PostgreSQL and offline option question

I've just installed 4.9 and, I've just had a message pop up about PostgreSQL CMS.

I'm assuming that 4.9 can't connect to the net (at all) if this isn't installed?

Also, I didn't have a message appear, giving the option to keep 4.9 offline (it also has the login screen). Is there anyway to make that message appear?

Thanks

The update does not include the PostgreSQL. You have to do a search for "PostgreSQL" in the DIM searchbar; there you`ll find the PostgreSQL file for DAZ Studio 4.9; you have to install that.

Just so you know: PostgreSQL is the database where they store the data for Smart Content and Categories, it has nothing to do with internet connection.

If it has nothing to do with internet connection... why does the error occure when try to connect to the internet and say "can`t connect to the internet because PostgreSQL for DAZ Studio is missing"?

The error that I get everytime I start DAZ Studio 4.9 is:

A valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established.  Several DAZ Studio features that require a valid PostgreSQL CMS connection, such as context aware content views and loading content installed using the Daz Connect service, will not be available.  Check your network, anti-virus, and firewall settings for conflicts.

It has nothing to do with connecting to DAZ Connect. It has to do with saving the data. In my case I can still use the services once I close that annoying warning Window. I have no idea why it detects no PostgreSQL since it is running with no problems. I use DIM without issues, so I know it is running.

That's not an error phrase I've seen, but ti wouldn't be surprising as Connect needs postgreSQL for data handling so without the database it can't do what it was trying to connect for.

    Hi everybody

I also have this annoying message and the problem which goes with. Running on Win 10/64 Tried almost everything that make sense in the forum and official site: nothing have changed.

The only thing I couldn’t is uninstall postgreSQL and reinstall it because once installed this app is not appearing in DIM "installed tings" panel (Valentina conversion utility does appear, postgreSQL itself doesn’t).

I also saw this message in official forum:

With the PostgreSQL solution, there is no longer a need to start a service that runs in the background.  Normally, the PostgreSQL server starts when the application starts and stops when the application stops, unless another application, like Install Manager, is connected to it—in which case it will stop when the last application connected to it closes.  Explicit control to start the service is provided via an action (in the Content Library pane option menu) and a button (in the Smart Content pane) without ever needing to leave the application.  Explicit control to stop the service is also provided via an action (in the Content Library pane option menu).

Do I have to understand “the CMS is no longer required” or “it will start and stop by itself when required”?

My question is: how do I now the service and the database are the good ones, the files in the relevant folders seems not to be up to date. Can somebody provide this information please?

Too many people seem to complain about this problem that appears to me as a real one.

Thanks in advance for your valuable help

    Bernard

Does PostgreSQL appear in any tab in DIM?

The service DazContentManagementService.exe is the old Valentina CMS -- the PostgreSQL CMS does not run all the time.  When you launch DS, DIM, or Carrara you'll see 6 or 7 istances of postgres.exe in Task Manager.  The PostgreSQL database is in a folder named ContentCluster.  When DS starts up there should be a message saying "Connected to CMS: PostgreSQL 9.34" if it connected to PostgreSQL CMS or "Connected to CMS: 4.8" if it connected to Valentine CMS.

  • When DS starts up there should be a message saying "Connected to CMS: PostgreSQL 9.34"

My log file shows both that message fairly early in the loading process and the "connection could not be established" message at the end of loading.

I have the same message when I start DAZ 4.9. I then start CMS (even though I am pretty sure it is already running) and everything seems to be working so its just another annoying popup like the please install windows 10 popup whenever I log on.

I like the option to have CMS running and have the extras that it provides the DAZ STUDIO system, not just the categories in Smart Content tab.  When I was getting the aforementioned errors upon starting DS I found that when I turned off all the protections (very easy to do in Windows 10) and then starting up DS I then got a logon issue and a notice that the CMS was updating . After that all my categories showed up finally.  I turned back on the system protections and restarted DS to see if it was OK and it was.  At one point though the CMS messed itself up again and once I turned off protection and logged back in and it updated itself it's been OK... *fingers crossed*  ...........

I was having problems with the PostgreSQL database connection on my Mac. Having dug around a little, I found a background process running calle DAZ Content Management Service. The files for this were stored under the /Library folder. After uninstalling this and removing the folder containing it, I found that DAZ Studio 4.9 started up cleanly and allowed access to smart and online content.

My assumption is that this process is part of the old content management service. Because it seems to start up at system start, it appears to block the connection to PostgreSQL.

I have no idea how this maps to Windows. However, you may be able to tell if this process is running using the Windows Task Manager. I do not know how you would go about uninstalling it, though.
