Thanks for getting back. First, I did a little digging and found an older post saying you can't select all in Daz Central because it doesn't have one. I did see your response with the link for DAZ IM.

I tired to start using IM but my new computer keeps going to sleep after a while of downloading and halting the project. I'm going to have to talk to tech support about that.|

I'm not following much of what you asked. What I did was transfer the DAZ 3D folder from the Documents folder. I thought there might be more I need to transfer but I don't know what and where to find them. Is there a post in the permanent posting in Daz Studio Discussion that covers this?

just for the record, i've never used 'Connect the application', but i figured maybe i was using 'Connect the service', as DS sometimes echoes something about receiving data from Connect. but i never installed Connect.

You are talking about DAZ Central - DAZ Connect is the one inside DS and doesn't require any installation, the only thing it needs is the user logging in to DS.

If you do not have any folders named "1_XXXXX", you have dodged the bullet so far.

Good to hear that the SASE problem was solved.

Ok, the first problem is having "I:\DAZ_3D\Applications\Data\Daz 3D\My Daz 3D Library" specified under all three "Daz Connect Data", DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats" as that makes any and all DAZ Connect installation "nested" directories, which DS does not like - DAZ Connect does not use the same locations for content installations as DIM/DAZ Central/Manual installations do.

To get some kind of idea, how much content you have installed by DAZ Connect, navigate to "I:\DAZ_3D\Applications\Data\Daz 3D\My Daz 3D Library\Data\Cache\" How many folders do you have there named "1_XXXXX"? (XXXXX is the SKU number of the products)

SKU for Welda is 78953 and the name of the folder should be "1_78953" if it was installed with DAZ Connect.

  • "File does not exist..." when i'm looking right at it.

Letting DS log in is the most likely culprit, as the only reason for logging in is to use DAZ Connect inside DS to update and install content.

If one uses external installers (DIM/DAZ Central/manual installation), the user does him/herself a huge favor and saves oneself from a lot of problems by never logging in to DS.

As you are letting DS to log in, you probably have that product installed into two separate locations, and the one installed by DAZ Connect within DS is corrupted (not uncommon with DAZ Connect installed content)

    1. Set your Startup settings as in the attached sample.

    2. Show us the content directories specified in Content Directory Manager, and we can tell you where to look for the DAZ Connect installed content (expand all the trees as in the attached pic.).

In what way did it not work to copy things over? For Install Manager or Daz Central to see installed content you need the Manifests folder from the old machine; for the database-driven views (everything except the ... Formats containers in the Content Library, and not the Daz Connect container within those) you need the database from the old machine or to reimport the metadata (having exported the userdata on the old machine if you want your own files to be shown in those views).

I got a new computer and installed Daz Studio into it. Since I made a lot of new modles, poses, objects, etc., I thought I could just copy the Daz 3D file from the old computer's Document folder into the new one. Nope, that didn't work in a LOT of cases. I now have Daz Central for downloading but I have to click each and every button for each file. I have somewhere over 2000, maybe 3000 files. That's WAY too many to click one at a time. Is there a way in Daz Central to tell it just to download all?

so tought theres nothing then i download genesis 8 free from dazcentral and yes it downloads but dont no where it is installed

i opened daz studio look in the maps and found nothing ...

i used daz 4.15 for several years on older pc and now how daz works but now im stuck

dont know what to do ..very annoying

That sounds like a mismatch between the paths used by Daz Central and the paths used by Daz Studio. You could try download thiss cript, using the link above the code, and dragging it into the Daz Studio Viewport - if it is a mismatch that should add the missing paths http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/install_manager_config_import/start

i did what you said but it didnt help.. still nothing in the maps what work.. i installed a new item in dazcentral en it wont open and nothing in the maps to ...

looks a bit like i get daz studio upgrade instead of a fresh new instalation.. dont know ... im so dissapointed  as i wanted to try a rendering with my new pc ... for now cant do nothing with daz studio 4.20..

oke i got something now... dazcentral stored the files in the local c drive ... i moved the files to my documents daz3d map and added a new path to it in daz studio ...

its weird that daz not have a standard map that match with where  dazcental put the files..  i solved it  so hope its helpfull other users with the same problem .

  • Daz Central and MacOS

I have three Mac computers. An older iMac (2017) which DAZ CENTRAL will open, but freeze if I even make the slightest interaction. Have to force quit.

I also have a MacBook Pro. Which DAZ CENTRAL will open, but freeze if I even make the slightest interaction. Have to force quite that too.

Just got a brand new Mac Studio this week. Which DAZ CENTRAL will open.... freeze... and you guessed it... I have to force quite the program.

Three different Macs have the exact same issue? Anyone else using Mac and having issues with DAZ CENTRAL?

  • Daz Studio and Linux

Hi there! Just thought I'd report on my own findings and what I'm doing.

I'm using KDE Neon 5.24.5, which is currently still based on Ubuntu 20.04. I have a MSI Stealth GS65 with a GeForce RTX 2060. The system is currently configured to run Xorg primarily on the NVidia GPU. I am using Bottles installed via Flatpak to run DAZ Studio. I installed it with the Caffe 7.7 runner in a bottle made as an application environment, and used Daz Central to install it. It complained about something failing to install, but Studio ran just fine. Unlike when I tried to install it via bare Wine, dForce was working out of the box, and there were no wonky fonts.

