  • Transfer Data from G9 to New Figure Mesh

Are there specific settings to get the transfer utility to work?  All youtube tutorials for geografting just show them using the default settings, but when I do that, the new head doesn't move with the G9 character.  It moves on it's own as if it's been rigged, but won't follow the g9 figure.  Thoughts?

As I promised (threatened?) in the freebies discussion a couple weeks ago, I cyberpunked up https://www.daz3d.com/the-sheriff outfit with https://www.daz3d.com/cybernetics-iray-shaders. I also tried out https://www.daz3d.com/absinthe-for-genesis-8-female dialed down as @SaphireBlue suggested. Environment  https://www.daz3d.com/dystopian-dining-room.

I couldn't find Absinthe's eyebrows in the scene to remove & replace them. I have no idea why. I completely expanded the character and only found eyelashes. I tried in both DS4.23 & DS2025 beta.

And I think I went overboard on the glowing neon shaders. Well, I will fix that when I get a replacement for my laptop.

miladyderyni That looks great! The emissive textures work nice.

Absinthe's brows are part of her face texture, not separate elements. I used the brow remover script to remove them, then replaced them with one of the brows from one of chevybabe's beautiful brows sets.

Thanks. I wishlisted the script, hopefully it's still on sale when I get paid this week. :) I didn't realize some brows were part of the skin texture on G8. Come to think of it the original Absinthe brows look better with the character morph dialed down to about 50%. I might try a close up render when I get another computer.

I am glad you like how the shaders came out. For some reason I could not find the intensity slider in the DS2025 beta. I had all the other emission sliders. No idea what was up with that, as I had it when I worked on the piece in DS4.23.

  • Corrective morph problem.

Posing the Genesis 9 figures has been a nightmare for me. It doesn't matter what custom character I use, even just the base figure; I was getting all these deformities. Some were very hard to see, and some were so bad that the pose was unusable. I read on another post, some other people were having the same problem because a character from EM3D Charmaine was forcing a corrective morph on any character you use. Sure enough, when I went into the hidden properties to see what was currently being used, the morph from EM3D was deforming the shin. Easy enough to fix if you know what you are looking for. My problem is that it was not the only one. I had 5 other corrective morphs from 5 different vendors, all putting these morphs on. Examining the hidden properties revealed a vast list of morphs being applied by a variety of vendors. Is there a way to stop these morphs from being applied by other vendors when I don't want them to? Some are not even noticeable, but when you start stacking them, it just makes everything problematic.

Dforce animation, the best way I found but it takes a lot of drive space

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/428856/sagan-a-daz-studio-to-blender-alembic-exporter

    use the obj series option

    import sequenced obj by DCG

obviously you need the plugin installed

Thanks. Would you say the same without dforce? I see lamh has several options. Just trying to waste less time on trial and error.

    pointless for things not Dfrorce

LAMH a different thing entirely, the Catalyzer only loads as obj on render AFAIK and massive files so doubt doable

you can convert to mesh on a Tposed character and try rigging it but again thats a massive file and gets distortion

using Carrara hair with any length and density map images is the best option

also for Dforce, if doing short animations https://www.daz3d.com/dforce2morph is quite good but you need to save a morph for each pose and have to keyframe them so zero other frames

  • looking for a sweater or shirt tied around the waist for G8M

Nice Find Elor! I have that set and didn't know it had that morph.  I will need to add some TAGS to those clothes to make them easier to find when I'm looking for a "Tied Flannel" or "Tied Sweater"

Also Frank, with so few options for this style I also highly recommend making a "Mirrored" version of them, to add just a few more options. (Riversoft Mirror Geometry very handy for that if you don't want to do it manually)

There is a morph in this addon for Everyday 2 for G8F to have it around the hip. I didn't try it on G8M (it does require the G8F version of Everyday 2 as far as I can tell) but you get access to all textures for Everyday 2 with it.

