalike but definitely close. A beautiful character either way - Good work by Colm Jackson. Off to buy this now :)

    Yeah, I agree. Good enough resemblance. I wonder if you mix it with the Girl 8 if it looks more like Alita.

    Colm is one of my favourite character creators, the characters keep getting better and better, and very real instead of stylized.

    Tried it with Girl 8 but the head also morphed too much. Tried with just Eye Size morph and Iris Size and it got closer. Need to play with it a bit.

  • ? Less hassle (easier learning curve) FaceGen Artist or Headshop 13?

    Just my personal opinion here but I wouldn't get either these days. I don't believe either of them work natively with the Genesis range of models, both use intermediary figures which is then translated to the Daz figures. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this. Of the two though, I found that Facegen delivered the best results but others may differ with that.

    I would use Face Transfer that comes natively with the newer Daz Studios. I've been having some good success with it recently. If you get this one, you'll need the unlimited version:
    https://www.daz3d.com/face-transfer-unlimited
    Then get Face Transfer Shapes to 'fix' the results (this is a must iMO):
    https://www.daz3d.com/face-transfer-shapes-for-genesis-8

    Face Transfer is limited to G8F and G8M (not 8.1 yet) but that may not be an issue for you.
    Whichever one you use, getting the right type of photo is the most important thing and they'll always need other morphs dialling in. None of them will be great with a poor photo. At best you get a base look-a-like to start with. Although, you can get some create characters by ditching the generated textures and simply using the new morph with existing textures.

    Hope that helps.

  • UV maps

    Thanks again. And actually I think that a lot of textures from way back when were very good. Again, I used poser. But using a few diff Merchant resource sets , (Along w/ a morph magnet thing for poser) Photos of my own lips along w/ bump maps, photoshop brushes and settings I made this Character in 2005. Real life caught up w/ me later and I haven't done much in a very long time.

  • Do I have a morph active?

    Faces all look weird and alien-like.  They have wide eyes that are turned upwards at the corners.

    I think there is an eye morph being applied to G8M by default?

    I attached what im seeing with both G8M and G8.1M (the example attached is G8.1M).  Do the eyes look weird or is it just me?

    According to parameters tab, there are no morphs being applied + no hidden morphs either, so maybe i am hallucinating?
