  • NEW! Novica & Invited Guest Contributors Tips & Product Reviews Pt 6

This is Backyard Retreat   which I think would be cool to link to Green Backyard Garden.  Sasha for Victoria 7 is the gal and one thing I noticed was the Expressions (under Actor in Parameters) work very well on her. You know how some can look dorky? The ones I tested were pretty natural.  It's Mane Hair and City Chic clothing.

The clothing is for Genesis 2 and easily fit Genesis 3, and the hair is for V4 and Genesis 2 and also easily fit. Please note, from now on, with the ease of posting links, I am NOT going to be writing out these ridiculously long titles anymore. If you like the product, there's the link, you'll see the lengthy title. If it's for a different generation I will tell you, aka, like I did for this one.

Invited Guest Contributors, feel free to do the same thing. With these "For Genesis 2 Female(s) stuff then Victoria 4, and Genesis 3 Female(s), enough is enough. Provide the main part of the product (the most easily identifiable) and that's good enough (with the link of course.)

This render went for seven hours because I wanted a good one. Those are Macleans  Everyday Drinks and they are AWESOME with Iray, you don't do a thing except render!

  • DAZ to Poser Pro?

DSON is a Daz Studio product that will export Daz only models (like Genesis) for use in Poser. You can get it here: http://www.daz3d.com/dson-importer

BTW: I also user PoserPro 2010 (I have the latest version, but am not yet using it). It is a very good program and I wouldn't say it has a "better" renderer, but it definitely is different and -- as such -- the images it produces do look a little different from Daz Studio.

One of the main things I use it for is to set up content that has been created for Michael 4 and Victoria 4. Sometimes I get a free outfit or prop and, although Daz Studio will load it, it doesn't do it perfectly. For example, I recently set up a Dr. Doom character for M4 that I downloaded from Sharecg.com. Cool looking outfit with the mask, armor, etc. But in Daz Studio I couldn't get the mask to load properly to his face. It loaded at about 90 degrees and it tried to conform to his head, so I couldn't adjust it manually. It gave me fits for about an hour until I popped it all into Poser and it loaded instantly without any problems. I even saved the file and then opened it in Daz Studio and -- because everything had already been placed correctly -- I didn't have any more problems. I also used it to quickly set up an Apollo Maximus figure and Poser had no problem parenting the guns to his hands (Daz Studio did have problems -- the guns would appear about a "foot" from his hand and it was too troublesom to move them around because, once parented to his hands, the normal x-y-z transform dials didn't work).

Additionally, Poser has a sketch renderer (the newest one has a cartoon renderer, which is different from the TOON renderer). It also has a built-in hair and dynamic cloth simulator.

I also use it for other scenes and certain types of renders (wish I could be more specific, but it's an artsy thing -- sometimes I just want the way things look in Poser, so I use it). I also think it's more stable than Daz Studio (no offense, guys!). I can load larger scenes and zip around inside of them without my system creaking to a veritable crawl. Finally, though, keep in mind that Genesis is a Daz product and it works best with Daz Studio. If you want to leverage a lot of older content, Poser Pro is a great investment. If you've sunk a ton into Genesis figures, you might find that D|S is the way to go.

BTW: There is a low-cost version of Poser you might want to look at, if you just want to explore the UI and get a feel for the program: http://store.smithmicro.com/productdetails.aspx?id=17194

Good luck, and poke around the forums for more on DSON. I'm pretty sure it's been covered before in detail.

  • Questions about skins

I see lots of hairs for V4 but I never download because I feel like they won't work, I didn't buy any Victoria

  • Victoria

So I see a huge amount of extra product items for the Victoria model.  If I was interested in purchasing Victoria what would be my best choice (there are more than several, although most of the things I see are for the V4?) Cost is also a factor since I am very very new to this I don't feel able to spend hundreds of dollars on things just yet.  Any help or ideas would be appreciated!

  • I'm interested in Sunny's Tails, but as we can't return, then I'm reluctant to buy.

    http://www.daz3d.com/sunny-s-tails-for-genesis-3-female-s-genesis-2-female-s-and-victoria-4

Anyone able to post a picture of the morphs as it is somewhat ambiguous what the 'lots of movement morphs' actually are; the formatting makes it hard to read. It doesn't look lots to me. This excellent product by EmmaAndJordi (http://www.daz3d.com/sela-hair-for-genesis-3-female-s) had what I would call lots.

If we could return, I'd have bought it knowing I could.

If Daz were to compare what I return in relation to what I buy, I'd be surprised if it was above 1%; yet during this promo, there has been three items I might have bought knowing I could return 'em... But I haven't as I can't.

  • Show Daz that Carrara users are a market worth supporting! How many Product Pages do you have?

I pretty much have gone completely genesis and genesis 2.  That doesn't mean that I don't still use my legacy content for the older figures or their shapes.  I have the clones to convert legacy content for use with genesis and genesis 2.  I also have the clone morphs to make genesis and genesis 2 look like the legacy figures.  Now, even if I intend to use Aiko3 or The Freak or Victoria 4 or David 3 or whatver, I still end up using Genesis or Genesis 2.  I found that I can just ignore the protected topology warning for the genesis 2 "actor" level.

Just my personal experiences and preferences.  Others report problems that I don't experience.

  • Problem With Textures Between Models

Perhaps I can ask this question here.

