Suggestion: Store Filter for "Encrypted / Not Encrypted"

As more and more encrypted items are added to the Store, users who prefer to avoid that sort of thing may start getting frustrated. They see something nice, click on it, and only then are able to discover that it's encrypted. Do that half a dozen times and it'll get annoying.

How about adding a filter to the Store, same place as 'Genre' or 'Figure', which would let customers filter out Encrypted items?

That, or an "Unencrypted" checkbox, like the one for PC+ products.

This is really important to non-Studio users

Yeah that would be nice. I'm not buying encrypted products. If I can't use the stuff I pay for where I want to use it, then Daz doesn't get my money.

  • I'd like the ability to filter out DAZ connect only products in the store too.

  • Yes please, I also would like to filter out encrypted and Daz Connect items as there isn't any way I could use them. I've always stayed with manual install to prevent any conflict between the items I get from different sources (Renderosity, ShareCG, Computer magazine cover discs, Daz Studio store...). I didn't install the download manager when that came along and this encrypted thing is even worse. If Daz makes all content encrypted it will just kill their business.

I agree that such a filter would be useful, however I just want to clarify a few points:

    1) If you normally export DS-format items for use in other applications, that still works for encrypted products.

    2) One of the features of Daz Connect is that it never overwrites other products' files -- if two products have files with the same name and path, Daz Connect keeps them both and uses the one corresponding to the product.

I really don't think that's going to happen. You could equally argue there should also be an Iray filter for artists using pre-4.8 who can't use it?

I'd be happy if the product images just had a clear symbol denoting encrypted products, but I think the idea is that Daz wants us to open the product page and think..."That's pretty good... I might upgrade to 4.9 after all."

Or is that being too cynical?

Cynical or not, probably correct. An Iray filter would be great too. That's one way Rendo beats DAZ by a factor of 10 is the way you can filter your search results. DAZ can't even remember where I was after I look at an item and usually takes me back to the beginning when I hit the Back button.

Is it still doing that for you?  AFAICT that was fixed a long time ago.

Intermittently. I've been trying to teach myself to right-click ->New Tab any item I want to look at. Now I just don't search the store. I'll look at sale banners then move on.

    Fix: Fixed? Uh, no?

Every time I've hit the back button, the store forgets my previous place and any pull-down options I set. I try to right-click New Tab, like frog suggests, but every time I forget I start cursing at the screen.

Search is frustratingly limited. I can't search for 'items that aren't PC+,' I often can't even search for stuff I know the name of. Like, type in Edit Hair. You get no results, despite there being somewhere around 4-6 different Edit Hair items.

I find it all the more surprising given Daz' entire revenue stream is the store. It also makes me wonder how much vendors' truism about 'stuff sells mostly in the first week' is driven by the fact that there are no really good tools for finding older content. (Something that hopefully Connect may help with)

daz's store search and categories has always been disappointing. Would love to see more options to search for content rather than less.

DAZ in general seems to try to not bother their users with too much information in their store, to put a positive spin on it.

Would the two of you mind opening a new thread and putting your ideas in there (in detail), I would really like to hear your ideas on how the search (and categorization) could be improved. Getting a different perspective on it could lead to some useful innovations, although I'm not promising anything :).