Not today's outfit but bought on the 19th and installed and tested today and nearly returned for a refund. The skirt is unusable. It's not dforce, won't fit properly when figure is posed even when smoothing applied and amped. I tried dforcing it using Matew's scripts and all it did was jam up DS till I forced close, twice. So I deleted it from runtime and data. The only reason I didn't return the product was there was a bikini, bag, jandals, earrings and a waist chain in the outfit and they fit ok. I did change the bag to parent to the left hand instead of shoulder and made a morph to move the handles together.

Crappy forum. I wrote a long text and then it just cleared it when posted.

    I don't have it.

My guess is it is the belt and knot that is causing problems.

If it has its own surface zone set Dynamic Strength to 0.

If not add a dForce weightmap node. Select all and set weight to 0. And then select all the skirt below the belt, and set that to 1. And then smooth.

Another method is to set self collision to off, but that means it can pass through itself and might not be desired.

Thank you, Felis, I'm willing to give it another go after reading that. But tomorrow. If I reinstall it and try again tonight and it fails I may just burst my boiler ;)

And yes, very crappy forum...I'm trying to remember to copy everything I write before I push the post button.

I actually found a use for my Fluffy morph! I applied it full strength to the right side and a little bit to the left side. The I used a timeline simulation on the hair, moving the pillow up into position. Now she has reasonably believable bed head. • (SOLVED) Absolute parameters value change

If you want to tweak the Transforms after rigging / saving the figure asset,  and make the adjustment as Default..., the quickest way (as most of the PAs do for such a fixing...) is to :

    1)  After tweaking the transforms, as you did to the crab by setting its Y Translate to 10, export it to OBJ with Base resolution;

    2) Zero Y Translate, import OBJ to create a morph named as "Fix Base". Dial it.

    3) Adjust Rigging to Shape, the rigging will follow.  ERC Freeze on "Fix Base" property, set it as Hidden. Resave Figure Asset of the crab.

Edit: If you need to frequently do such adjustments, always import OBJ to overwrite the "Fix Base" property  (with options in MLP : Reverse Deformations : Yes; Overwrite Exsiting: Delta Only), and repeat the above step  3).

  • Hair products - simple explanation needed

fibermesh is just polygonal hair. It is made of polygons... but the polygons are tubes. So it can morph just like any other geometry if the vendor decided they would make it do that.  Fibermesh usually is very demanding on your PC because it requires a lot of geometry to make many small fine tubes.  Fibermesh can be realistic, sure, but it is outdated technology. Generally it does not look more realistic than the best strand based hair or hair cards, because fibermesh would often be made with older tech.

Another type of polygonal hair could be hair cards. As described by other poster above.  Hair cards are usually the lowest poly, and often seen in games too because they are lighter. They can look very realistic despite being low poly.

Strand based hair is the best option we have in my opinion because it is just single lines of vertices, not thick polygonal tubes.  Nowadays strand-based hair can emulate a perfectly smooth tube of infinite polygons in iray because we now have the iray curves implemented a few years ago.

In my opinion the hair typography is like so (only two types)

    1. Polygonal/mesh hair: fibermesh, hair cards
    2. Strand-based hair: SBH, polyline, curves, splines etc

Both types can be dforced and morphed.

You can color any of them in Surfaces tab...

You cannot de facto change length easily for any of them, but you would need to review the product description of each product because maybe the creator will have allowed you to change length by the way they set up morphs or they way they set up opacity maps/shaders.  Export them out of Daz to another software if you insist on changing some aspect that you cant change in Daz.

  • [SOLVED] Marvelous Designer to DAZ - Transfer Utility - Shrinking problem

    Leana said:

Ok so it uses a morph.

If your item is created for a morphed version of the figure, then you need to run the transfer utility using that version of the figure as the source (which is what you're doing) and make sure you have the "Reverse Source Shape from Target" box checked, and "item shape: current" in the source parameters.

That way DS knows what modified shape it was made for and can "undo" those modifications to make it fit the base figure.

