  • Eva 7 - just what we needed...

To be fair in that render she has lipstick on. although generally yes, the palms aren't quite as light and the lips arent quite as dark as they probably should be.

I can't claim credit for the skin idea, it was someone in the V7 thread.

But, starting from the default iray settings, in the material tab you select all the skin, turn the translucency way up (.86 for this render) set the translucency color to generally a brighter red (h/s/v of 17/255/165 in that one I think) and the diffuse color to a very light cyan (164/16/239), but basically just fiddle around with those options until you find a tone you like. I also probably lowered the specular a tad, as it shows up more on the darker skin.

As for the lighting, Paiter's Lights obviously (I really need to set up a banner in my sig)

And yes, the hair is the fantastic Omri Hair.

Yep, now that you mentioned the translucency value, it is explained why the new girls (Victoria 7 and Eva 7) render so tanned out of the box. The Materials presets for both have a way high translucency value, between 0.5 and 0.6. These are to much for a Caucasian character. When rendering Victoria 7 against Victoria 6 (Anna textures), Vic 7 seems a little bit unreal. Eva could be the Girl from Ipanema or something like that, but still would need a more reddish tone to be real.

I was just finishing a render with my adjustments to the skin tone and used lower values for translucency when reading your post. Possibly I am in the right path, but I would like some feedback about. First image is Vic 6 with my skin preset and Vic 7 out of the box preset. Second image with Vic 7 and Eva 7 adjusted presets. Any sugestions? Thanks in advance.

I don't think there's actually anything wrong with the skins themselves, but the light does seem a little harsh. What's the color temperature?

  • Bored about Bikinis, lingerie and underwear for female characters

I'm going to chime in a bit here.

First of all, I recognize that the content creators are going where the sales are. That so much of the clothing is skimp-wear is a commentary more on our buying habits than on the creator's crafting habits.

However, that said, I think this thread is plenty of proof that there is a solid market for non-skmp clothing.

For example, I pretty much cannot use skimpwear at all in my project, which is a webcomic using DAZ for the artwork. It's a superhero comic, and no, I do not want my main character to look like Starfire or Red Sonja.  There's some great stuff I already have, like her school uniform and some other nice things. But there is less variety available for 'normal clothes' than I would like.  I have looked around on Rendo but in my experience it is as bad if not worse in terms of skmip-wear.

So... given this and a couple of other threads, of quite a large number of people saying we would like more normal clothing for our characters, hopefully a few intrepid PAs will take the ball and run with it and give us more variety, seeing that there is a small but enthusiastic market for it.

If you want a wide variety of clothing for any character not named Victoria 4, you will need to learn how to get it on the figure, and you will need to shop at many more storefronts.  I have a 50Gb runtime of female clothing and a 25Gb or so of male clothing - and all of it goes on any figure I have purchased over the past decade and very little of it has gone on V4 or M4.

As far as a few intrepid PAs, don't hold your breath - they are very, very risk adverse, and for good reason.  How would you like to spend a month working on a male clothing outfit and only sell 10 - 20 copies.  That has happened too often in the past.  Good luck in getting any vendor to think that things have changed - and they haven't, especially since the Poser/DS schism.

  • Adult to teen in 1/2 second - Is this a bug?

Using either Eva 7 or Victoria 7, I find that some of the pose products cause the figure to suddensly shrink and change to a younger shape (something like shriveling) as soon as I apply the pose. Examples: Fashion Model 07, 14, Precious Model poses for Eva 7 - On The BoxB19 (B19M reverts to normal shape and size), and B20  (B20 M reverts to normal size.) If I use B20M for example, and mirror the pose, it works as it should.

    Any ideas?

  • Eva 7 - just what we needed...

I see now some of the PAs are starting to voice their own feelings, and I appreciate that.

As I've been trying to say, I can see past the shaders and all the way to the possibilities, so to speak.  As artists working in an infinitely dynamic platform (after all, we can change textures, color, lighting, morphs, clothing, props, and scenery), I think this really is on us.

