  • Loading clothes or poses into smart content

Yeah, don't get confused with different ways to install stuff, if you're using DIM or Daz Central then you do not want to mess around with Connect because if you do then you risk installing the same material twice.

As for smart contents...  the keyword is metadata. In order to add a file to the smart contents pane you need to categorize it, and add this metadata which will determine what kind of file you're adding. In order to do this you need to use the content library pane, right click the folder which contains the file(s) which you want to add and then use the option "Edit metadata...". There you can set the type of the file you're adding. So....  actor/character for figures, preset/material for.. materials. etc. After you set that up things will become accessible in smart contents.

  • Please Advise. 4.2 is Not Using GPUs for Rendering

IceCrMn Yes that is enabled.  I may have resolved the issue to some degree.  I was able to make a test run on a new hard drive with 4.2 and the GPUs fired up.  If I imported anything from the old install, it stopped working.  I was able to get it to work if I had almost no content installed.  I have about a Terabyte of content so I'm downloading it now.  Can't transfer it in because it causes the same fault.  Something got corrupted and I have no idea what so now I have to redownload all my CMS content which was 632 GB + 239GB of "other" content from Renderosity.  Daz Central doesn't have a install all button so this is horrible.

After my current project I will be looking to possibly change to blender.  This is unacceptable.

  • how do you add materials to things?

Does the item come with materials? Is it a daz product, and did you install in a way thata dded it to the Content Management System (through Daz Studio, Install manager, or Daz Central or manually and then import metadata)?

  • How Do I Find Missing Materials?

Well, the first question would be, how did you install the products?

Lot's of things can go wrong when packaging something for distribution.

So here are a couple basic things.

If they are there, and this is content you bought from Daz.Then most likely it was installed with both Connect and either Central or DIM.

That usually makes install stir fry and you'll need to do a little work getting it sorted out.

I suggest using only DIM and never logging in inside Studio so Connect won't fiddle with the metadata. You only need to login inside Studio if you are using Connect.

If they aren't there you need to look inside the zip folder the product came in to find out where it was supposed to go.

Posting a screen shot of the popup, or copy/pasting the error it shows to your forum post would make things easier to diagnose :)

This is a known issue with 4.20.0.2, the Public Build has a fix.

Hi Richard, thanks for your reply, maybe you could point me to the public build solution, I have searched for an update to version 4.20.0.3 as I understand that this will do the trick, but can not find where I can download it, if this is the solution you are pointing to?

The Public Build is the beta - it's free but, if you haven't yet done so, does have to be purchased from the store https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-beta . Once you have it it it is a separate isntallation from the General release, and has to be installed through Install Manager (not manually or through Daz Central) https://www.daz3d.com/get_install_manager/

There should be an update to the General Release, assuming there are no sudden issues with the beta, early in the week.

Yes, I have installed the public build, like you said, version 4.20.0.2 but there is no update to that, I assume I would find the update in the preference menu, but it says that no updates were found, I will check again later, and see if it will be available :) Thank you again, appreciate your help.

The update, 4.20.0.3, was released on Thursday.

  • DC / DIM - tweaks to help users to roll back to earlier versions

    IceCrMn said:

I''m starting to agree with you AndrewJJP.

There should be a "Roll back to last version" option in DIM and DC(Daz Central)

That would be beneficial to everyone.

And yes, one of my concerns was the ticket system being tied up handling old version requests.

DC shouldn't be configured by default to install upgrades to software only content products.I don't know that it is.I use DIM and manual installs so I have no experience with it.

Windows 10 comes with an archiving software called "File History".It can be used to back up whole directories or single files.Maybe that can be called from a Daz Script to set up a basic backup system?

Maybe a batch file run by the scheduler that just copies to a target folder and adds a date to the end of the file name could be a simpler option?

Not sure what could be done for the mac users.I'm sure they are close enough to linux that they already have some powerful tools to use for backups/archiving.

I'm assuming it doesn't require anything very complicated. There must be code in DIM / DC that deletes the installer. I'm just suggesting they make what, on the face of it, is a simple change to that code. Instead of deleting the file, they move it. Coupled with something in the FAQ about how to roll back, I think that change that would help users, and help the poor overworked Daz support team.

Of course, that won't help if someone went out of their way to delete it themselves (which your suggestion would cover), but if they did that, and they lost it, it's harder to have much sympathy. Although I'd still say a simple download from the web site would be ideal.

(I hadn't seen the file history, so thanks for sharing that.)

  • "Open" from Daz Central and show in Daz Studio function is "broken"

    Hello Daz Experts,

This is most likely a "user issue" and not a software problem. I recently started using Daz 3D Studio 4.20   [4.20.0.2]
Everything works fine and going through the provided tutorials plus using google and youtube, I was able to get some amazing results with just a few days of practice.