I'm having trouble getting some of my Genesis textures to load to Genesis 2, male or female.  Some load, and some don't.  I've checked the UV's and even set them to Victoria or Michael 5.  Is there something else I'm missing?

I think some of the older Genesis materials were saved as DSA files. Genesis 2 requires DUF format material presets. What you can do is apply the preset to Genesis. Then save it as a new material preset(which will be DUF). Use this new preset on Genesis 2. This is the same idea for getting V4/M4 materials onto Genesis 2 as well. Assuming you have the UV's for those on Genesis 2.

There was some new information added to how DUF presets are saved IIRC, so the old DSA format just wasn't good enough.

  • Very DARK SKIN Texture - WHO & WHERE???

I am going to have to figure out the skin coloring. I have MANY Ethnic (black) characters and I need a GOOD one for V7 -(G3)- but - I don't know how V4's Marie was fit to V7 - that is the issue. If I can make that happen, I may be able to make the coloring and features.

There is a tutorial for how to transfer your textures to V7, but you need some patience...

    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/59665/tutorial-converting-textures-from-gen2-to-gen3/p1

There are 2 black skins for V7 here in the store, and one elsewhere. I got Kelly For V7 and I find her to be a good skin. While not very dark, that is pretty easy to adjust, but she's got a legit dark skin starting point and appropriate skin features. I still love V4 Marie though..but I have used her too much...

    http://www.daz3d.com/kelly-for-victoria-7

ALso there is but it's still on my wishlist for now since I mostly use G2F still.

    http://www.daz3d.com/ej-etta-for-genesis-3-female-s

There is also a merchant resource for G3F dark skins, but unless you want to spend a lot of time manipulating it, may not be for you.

yep, thanks sweet, I have them both! Jumped on them immediately. So I will be looking oer that tutorial as well in texture transferring. Big thanks!

    Glad I could help :)

  • Changing Genesis face features

If I download a freebie that requires Victoria 4.2 morphs and face, and i dont have it, I cant even use the textures in my daz?

V4 textures can be used on the Base Genesis (original) by changing the setting in the Surfaces pane under UV Mapping.   Genesis is UV Mapped to take skins from M4, V4 and Kids 4.

  • Changing Genesis face features

She should have both sliders and a character file.

The character files are in Peopel > Genesis 2 Female > Characters > Shizuka in the Content Library, she does not have any metadata, so she won't show in Smart Content.  The sliders are in Parameters > VRXCreations.

Oh! Thank you! :D It's so hard to find the things I install...

  • Teen Josie 7

    Look what I found!

In the PJs for Genesis 3 Female(s) by Nikisatez, the following FBMS included are:

    Supported Genesis 3 Shapes

    • Bethany 7
    • Eva 7
    • Karen 7
    • Victoria 7
    • Teen Josie 7

So what do you guys think? Looks like we might see a first returning figure soon. I just hope she will have a more realistic look than Josie 6 who really is way too doll-like.

  • Rev up discount

you only get 1 rev a day tho, don't you? So if you buy something in the morning, then buy something in the afternoon, you only get the 1 rev for both purchases?

Am I going mad?  I bought 'DG Up Close - Portrait Studio Poses for Genesis 3 Female(s) and Victoria 7' earlier today (Sept 7), as it was in the New Featured section.  Now it's not there (same day) and I haven't earned a rev-up.  I'm sure it was there, I would never have soughit it out otherwise.  I'm going to lie down in a dark room, this is all too much for me...

It is still there - uncheck Hide Products I Own and you should see it. It should earn a Rev, if not please open a support ticket for Sales.

  • Very DARK SKIN Texture - WHO & WHERE???

    Hi,

I didn't use that Marie for Monique. I used Elite Marie for V4 :) her texture is on the left image in first post, the small middle on on the right side.

    http://www.daz3d.com/v4-elite-texture-marie

For the tribal one in the middle, I just recolored Monique in Photo-Paint to a dark, almost black color (around 25, 21, 21 the skin itself) and painted on it the tribal signs. I used diffuse color 206, 206, 206, spec 1 is 164, 185, 196 and spec 2 is 195, 210, 200.

The second image - I used the original Monique skin, but I changed the diffuse color in DS from white to a darker grey and changed the translucency color to a salmon-like color.

and here is another example for Dark Skin - I know this is not exactly real, but if I have no dark skin, I create one playing with diffuse color and translucency color. Not perfect, not too realistic, but better than nothing :) And you can play with the colors, because dark skins have so many beautiful tones.

This one below is for Genesis 3 Female - Victoria 7 skin (Iray) playing with translucency color (middle dark brown) and strong value.

Notes taken for upcoming character ;)

As long as you're taking notes ... if you plan to use that method for an upcoming G3 character you plan to sell, if it's meant to be realistic, you might want to check out Kickair's Palm and Sole Masks at ShareCG. Having darker palms and soles looks completely unrealistic.

I have a resource kit to use for both G2 and G3F, but it will come in handy later, as I don't expect to get more than two or *maybe* three characters out of each kit. Picking up Mudbox next month so I can 3D paint the diffuse textures instead.

Both of the ones I have have the lighter skin on the palms. One of the things I've noticed is you can have lighter-skinned black people that are considerably more even from the backs of the hands to the palms (my doctor's lead nurse is like that.)