I refuse to grouse about my own inadequacies as an artist as if it were the fault of the software maker or the content providers; not in this case!  The situation here is SO MUCH BETTER than the 2D characterizations, lazy storytelling, and lame plot development out of Hollywood.

And I think I'm going to buy Victoria 7 and Eva 7.  So there!  cheeky

One thing to note about Lyoness / Fred Winkler Art, is the real approach to eyebrows. Look at the promo art- note one of Sherri's is different than the other one. Only slightly, but that really adds to the realism. You can't see that in mine due to the hair covering the eyebrow.

Looking for a fun, casual short hairstyle? REV it up!

  • The Mac FAQ

    Greetings,

...And thank you for your time!  Hoping for some help with my situation.  I recently switched from PC to a MacBook Pro.  Aside from the "unlearning curve" of processes simplifying, I have run into a very frustrating situation with Victoria 6 and Poser Pro 2014.  Delighted as I was that BOTH my online purchases were available to my new mac, I cannot seem to successfully get them working.  After getting V6 installed (the first time) I was able to use her minimally.  Posing and rendering, but no morphs.  Also, whe I would try to load a save file, she appears outlined, only to have her texture stay in the orignal pose while her outline is the only thing I can manipulate.  Attempts at rendering result in the original saved pose, regardless of changes made.

...Onto part two of my dilemma.  I have poured over the forums, reading post after post, not yet finding any solution to my situation.  Frustrated, I uninstalled and re-installed everything (Poser 2014, V6 & Genesis 2, and DSON importer as well).  NOW, I cannot even get V6 (or any other DSON item) to show up in my Poser runtime...

Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks much!

  • Eva 7 - just what we needed...

Well, as everyone knows, we all can scream "diversity" at DAZ all we want, but the reality of it is, the world wants whitewashed, mannequin-faced, busty women in sex-provoking lingerie. Nothing outside of that demand fits the fetish. Not only that, but in reality, if you really look at it from all directions, it is all really a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” predicament. I have an arsenal of stock characters in my library who are diverse in nationality. Every now and then when I use them in art, whether that be a fantasy epic or a real world setting, I’ll get critics who instigate me with stuff like “Why is this main heroine particularly Asian?” or “Why is this Native boy dressed and acting like a typical white guy?” , ultimately get accused of “misrepresenting them/stripping them of their cultural heritage”. But then I’ll have gang of white people and the same spectator’s eyes will roll.
Though, something I'd like to see happen, as inspired by Siliah's post, that I also would think would be a more helpful approach to "DAZversity" and other lamented niches would something like this:
    REAL WORLD

    • Mesomorphic Female/Male bases that all model and athletic idealist characters can be built off of (Ex: Victoria & Michael, Gia, Lilith).
    • Ectomorphic Female/Male bases that all petite and slim everyday characters can encompass (Ex: Stephanie & David, Teens).
    • Endomorphic Female/Male bases that all curvy and muscular hero characters can be supported by (Ex: Olympia & Gianni).
    • Southern Female/Male bases that all African, Haitian, Islander, etc. nationality characters can respect (Ex: Monique & Darius, African Faces).
    • Eastern Female/Male bases that all Asian, Indian, Arabian, etc. nationality characters can respect (Ex: Mei Lin & Lee, Asian Faces).
    • Western Female/Male bases that all Native, Hispanic, Mayan, etc. nationality characters can respect (Ex: Wachiwi & Aiyana, Native American Faces).

    FANTASY

    • Creature Female/Male bases that all horror and sci-fi monster characters can morphed (Ex: Freak & She Freak, Minotaur & Reptilian, Creature Creator).
    • Mythic Female/Male bases that all fantasy and mythical lore characters can be crafted on (Ninive, Giselle, Ysabeau, Belle & Brodie).

