It seems like there are always at least one or two Thursdays now without a new DO character release, the official good ones I mean. I expected something more exciting for Halloween, because last year we got Lycan, and the year before that we had Death, Dain, and Karmen. This year all we got was Bluepage Riding Hood.

Kayla's textures look great, but it still feels a bit underwhelming.

You just woke a memory for me. Before 'cosplay' my backyard had a 50-gallon drum, rusty and on its side. (I have no idea why it was there!) But after reading some Heinlein books in the school library, it turned into my rocket to the stars and I had marshalled my little brother and sister, along with some neighbors to join me on the trip. I was space mad. 

...and you just reawakened an old memory of a kids illustrated Sci-Fi story I loved titled Rusty's Space Ship by Evelyn Sibley Lampman. It told of an imaginary journey that the main character and a fried took through the solar system with a mysterious alien guide in a backyard ship cobbled together of old boards and such named the "Terra Terro 1".(no spoilers).

40 years ago, a friend of mine (and fellow Sci-Fi aficionado in Seattle (where I was living at the time) found a copy at a library book sale and lent it to me  It brought back fond memories making me feel like I was ten years old again. 

I even thought about building a similar "backyard space ship" while other kids were building go carts and "soapbox" racers.

Back then I was a total astronomy and science "geek. I even has my own 50 power refractor telescope which my mum bought as a birthday/Christmas present    Just about every night it was clear I'd be out in the back yard scanning the cosmos.

I also would check astronomy books out from the local library's adult section which I took home poured over, learning a lot about what was known back then.

Years later in college where I took an astronomy minor, I ended up in what was a "dream job"I had as a youngster, working as an assistant at the school's observatory (which had a 16" Celestron "light bucket" under a dome on top of the science building .

I remain extremely fascinated in astronomy in m y senior years, and the images from the Hubble and Webb space telescopes along with the Mars rovers and probes that flew by Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto still captivates me.

So cool! I didn't discover cool grown-up SF books until I was in junior high. I thought it was something you were supposed to outgrow, so I was just obsessively rereading the Prydain Chronicles (and Narnia, but I didn't like those as well).

Ah, yes, those stacks of clean underwear are all I enjoy about Laundry Day. Also my clean favorite tees. Both of which are in short supply, so can't put this chore off any longer.

My problem is I have recently had a number of issues with my machine and have had to re install DS. I cant find anything using DIM and I dont actually use smart content because, as you say it isnt reliable. This means having to install all my content manually to keep things tidy. That would be fine but me being me I keep making errors with the installation and having to star over which is really frustrating. Just have to remember to back up to my external drive each day I suppose...

A character animation test for an upcoming episode of my Star Trek fan series Aurora. This was really supposed to be a simple test of some new morphs and clothing for a minor background character you’ll see for about 10 seconds, but it kind of got away from me LOL. I hadn’t intended to use cloth physics (in C4D) but it turned out to be easier than it used to be, tho I went through about 5 different outfits to get here. Anyway, it was a fun exercise, and I learned a lot, including some problems I didn’t know I had to solve. This is using 3DUK's TOS Dress for G8F, Mylochka's Observation Deck, and RawArt's Big Cats: Lion texture.

A proposito di animazione, dovevo fare un introduzione alla Star Wars per un video, ma seguendo i vari tutorial per crearla, con programmo tra l'altro che non conoscevo, ho avuto un idea: Usare il DAZ.

Ho fatto la scritta e la trasparenza, l'ho applicata a un plane, messo un paio di luci, sfondo con le stelle, e via. Ho fato l'introduzione alla Star Wars, tutto in DAZ.

At the risk of giving away my age, my professional life pretty much tracked the rise of desktop computing, then the Internet, followed by mobile and the cloud. Looking back, these trends traced the evolution of the x86_64-Windows PC duopoly, then x86_64 in data centers, and ARM on mobile devices. (More or less, as far as the major computing platforms are concerned.) Understandably, most consumers may not be aware that Linux has pulled ahead of Windows OS. Today crucial parts of the Internet are pretty much built on it; sticking strickly to the OS kernel, Linux lies at the core of Android. Working behind the scenes, Linux hasn't been the face of computing that many consumers interact with. 

In no way am I reviving the flame wars of the 90s and early 2000s. Windows is the predominant OS, thanks to tech and market dynamics. But going forward we're entering an era when computing will also be shaped by geopolitical rivarly. I'm talking about China, it's rise as a hardware and software powerhouse, and it's drive towards technological independence.

Reading the tea leaves, my guess is that China will break off from the proprietary x86_64 and Arm chips; instead it will build its own hardware architecture around open source RISC-V or the like. And the OS it fosters won't be Windows or Android or Mac; instead it will be another Linux variant. To muscle it's own consumer systems countrywide -- trending a billion and over users, by industry estimates -- it won't rely on free market, but rather on central government directive. So Linux afictionados, look to the Far East. Odds are, the future lies there.

(Personally, I'm pinning my hopes on RedOX, a newbie, another UNIX-like OS but written with Rust.)

And what does this all mean to Daz3D? Hard to say for certain. Will it eventually evolve into a cloud application, leveraging some sort of Web Assembly stack that accesses the local GPU? If so then it may become OS agnostic, from the consumer's POV, running in the web browser. But if it stays tied to desktop OS, then any rise in use of Linux -- propelled by China -- may motivate Daz3D to establish a stronger footprint there.

As of today, I'm content with the way things are. I ditched Windows more than a year ago for Ubuntu Linux variants. Thanks to generous folks in this thread, I've got Daz3D running in Bottles/Wine. I'm not agitating for anything and happy to see the future unfold in its own way.
