Am I the only one that does not want adverts in my library?

I am not a fan of vendors that put store links in my library, and blacklist those that do it. I am also not a fan of the store tab in 4.9, at least I can just not use the tab. I am not sure what people would like about it, when I am in my library, I am there to make art, not to buy. When I want to buy something, I go search the marketplaces. Am I the only one? I used to just delete the links before I archive my backups, but it gets annoying after a while. I get that you want to sell things, but my library is for items I already own, I don't want it cluttered up with 2903483209 store links.

Are store links something new with 4.9? I hadn't heard anyone mention store links, just the store tab which I have to agree I don't think I would. When I'm in DS, I'm usually in a zone where I want to create not shop. Shopping is a distraction I don't need when I'm working.
I don't really want to name names or whatever, but I noticed some vendors put links to their store in their products. Just something I noticed that annoyed me, like texture makers that don't put their textures in subfolders of the product they are making textures for. I blacklist those guys as well, I don't have time to be searching around in vendor folders to find my addon textures lol. But the vendor links is not a new thing, I saw them back before 4.9 was out of beta.
Nope, you're not the only one! LOL I use DIM to download to a temp folder and while I'm moving or renaming things, I also delete them and vanity folders and recently, icons to go with the vanity folders.
I don't use Connect and have no plans to, but do they show up the same in Connect? The vendor folder with the character/prop/etc. folder inside and a link to their store? If so that's just another reason I'll stick to managing my files myself through Windows. :)
Sounds familliar lol. I don't use DIM at all, but I do unzip stuff to temp folders and fixfixfix. I often end up making my own icons and tooltips. I want to see what stuff looks like from a few angles without having to load it up lol.
Nice! :) And people don't understand why we're so protective of our file systems. LOL
It seems to be the norm these days I guess. Everyone is used to ads and commercials everywhere. My mindset, I bought vue once. Great program, but all the corocopia spam in the library there made me never buy it again. I don't wanna see stuff I don't already own in my runtime/library whatever when I am trying to make art. I just wanna see what I can use now.
No, since Connect uses Smart Content and Categories, it doesn't display vanity folders, and the store links are segregated from the actual content, I believe I've seen some in Lost and Found and some in Documents.
Thanks, Mike. :) That's good to hear for everyone using Connect.
Agreed. The whole store is a bunch of ads so that's where I go to buy. I don't need it in my files. LOL I don't blacklist them but they don't make a fan out of me for sure. LOL
Just to confirm are you referring to the practice of placing a script in a product with a link to an online storefront here?
Here in Denmark commercials are not allowed on domestic TV channels except between programs, and our 6 main channels have no commercials at all (costs $300/year but most people prefer that to commercials). Personally I boycot all TV channels that have commercials inside programs, IMO it's a total disrespect for artistic values as well as the viewers to pollute movies etc. with commercial every 15 minutes. They're working on a new law also which demands that subscription channels must be sold indvidually instead of in large packets, so you don't have to pay for channels you don't want.
Totally off-topic: remember that the art you talk about (tv-series) is actually -- sadly -- designed with the ad-blocks in mind.
Yes, I know the TV-series are - when you watch that stuff without commercials you'll often see the scene go black and the sound disappear for a moment or some other sign that indicates where the commercial block should have been.
I'm not talking about TV-series only though (I'm not watching these much), it's everything without exception that's getting polluted with commercials on the ad channels. Besides it's wasting a lot of your time - a 2 hour movie may easily be 30+ minutes longer with commercials than without.
The one's I've seen are a simple box when you click on the product and the images come up, it's the first image and will say "Visit our store Daz3d.com" I don't recall seeing any attempts to take me away from Daz. I simply right click and "remove reference." (Content Library, HATE Smart Content.) Edit: I don't know if it's a link or not, I never click it. May be only an image.
It will be a little Daz script that says open this link in the OS default browser. I don't use them but they don't bother me, it's only one icon (and often in the "vanity folder" not the actual product folder within that).
I think I'm going to move to Denmark lol.
I don't mind the vanity folders but I will never buy something from the store through my application. I prefer looking at things in the store via my browser.
totally agree with you
You are aware, of course, that TV series were the very first commercials, and the entire idea of them ws to promote some sponsored product? :-)
as written, if we want new items we go to the marketplaces, if I want to do art I use DAZ Studio, I do want no commercials or links in an art-software.
I don't like adverts within products.
Having said that, I don't mind a link to a vendor's store - as long as it does NOT add an extra layer of folders, and it is clearly marked as such. If not I tend to look disfavourablly on them. I'm customer already, if you want me to buy more stuff from you, make sure the quality is there and that you're active on the forums.
Zev0 is a fantastic example of a consistently high quality vendor and someone who takes the time to discuss upcoming items, and deal with issues. He does provide a link to Daz, but its for product support. Other PAs should take note.
I haven't seen it in DS yet... But I'm still using 4.8... But in general I HATE ads and commercials... There was a time when I was indifferent and my feeling was "okay, you need to have sponsors" but I feel the concept is being abused and exploited to the point where it is persistent, intrusive and ruins the experience of anything they are allowed in or on... It it's like having someone literally in you face saying "pay attention to me".
I don't think so, at least if I understand the point being made. If I watch a show that the producers and creative people put together assuming a certain field of view and then the network people insert obtrusive, animated banner adds at the bottom of the screen every x minutes it's always for another show the network airs. So it's not making any (direct) ad revenue. But it is corrupting the program. Often the creators have items in the lower portion of the frame that are relevant to the story like perhaps a letter that a character is reading. Then an ads for, let's say "Pawn Stars", pops up and cover it. Now you have no idea what the heck was in the letter. Nice work!
My brother-in-law and his wife live in Denmark and I did not know that! We don't watch 'free to air' tv at all because of all the ads - perhaps we should move to Denmark! (At least we'll have somewhere free to stay LOL )
Before you start packing be aware that we have the highest taxes in the world...

I guess I am now...