I wish I'd read this two days ago!  Very helpful!  Thanksyou!

...I often do that for fitting older hair content to G3/G8.as that preserves the morph and style bones. Adding a bit of smoothing can help with difficult fits.

  • The 'Eat Your Food and Like It' Complaint Thread

Complaint:  My bank changed its rules:  I've had lots of banks over my lifetime, everything from the Riggs Bank in Washington, DC (known as the bank that financed the purchase of Alaska in 1868), to the modern Bank of America (known for various scandals), to various regional banks in Florida that kept getting bought out by bigger conglomerates, and most recently a small regional bank in western NY State.  I've been very happy with this little bank.  No monthy fee on my checking account, the tellers all know me, and it's convenient to the various places I manage to get to using the local ancient person's bus.  I hated the big national banks, they had fees for everything and money evaporated spontaneously, but have been very happy with my current little bank until recently.  They decided that I now need to keep a minimum balance in my checking account.  Not just $20, or $50, but a whopping $500.  Otherwise they would charge me $4.50 per month if even for a minute I dipped below the $500 minimum.  Grrrrr....angry  Yeah, yeah, it's possible, I could (and did) just transfer a good sized chunk of my savings account into checking but that makes it too easy to forget, and end up spending money that really should have been moderately inaccesable to my spending whims.  I keep a spreadsheet accurate to the penney and never overdraft (a $50 feefrown), so running the checking account total down to even $10 or $20 doesn't scare me, I'd still know that I was OK.  And I've now even added a line that accounts for the $4.50 fee when necessary, but I would rather see that $500 sitting in my savings account generating interest instead of in the checking account where it is tempting me to overspend.no  A looming $20 balance scares me into frugality more than a $520 balance does.sad  And hey!  $4.50 is almost enough to do laundry or a little more than two rides on the bus.

Incidentally, the bottom line on my spreadsheet is "Checking Balance If All Credit Cards Paid Off" I try to keep that a positive number.enlightened I've had lots of problems with credit over my life.  Been there done that, burned the T-shirt.cheeky  Or in the words of Mr. Horse: No sir, didn't like it!  Back when I was making big money if I had kept careful track of my money as carefully as I do now, I wouldn't have to be keeping as careful track of my money as I do now.  Lessons learned too late.blush  However, I did have a lot of fun with that money, and lots of stories to reminisce over .devil

Thank you to everyone who helpd figure out why I couldn't upload the zip files. I created a free Dropbox account to share these files. I hope it works

Vilola Hair Left Morph Open the zip file and copy the barbult folder and its contents into the data\Hair Studio\HS Viola Hair G9\HS Viola Hair L G9\Morphs folder in your Content Library. You will find the Fluffy morph in Actor/Adjust when the HS Viola Hair L G9 object is selected in the Scene pane.

Viola Hair Right Morph  Open the zip file and copy the barbult folder and its contents into the data\Hair Studio\HS Viola Hair G9\HS Viola Hair R G9\Morphs folder in your Content Library. You will find the Fluffy morph in Actor/Adjust when the HS Viola Hair R G9 object is selected in the Scene pane. This zip file also contains the previously shared Move Away From Eye morph. If you already have that installed, you can overwrite it or skip it.

I tried again. The failure scenario changed. This time it said Uploading for a few seconds and then that went away. I think felis is probably on the right track. The files are probably too big. So. I'll just try attaching a smaller file, a render or two here, to see if that works. OK that works, so file size is probably the problem.

The attached renders use by new left and right Fluffy morphs and the right Move Away From Eye morph.

    1. No morphs
    2. Away From Eye 100% Fluffy 25%
    3. Away From Eye 100% Fluffy 50%
    4. Away From Eye 100% Fluffy 100%

100% Fluffy is pretty wild, but a lower value is not bad. I don't know if they are useful to anyone, but since I made them, I thought I'd share them. I'll find some other place to upload them and share a link.