One thing is strange and I was apparently not able to find the right keywords to describe my problem and search the Webs , so I could not solve it myself yet.

I'm using Daz Central 1.5.0.20 [which most professional users will probably discourage, but it proved to be very useful for me as newcomer to "find my stuff" in the Daz Studio GUI initially]
All assets I bought through Daz Store are visible in Daz Central and can be successfully installed and used in Daz Studio -> no synchronization Problem. "Daz Connect" seems working.

However, the very handy function to "Open" the asset from Daz Central in Daz Studio and show where exactly in Studio/Products it is located seems to be broken again since yesterday.
In fact this happened a few times now over the last couple of days. Re-installing Daz Studio always fixes the issue, but after a few hours of usage this "Link" between Daz Central and Daz Studio breaks again.
Restart of both Daz Central and Daz Studio has no effect. Reboot of the Computer (Windows 10 Home 64bit 20H2 on an ASUS/AMD Ryzen 9 3900X / 64GB / NVIDIA RTX2080 Ti platform) also has no effect.

Has anybody experienced the same? How can this useful feature be re-activated without re-installing Daz Studio?

    Any hint is welcome,
    Guido

  • Missing materials?

I'm pretty new to DAZ, and I bought a bunch of stuff on the President's Day sale. I'm just trying to get to the point where I can do a basic render, but I keep getting notices when I load an object that materials are missing. Quite a few things, like Charm Hair, don't seem to render in Iray except as a solid white object.
I used DAZ central to download/install everything, so what has happened to these materials? What can I do about it?

  • DazCentral won't install Daz studio

This installation process is awful.  I tried both the Daz Central and Daz Install Manager.  Both get to some point and just quit downloading or installing.  Have you folks never heard of InstallShield?
The software install is for my wife.  If it was me, I would have given up already.

  • UltraScenery - new territory [Commercial]

@pighelmet That is wonderful news! I think the problem was really with Daz Studio and not UltraScenery. I was informed yesterday that the error message that you posted did not come from the UltraScenery script, but from something "higher up" in Daz Studio. Maybe between Daz Central, Daz Connect and DIM installation attempts, Daz Studio got screwed up somehow. I don't know why Daz3D had to make so many conflicting and confusing installation methods. It looks like you are in good shape now. Stick to DIM only and I think everything will go well. smileyyes

  • Where do I find ultra scenery in my content browser?

No No No. Do not install UltraScenery products any place other than where DIM puts them. They will not work if installed in arbitrary locations. The accelerator manual install package is not even fully functional. Daz declined to put the actual plugin into the manual download file, even after help requests were submitted about it being missing. You need to install the Accelerator with DIM or possibly Daz Central, but I have never tried that. Do not use Daz Connect (inside Daz Studio) to install UltraScenery products - they will not work. Use DIM and UltraScenery will work perfectly.

  • **Updated- Help with switching from Daz Central to IM and not messing things up.

    Richard Haseltine said:

That is one of the drawbacks tio Daz Central, it allows the setting of only a single path (it's also, of coruse, one of its strengths as it avoids the confusion that can be caused by setting different paths for different things). I would have thought it would track where the files were initially installed and update those, or at least remove them before installing the new ones, but if you want to be able to keep applications on a different drive from the content you really need to use Install Manager https://www.daz3d.com/get_install_manager/ .

That is too bad. I like Daz Central, but I don't think I want to run the application on my external drive as it would probably make things run really slowly.

Thank you for the link. I do have the install manager, I just have never used it on this computer before today....and I probably have already made a mistake. I copied the Daz Studio Install Location information from Daz Central and pasted into the Install Manager 64bit Software base location (which showed in IM it had been set to my external drive) . I then allowed the update and it appears that I installed it too deep in the directory. Thankfully Daz Studio 4.16 itself still works.

What would my next step be? I attached images how my IM is set up and also how the files installed.

Also, am I going to need to uninstall all my content using Daz Central and reinstall with IM?

Thank you for your patience and help!

To be frank do not use/or want Daz Central.

Am interested in new Daz Studio Version

To get it have to install Daz Central.

After program is installed (Daz Central) type in name and password (Trust me, have done this 8 times already) I am doing it correctly.

The program does not know me

I can sign into my account, so information is correct.

    Have cleared the cache

!. Is anyone else having the problem  with Daz Central

    2. Is there any type of workaround that  would enable me to download the program (just the bare bones)

    Thank you

Um, no, one does not need to install Daz Central. It's in our Product Library: https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files#prod_13176  where it can be downloaded manually.
