How to enable raytracing in Daz Studio
In what? Iray does path tracing, it doesn't need enabling, but that is beyond the scope of the plain OpenGL drawstyles and dnot something Filament does (as far as I know).
My Discovery - of interest to Filament / Cartoon shadersFilatoon is almost as versatile as the old PwToon shader for 3DL was, but it inherits all of the limitations that are native to Filament itself. After using Filatoon for about a year and a half I ended up migrating back to using Sketchy Toon for Iray.My Discovery - of interest to Filament / Cartoon shadersFor Filament, I like the Filatoon outline on top of the figure, except not black, with the Iray mats underneath. To me, the Filament renders really need the outline, so they wouldn't look as washed out. Then, I also throw in the Genesis 9 Tear, and dye that sort of dark pink to match the skin. Rotation of the dome also affects the lighting, so I play around with that. This example is of the anime/toon figure, except I dialed it out and replaced the shape with a realistic one, like Maya for Genesis 9.

I don't like the Cartoon Shaded much. But if I do use it, I always make the scleras invisible so they won't have the "white eyes."
NPR style - DAZ Character and vintage photoI just posted to my DAZ gallery. Experimenting with a NPR, sketchy style using Gen 2 Red Rabbit character and a digital photo I took of one of my many diecast model cars. The one used in the illustration was 1/24 scale 1954 Chevy. I have close to 100 scale model cars (metal and plastic) in 1/25, 1/24. 1/18 and 1/16 scales.
Character was rendered in DAZ Filament and merged into the 1954 Chevy photos. I used Photoshop CC 2026, Topaz Impression and Rebelle 7 to create the effect with some tweaking in Camera Raw.
Cheers
Kenmo
My Discovery - of interest to Filament / Cartoon shadersAs I'm sure most already know, Genesis 9 introduced us to a new Filament shader option which gives a cartoon'ish look to the renders and is an improvement over the existing "Cartoon" render option. I've been using this a lot for objects in the background of my scenes -- magazine covers, a television screen, etc. I'm also going to be doing some illustrated stories of a story within a story.
But I'm sure nobody cares about any of that. However, what you might be interested in is something that I did by accident. I overlayed an IRAY render with the old cartoon render and I really like how it came out. I like it even better that the new Filament render.

I just wanted to share my discovery in case others also like it and want to have the same "look" to their cartoon renders.
Filament floor not showingYou are right, the floor grid does show in Filament Drawstyle for me. I can hide it by turnign off Draw Avatars in Draw Settings>General group, so it may worth checking if you have that setting off or on.
Filament floor not showingThanks Richard, but I am 100% sure I had a floor grid when in filament mode. Here is screenshot I had taken previously from some references I had.
This grid is useful as it allows me to know where to put objects and how they are situated vs the y=0 plane. I don't want to put a a primitive (as that would not be infinite anyway) I just want the same grid as I had before and the one I see now where I am in Wireframe for example.
Do you also see a complete blank gray when you go on filament on your daz session?
Filament floor not showingHello, I am new to daz and I have encountered an issue with filament where I can no longer see the floor.
This only happens in filament (and Iray but I can't remember if I had ever seen the flooe in iray), I am not sure why it happened, this was working fine just 1h ago but stopped working all of a sudden, I read online that it could be a NVDIA software update but not sure. It's a shame as I really like working with Filament.
In any case I have checekd that I have shhow floor ticked, and the issue doesn't happen in oother modes such as Wire shaded. I have also restarted daz and reset my layout just to make sure. I have deleted and re created the filament draw options but no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

The adorable Bebe High rendered with Filament.
Wow, love this...

Hey @3Diva, I conquered those issues that have been bugging me...
First the eyes, it was a simple solution that I stumbled on and that was to turn off the toon eye socket!

