Finding Connect-ed content in Content panel (solved and a useful tip!)

Apologies if this is a dumb question or one that's been answered already. I'm doing some Smart Content testing with 4.9 by creating a new directory structure and only installing products directly through Connect. Things are working fairly well so far, except there is no content being displayed in the standard Content panel. I do understand why, as the products are not being installed into the typical folder structure, but could someone tell me how you *do* get anything that's installed this way to appear?

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Find the items in Smart Content - the simplest is via the products tab. Open the location you want to place them in under DAZ Studio Formats in the Content Library. Select teh items and drag them from Smart Content to the Content Library - that will create special Daz Studio shortcuts that are just files that can be further moved around if desired.

Thank you very much, that worked fine. DAZ should show or describe an example of this for all of the users (like me) who were afraid of not being able to manually sort their content. This appears to allow it, it's just done by dragging these shortcuts between panels rather than through our OS's file managers.

Incidentally, once you've created the shortcuts, you can then move them around using your OS's file managers if you wish.

Right, you just need to create the initial shortcuts by dragging and dropping within Studio.

It's so important to be able to have some manual control over where our files are because it still can be tricky to find things using Smart Content. Clothing doesn't seem to be filtered by being male or female, so being able to drag all the male clothing into a folder and female into another while still retaining the smart content links to textures and such is great.

I could never get this to work in the beta. Need to try again.

So... just drag and drop from the Smart Content tab to the Content Library tab?

I'm not having any luck dragging the item I want from smart content tab to the content library tab.I've got the new Lulu Outfit and I'm trying to bring it over to the content library but it's not allowing me to.  I am using the new public build, 4.9.63

Make sure you're dragging the file(s) (not the product) into the folder on the Content Library pane

Here's a pic, sorry about the size but I didn't want to post a 2560x1400 image for this. You need to drag them into a folder like I did here.

on the Smart content pane, grab the individual item you want to move and drag it to the folder veiw area of the Content LIbrary and drop it.Not the area at the bottom where you can see the icons, but at the top where you just see the folders. You should see a very small box with a plus sign on the end of your mouse as you drag it over an area you drop it.If the small plus sign changes to a red circle with a line through it,you are over an area you cant drop into.

Gotcha.  A bit of a hassle having to do it, but I guess better than using the smart content tab...which I never liked using ever since.  I noticed that the "cloud" files are stored in my "studio/data" folders.  Is there any way I can point it to go to "studio/my library/data...." instead?

I  just wrote a lot of stuff regarding Connect content and organizing it in my latest dA journal here. Maybe something can be useful.

You can change the directory where Connect installs your content, but do not move any files in that "cloud" structure or your Smart Content (and possibly more) will stop working.

Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager has a new entry for specifying where Connect installs to.

Thanks!  I looked there more than a couple of times, but didn't realize I could edit that.  Glad I asked!