    STYLIZED

    • Anime Female/Male bases that all game and manga J-Pop characters can saturate (Ex: Aiko & Hiro, Keiko, Hitomi).
    • Toon Female/Male bases that all classic and modern studio characters can represent (Ex: Girl, Callie & Cory, 3D Universe).

And of course, all of which are adjustable by Youth and Aged add-on morphs.

  • Show Daz that Carrara users are a market worth supporting! How many Product Pages do you have?

After all, doesn't DUF stand for Daz Universal FileFormat?

Sorry, but if they want a Universal Format then they better find a way to NOT require Daz Studio installed to work with it!

That is nothing more than an extremely localized format with a fancy export feature.  I still don't like it and fail to see the advantages of something as cumbersome as Genocide over the last real stand-alone figure format they had  (the Gen 3 figures)  (even Gen 4 required Victoria/Michael 4 be installed in the same directory as any other Gen 4 figure or it failed miserably).

The concept sounds good on paper, but the implementation is nothing even remotely close to Universal and never will be until the figures will load in whatever program you want (like, say - Carrara?) without the need to go through some other program you don't want (like Daz Studio).

Of course, I don't even understand why anybody would ever actually want to render a human figure for anything, so take my opinions with a pillar of salt!

This time, it is seamless noisemaps for G3Female and Victoria 7! These are probably most useful for those who want to build their skins from scratch.

I've tried a search and haven't had much luck.

How does one increase the "shine" on Victoria 7 skin to simulate a wet skin? I have increased the glossy reflectivity but it doesn't seem to do anything.

I am not looking for water droplets or anything like that, just shinier skin.

    Thanks

  • Genesis clothing to G3F?

Anyone know if there has been word on whether or not something like this is in development?

I know this is the stage of the release cycle where a new Victoria is released (and we wait for months for a new Michael!! ugh!), and we (as users and customers) wait for a bit as developers craft utilities so that all the wonderful stuff in our libraries isn't rendered obsolete for this new figure, but I have to say, I'm getting tired of this cycle being played out again and again. I might be more willing to plunk down money on DAZs new figure (which at this rate, looks like it might be getting into Super Bowl numbering soon!) if they would offer an upgrade path sooner rather than later. I mean, I understand how a lot of the development for having older clothing compatible with a new figure seems to come most often from vendors rather than directly from DAZ, but it was kinda disappointing to see that G3F only offers support for G2F clothing at this time. Talk about feeling milked for my money...   sad

  • New to Daz3d, and trying to decide what models to get

Currently, in my Daz 3D interface, I can only find a model that is part of a dancer woman tutorial. I've searched for "Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials" on the Daz3D web site, but I keep getting taken to "Victoria 6 Starter Bundle." So I'm having a hard time figuring out how exactly I get these basic models you are referring to.

Starter essentials are part of DS, you won't see them in the store. You can download an install them either with Install Manager (DIM) or by going to "My Account > Product library" where you'll see all the DAZ products you own.

Part of what I am confused by, is, if the basic models that come for free with Daz3D can morph and change as much as any other models, then why would anyone ever buy other models?

The models which come free with DS are a base to build on. They already include a few morphs, and you can add other morphs and characters to have more options.

  • Bethany 7

I don't mind DAZ churning these figures out, because the decision to buy or not to buy is mine, but what I do find a little bit irritating is the numbering scheme. Now, Victoria 7, Michael 7, that makes sense, because they are the seventh generation of the figure. But there has never been an Eva 1 to 6, or a Bethany 1 to 6, or an Olympia 1 to 5 etc. etc.

It should really be: Eva G3, Bethany G3, Olympia G2 etc. because at least that would mean something!

But, this is the DAZiverse, where the laws of physics and common sense are suspended, ordinal numbers do not have precedents, and the dollar is King. In this latest roller coaster of seven-suffixed names I'm staying on the side. I got sucked into the six suffix, but now this really is too much. V7 I did buy, and I will buy M7, but that's it .... I keep telling myself devil

Also - what is it with these endless UV set variations? I thought the whole point of Genesis was a universal base figure that could be adapted by dialling in different character shaping morphs. Ah, but this is the DAZiverse, where ......