GPU Iray rendering was a bit of a struggle, but this thread helped me get it up and running! 3Delight was somehow even slower than CPU-only Iray, so I really wanted to get Iray working. The first stumbling block was that CUDA was not working in the bottle, tested with CUDA-Z. There is a DLSS switch in the bottle preferences that installs dxvk-nvapi, which is the first step to making it work. CUDA-Z started seeing it, but Studio did not. I also installed PhysX via the components tab, but I am not sure I actually needed it. Because what made it work was the nvidia-libs package! Thank you so much for maintaining that, because now I have Iray and it's fast and gorgeous!

There are a lot of advantages to running Studio on Linux. For one, if you have a BTRFS file system, you can take advantage of transparent compression and deduplication. Zstandard is just *so* much better than gzip used by Studio. If you have transparent compression enabled on your filesystem or the folder where your library is, you can just decompress any given gzipped file and instantly save space. I have a POSIX sh script that recursively finds and decompresses all gzipped files in a folder (requires zcat and sponge from moreutils). You can also use deduplication; run `duperemove -b 4k -hrd` on all your library folders periodically. Between those two things, I have 38GB of content stored within 20GB!

Case-sensitivity will bite you on Linux when manually installing stuff; some content creators are inconsistent with their casing. I want to write another script to clean up that sort of situation. And I also want to write a script that helps with moving content between different library folders (if it doesn't already exist anywhere within DAZ, that is!)
But overall, DAZ Studio has been a positive experience on Linux this way. Thanks to all the community members who contribute to making that happen.

  • Daz Studio library split across two drives?

    john_antkowiak said:

I had a feeling someone knew a better way! Thank you both. There was a reason I mentioned the install method, and that's because I was considering a different way to split the files and therefore Daz Central would screw it up for me going forward; but it looks like the issue I was thinking about would be moot if I change my approach. I like it. Will begin soon. Have a great evening!

    john_antkowiak said:

I've gotten to the point where I need to consider splitting this library too. But I don't use Smart Content or Daz Central. Manual installs all the way for me so I always know exactly where to find everything. So now I'm thinking of dividing the library by putting all the people-centric items on one drive, and the places/props/presets on another, connecting the drives through the Content Directory Manager as @RichardHaseltine suggested. But I haven't actually started doing this yet; I was hoping to find someone who has tried this method already who can explain why they advise against it or whether it's workable as long as I don't forget to do something I'm not thinking about. Or something. lol...
Has anyone ever done this successfully?

FWIW, I use DIM - but the install method doesn't matter. The bulk of my content is in D:/S4stuff/gen5 (historical leftover from just getting into Genesis); I have billboards and shaders in G:/shaders and HDRI products in F:/HDRI - all 2 TB ssd drives. These are all defined to Studio as both DAZ Studio Format and Poser format directories. In addition, all my tutorials are in E:/tutorials - Studio doesn't need to know about these.

I'm about to install a 4 TB ssd to replace the current D: drive as it only has 172 GB free. These are all internal drives. I also have five 4 TB and two 2 TB external usb drives for backups and my working copy of my DIM download directory (the master copy is on an external 4 TB ssd on my laptop).

If you use DAZ Central, DAZ Installation Manager (DIM) or manual installation with your products, you do not need (do not want) to log in to DAZ Studio.

Set the start-up options in DS as in the attachment.

Logging in to DS, is only necessary if your primary (only) method of installing content is DAZ Connect within DS, otherwise logging in just creates problems.

Why do you think, you cannot use 'Smart' Content without logging in?

    • I was not aware this was not required? but I think its because up-till now I did not know managing the asset installation from 2-3 places would cause an issue as everytime it looks like I'm just working in the same Folder, no?

I see two problems with your content libraries,
    - Not a good idea to have ones content library on OneDrive, in principle it does work but slowly.
    - You have specified the same path for DAZ Connect installed content and for DIM/DAZ Central/Manual installation, which may be the main cause for your problem, as that makes DAZ Connect installed content "nested" under "DAZ Studio Formats"

    • OneDrive is only for my Scene files - theres no assest installing/installed there from the size of the top level folder laugh
    • I have set DAZ Connect to "D:\DAZ_3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\Content Database"
      • I noticed this created another Data folder and is now downloading all my assets again laugh -- Can I just move my contents in "D:\DAZ_3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\data" to the new \data\

You are not working with the same folder, as DAZ Connect does not save the files in same folder structure as DIM/DAZ Central/Manual installation does.
Where DIM/DAZ Connect/Manual installation use the specified root of the content directory as the base for the installed files, DAZ Connect adds Data\Cloud\1_XXXXX\ to the path and uses that as the base of installation (XXXXX is the SKU number of the product)

You are still logging in to DS... Stop doing that, you are only making problems for yourself by logging in.
In principle, you can move the files from one content directory to another, but as you have used the same path for DAZ Connect, DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats, the problem is in not moving the wrong files.

Set your startup options as in the attachment, put the original path back to DAZ Connect Data, close DS and start it up again without (ever again) logging in.
Go to the 'Smart' Content, select everything and choose uninstall - This will uninstall only the DAZ Connect installed files and is the first step in getting your content library fixed.