Then the Filament shader was solved by turning up the environmental weight via Genesis character's shaders directly.
So it had nothing to do with Daz, as it boiled down to it being a user issue, as I have not tinkered with it before I first posted, otherwise I would have found those settings already, thanks for your response to the matter!Oh, that's great to hear! I'm so glad you were able to find a solution! :D

now I only need cross my eyes or focus past with duel viewports offset by left and right eye cameras
some of my programs even do stereo pairs natively (Octane render 4 Carrara, iClone, Twinmotion)
I guess D|S with 2 viewports and linked cameras could too, at least using Filament
(not tried)

Thank you for the feedback! :) I'm so happy to hear that you're using Easy FilaToon in your animation projects!
I don't know what issues you're having with the Alpha, but hopefully once it's out of Alpha and onto an official release they'll have the bugs worked out. If you're still having issues after the official release of that version of Daz Studio please let me know and I'll get with the Daz3D team and see if we can figure out what the issue is. Also, please feel free to post any screenshots of what the issues you're seeing are.
Thanks for your attention on this, although I think it's an issue with Daz Studio as the filament issue is on them, not the PA, as PAs are not able to script for the alpha, so whatever scripting issue that may exist will have to wait until DS2026 hits beta...

Since you're not using the floating iris, what you can do is set up the eyes the way you like them (you should be able to use any of the included Shader Presets on the regular Genesis 9 eyes), then save those eyes as a wearable preset. When you're done setting up your figure, delete the eyes you don't want to use and load that wearable preset instead.
Thanks again for the feedback! :)
Thanks for the suggestion, as that solution never even occurred to me!
Also of note, your tool tips having the actual location of the folders is a nice touch!

I did these FilaToon renders a while back, but I finally got around to putting them together in a short one-off comic page.
WOW, these are incredible!
Looks like I'm learning a lot about you, time to go check out your gallery!
Thank you! That's kind of you to say! :) I haven't really posted anything in the gallery in some time, though.

Just got a notice about 3Delight being retired.....vrba79 said:
Yeah. The heart of the issue for people is that Daz de facto replaced 3Delight with a preview engine. Filament is amazing for anime and cartoon renders, but it can't do half the stuff 3Delight did. If you're someone with an ATI, Intel or older GPU, you're up a creek and nobody has a paddle for you.
Daz has not prsented Filament as a replacement for 3Delight - both were present for some time.

Ironically I did not know that you're a PA, as I see you so frequently in the forums that I thought you were just another forum'er, I'm having a blast converting my scenes as this makes animation possible for me as I don't have to wait ages for this to render!
Having these shaders dependent on filament rather than Iray is a brilliant use of filament!
Only issue I have is that I can't use the floating iris, as my poses are too extreme for the stock poses this comes with, so I found that using the G9 eyes the pupils are only displayed as an untextured and empty space that shows the back of the eye so I am stuck with white/untextured pupils...
Bonus points: it runs with the new alpha!
Non-Bonus Points: The environ, etc options for filament are not translating over to my copy of the new alpha...
Overall this is a great product, yet my version of the alpha appears bugged, either that, or it's a scripting issue with the alpha's new scripting api...

Render your buys! Use buys from the current month and the previous month of salesMy experience with doing drops is that its much easier and nearly as good to use geoshells. You can use Ron's Photoshop drips, blood, slime, suds, etc. to make your own goeshells that look better than anything you will make with the Drops Generator. Plus you can animate geoshell drops very easily by animating vertical and/or horizontal offset of the textures. I have the Drops Generator as well, but i don't use it. There's a lot of tools that sound good, but when you go to actually use them, you find them tedious to use and never use them again. Or you find your own tricks like I did with geoshells. Its not really against the PA, I have quite a few products from her that I like a lot, I use the Iray Light Manager all the time, for Filament renders ironically, but when I used Iray I never needed it. It tends to be the case with a lot of scripts and add-ons in the store. And the scripts I use the most are actually the free ones I've picked up from Mcasual.

Toyota is releasing a new game engine and it will use Filament
Well I love Filament and anything that creates more interest in Filament, especially from a company like Toyota is a good thing. It could very well lead to improvements to the engine that will filter down.
