How many Gianni figures do you think we need? Why keep duplicating what we already have? What would be the point of buying Gianni 7 if you already have an earlier version?

Why buy V4 when you already had V3,V2,V1 or Steph or Mike or David.
Or Dork and Posette...
Quite frankly, I don't look at the name, just at the morph/shape/texture(s). It is an addition to the morph/shape/texture pool for genesis 3 for those who want it. Nothing to do with the previous version(s). (Though personally I'm not (yet?) investing that much in genesis 3)
I'm hoping that by the time we have V10 and M10 their AI will be advanced enough that Vicky can tell me what clothes she likes and what colors.
Then again, she may not even like me and I'd have to keep returning them until I got one that will put up with me :(
By the time we get to V10, I hope we don't have to shell out for mobile holo emitters...
The same could be asked about Victoria... The answer is as long as people keep buying they will continue to be made.
I don't. I still use Victoria 4 for 95% of my renders. I use a tiny amount of newer content. Because, since I don't see the advantage of using Victoria 5,6,7... I don't need to buy clothing or hair made exclusively for those figures. After the 4th generation of figures the difference between the newer figures are just a blur to me. The longer I do 3D art, the more content I create myself, or adapt from content I already have. The more incompatible content that is sold, the more confusing buying becomes. This iray thing has paralyzed me when it comes to buying a lot of new products.
iray is just another rendering engine.Nothing to fear. It uses different shaders than 3delight, but you can fix that in a couple mouse clicks. I use Reality alot, which uses the luxrender engine,so swapping surface shaders isn't a big deal to me. I swap between 3Delight and iray on most everything I have depending on how I feel that day, and what renderer I want to use.
Some products come with presets for one render engine or another, doesn't mean you can't change them to what ever you want. You may have to put the maps and textures in different slots on the surfaces, and play with the colors to get the result you want, but I think we all do that anyway.
I'm begining to see that there is a comprehension gap between different types of 3D artists. I've been buying content and creating renders (and selling the art that results) for 8 years. I don't know what you mean "swap between 3Delight and iray on most everything I have". Swap exactly what? And how? I think 3D artists who are only artists, and not computer people, are at a disadvantage. Eventhough I still buy content - almost always props or buildings etc., DAZ sort of lost me when they introduced Genesis (thie first one). If that wasn't confusing enough, they abandoned that figure and made two new Genesis figures. All of a sudden, nobody's shoes fit. Then there is the render engine and texture/material conflict. I didn't bother with Reality. When Iray came along, DAZ lost me again. Now there's encrypted content, which adds another layer of terror. So I won't be buying any encrypted content - at all. I don't want it on my computer because I don't know what to expect - down the road - from it. I want content I feel comfortable with, and that is simple and fast to use. I'm an artist, not a computer brain. I'm in this to create art, not to fool around with technical stuff. If I had to think about how to use a paint brush, I probably wouldn't paint.
You have options. Stick with what works for you. DAZ 3D is going to keep innovating, if they are headed in a direction you don't like you have other options. You can stick with V4 no need for Genesis anything. If an earlier version of DAZ Studio is working for you keep using it, if you are just working with V4 no need to upgrade. There is also Poser. There are several other stores to purchase content from.
This is M4 with Xurge 3D's A.T.A.C. Suit rendered with Iray (reworked materials is more than just a click or two, if you want to get them right).
If you get an item that has an iray shader applied to it, you can change that shader to a 3Delight shader in just a few easy steps.
1) Select the item in the Scene Tab, (You can also use the surface selection tool to select individual srufaces on an item if you want)
2) locate the 3Delight shader you want to use, but don't click it yet.
3) Press and hold the CTRL on your keyboard, and double click the shader you have choosen to apply it to the item.A popup window will appear asking you if you want to replace or ignore the image maps on the item.Select ignore and presss accept.
That's it :),, you have just converted an iray shader to an 3Delight shader.
Now have a look at the surfaces pane to make sure all the textures and maps are in the slots you want them to be, and start coloring as you normaly would.
