Daz Central breaks my databases
Ask first?
Anyway, to answer the OP's first question: DAZ Central is the newer app, but it is meant for beginners who do not want to, or cannot, tinker with all the customization that can be done with DIM. You will be much happier staying with DIM.
Daz Central breaks my databasesI have that set - no issues with the install. Everything installed with Install Manager. Two images, because I have so much installed.
ETA - Like barbult, I'm wondering where the top level 'default' went - all the metadata DAZ provides is set up to install these cataegories under default. Unless this is a function of Central I didn't notice the day I played with it and found it too limiting for my needs.
Daz Central breaks my databasesI'm sorry. I'm not opening a ticket for this. Don't take this the wrong way but... It took me a week to fix it, I don't want to use even more time documenting, explaining, and having to re-explain it. It's just more aggrevation that I don't need.
You have no idea how much time I waste trying to trouble shoot and resolve issues that shouldn't be happening in the first place. Then spending weeks trying to ferry a ticket to completion is just adding insult to injury.
To answer the specific questions you asked:
I don't use Connect or Central. I use DIM and nothing else.
DIM is up to date. The packages in DIM are up to date.If the DIM package is broken, I would expect that the Connect / Central package probably has the same problem.
Daz Central breaks my databasesMy databases and Smart Content has broken three times in the past week. Twice I have uninstalled all products through DIM and reinstalled them. This usually fixes it.
Yesterday I installed another hundred or two products. Started DS and my Smart Content is broken again.
I don't use Central, my DS isn't online, and my log on information isn't entered into DS.
If this is related to what you are experiencing, there may be more going on than just Central.
Daz Central breaks my databasesDaz Central should respect the Install Manager directory settings - and show Managed By Install Manager in its settings dialogue - so unless soemthing is going wrong with the settings in DIM that is surprising. Are you using just the single, default profile in DIM or have you added and are you using a second profile?
Daz Central breaks my databasesThis is the second time I've tried to use Daz Central instead of Install Manager (the new app must be better, right?). Every time I try it my content directories get messed up, it breaks PostgreSQL, and my Smart Content tab (CMS) shows a fraction of my products and they are all grayed out.
I just spent an hour removing it and fixing Daz. Why make such a broken product?
Re-rigging a freebie propThank you for all the suggestions, particularly those reminding of what morphs can and cannot do.
I decided to go back to basics, by breaking the model apart in Hexagon, then sending it back to Daz, and organising the components into groups. I have not added rigging yet, but using xtrans, xrot, etc, I can now raise, rotate and pitch the platform. I can also swing each leg in and out, and telecope them individually (each leg has four segments, something I forgot to mention in the OP). The leg braces need positioning by trial and error, but I can now produce a configuration which 'looks right'. However, I'm still a long way from making this into a simple prop which can be posed elegantly. Also, some things don't work so well, and I'd be grateful for thoughts on how to address any of them. I've posted a new pic to show where I've got to.
1) Seen from above, each pair of legs is separated by an angle of 120 degrees, so only one leg can align with one of Daz's orthogonal axes. The other two legs must be positioned using xrot and zrot in some combination, and I don't see a way to do this with a single morph.
2) Each leg has a brace (or arm) coupled to a ring on the central column. As the legs open and close, the ring should rise or fall, because leg, brace and central pole form a triangle, with two sides (leg and brace) having fixed lengths.
3) In the real world, the three legs would open and close in synchrony, but I have no idea how a single control can make that happen. I don't see a way to ensure that all 3 legs move together, or that the ring rises and falls to reflect the positions of the legs.
Incidentally, if I make more progress, what would be the rules, ethics and/or conventions of sharing the results here?

don't ever use DAZ central and Connect if you use Carrara

it is actually in the starter essentials for each base figure
where does the files got stores? Checked my Daz Libary, Runtime and so on but nothing found. The only config files for Mimic was stored in the program files for Carrara itself.
A search in the libary did the trick, found dmc's for Skye, Gen2 and Gen3, thanks! :)

look in your library under general / Mimic Configuration files
most of them are there, all the genesis have their own separate ones, 1,2 3, 8, 8.1
Maybe i should download the latest version, don't know how old mine is but the latest figure is V4.
Edit:
Stupid question but where can i get the newest Version? DIM doesn't seem to work when i try to login, Daz Central won't show any Carrara related stuff in my Libary.
Can't download the latest Version of Mimic manually.Edit 2:
updating DIM did worked.

not to sound like a broken record, but its 2C and snowing lightly..
...same here on the foirst part (fortunatly no frozen water form the sky here....I hope).
Today was to be the start of a 10 day stretch of even nicer weather through next weekend, including a several consecutive of days in the 70s (two near 80°). However as hasb een usual this year so far, rain has crept back into the extended forecast and highs on a few of the days have been modified downward.. Been pretty much cloudy all day today and barely made it to 60 (was supposed to be in the mid to upper 60s with the clouds clearing off byafternoon)..
Really weary of getting one nice day and then back to March like weather for the next 4 or 5.and we're only a month away from the start of Summer. Crikey Milwaukee over in "tundra country" has enjoyed more 70°+ dayssince April (5 in the 80s) than we have here. Two weeks ago Madison in the central part of the state already had four days above 90°.
Older Versions of MeasureMetrics?Actually, I do use Daz Central so the auto-update is likely what caused my problem. But thanks for the suggestion Richard. I will open a ticket.
Older Versions of MeasureMetrics? You obviously don't have any kind of auto-updates enabled (available only in Daz Central), so you selected the option to download the newer version of Measure Metrics. You could try opening a support ticket to request an older version.

Hi,
I am a mac user, and I have the same issues also.
After the last update, almos all my scenes had lost their path references.
I installed my stuffs by Daz Central, and before the update everything was working right in the same path. This isn't the same issue as I mentioned, and the original poser is using Windows. Daz Central and mac are both unaffected by the issue I mentioned.

You must uninstall with Daz Connect before installing with any other method. Using Daz Connect is asking for trouble in my opinion. I gave up on it and use only DIM. I NEVER log in inside Daz Studio. Ok, the first problem is having "I:\DAZ_3D\Applications\Data\Daz 3D\My Daz 3D Library" specified under all three "Daz Connect Data", DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats" as that makes any and all DAZ Connect installation "nested" directories, which DS does not like - DAZ Connect does not use the same locations for content installations as DIM/DAZ Central/Manual installations do.
No, the Connect library is meant to be the folder that cotnains the data folder, as with any other kind of content directory - the CMS handles the extra /data/cloud/1_SKU/ part of the path so that it is never seen by other parts of the system.
But if the same path is specified for DAZ Connect Data as well as DAZ Studio Formats, the Connect installed files reside also in the DAZ Studio Formats Data folder - Not a good idea, if not otherwise, it will make troubleshooting more difficult, especially over the forums.
It's true that the files will be found regardless as long as their parent folder is set as a Daz Studio Content Directory, but if no files are being installed through Connect its actual location is not crucial and in any event I have had no issues with using the same folder for both installation methods - there is no overlap in paths used within the content directory.

To get some kind of idea, how much content you have installed by DAZ Connect, navigate to "I:\DAZ_3D\Applications\Data\Daz 3D\My Daz 3D Library\Data\Cache\" How many folders do you have there named "1_XXXXX"? (XXXXX is the SKU number of the products)
SKU for Welda is 78953 and the name of the folder should be "1_78953" if it was installed with DAZ Connect.