Well, I think the Eva 7 promo pics are very good at showing her body type, and for me that's the first priority.  The girl has some very long legs and she has a "look" that does appear in some percentage of the population at large.  I don't think any other characters to date have her body type.  Now, maybe there should be some non-skimpwear options available for her, but my runtime has closets of ladies' clothing; surely something would fit!  laugh

Will I buy her?  I still haven't bought Victoria 7.  Still thinking about this one.

  • break up some stereo-types?

For someone like me, it is confusing that there are people in DAZ's audience who get enraged about errors in armor or boot heels but don't notice that ethnic clothing (Lee's in particular) is wildly inaccurate.  Someone mentioned how glad they were to see a depiction of voodoon in the products; there have been products like those since victoria 3 and many remain in the store.

I for one didn't like Mei Lin or Lee's confusing products. I chose not to speak as I bought neither. China and Japan are not the same..but their packs made it seem so. I don't panic over fantasy blends of real world inspiration. Like I said earliler, boob windows don't make me flip out. But you can easily see how they were "mix blend generic Asian" and I wasn't a fan.

Darius showed that dark men are voodoo doctors. Even if that's not the case. If they would have accidentially mixed African, Creole and COMMON AMERICAN into Darius maybe I would not have been annoyed.

If as you say, most buyers are Eurpean or American, as I think as well, why not demonstrate that? Or do the people in Utah not see dark people in thier town? They should visit New York, Atlanta, the Black Danes or Black English. Or I could show them what I know of Black Indians. :) Wouldn not sell. Cause I can't do naked Black Indians. I have only a few rules *chuckles*

  • break up some stereo-types?

Design Anvil, I do want to convey to you that we do understand the dilemma that merchants have in the store partly dealing with a world market.  Realistically, Daz3d mirrors the digital world which is is rather monoculture and unfamiliar with how varied the world's population is.  I do think there are some common threads from everyone's comments that would be helpful for the creators to understand.  Daz3d's characters fit roughly into two categories: the stylized fantasy characters and the realistic generic characters.  Victoria and Moninique are the "girl next door" who might be a supermodel or superhero and Micheal, Lee, and Darius are just normal guys.  For most of these characters, the bundles include everyday clothes, swimwear, some fantasy and science fiction outfit and some hair.  They thus are sortt of the scaffold of scenes such as the knight who fights the dragon, the astronaut etc...  The stylized characters get stylized bundles which are heavily themed such as Aiko and her anime products.  Where it becomes troubling is when someone like Lee is treated like like Hiro with tons of fantasy ethnic gard which is strange considering Lee is probably the closest thing to a generic human male in the store (7 out of 10 people in the world live in Asia) and more people who look like Lee wear jeans, tee shirt and trainers than all the poeople in Europe put together.   It is a hard slog expaining that people of other races are not exotics.

That being said, most of the buying audience of Daz3d is probably in Europe and the US and buy ethnic characters as a novelty and the novelty factor gets pushed to 11. The question is how to move characters how merely differ by having different features and skin hue from being treated as a novelty (with the limited product selection and short shelf life associated with novelty; I don't expect tons on Nineve products in the coming year) and treat more like the generic figures they are.  One thing I would like is that creators use the characters as generics from time to time.  You have a superhero costume, no reason that Monique can't model it as well as Victoria.

I realize there has been a running assumption that you are not from America and I just checked....so I give you this story....  There is the popular doll, Barbie, made by Mattel, a US toy company.... In the sixties by the middle of the civil rights movement, there was clamor a doll for black girls.  Mattel created Christie, Barbie's friend.  Christie languished because she was merely an accesory to Barbie and not an equal.  Eventually, Mattel figured out that you could make Barbie and Ken in different ethnicies and a star was born.  So, think of Darius as another flavor of Michael and Monique as another flavor of Victoria.
