Hi,
How can I keep the shine on an object when I render it? e.g. a car's paint work.

That would depend on several things such as; are you using 3Delight, Iray, Poser or some other program to render you image? Are you using the textures that came with the product or shaders? If shaders are you using the correct ones in the correct render engine? (Iray shaders in Iray engine and not 3Delight Shaders in Iray and vice versa) Where is the item placed within the scene? What type of lighting are you using? What render settings do you have?
I see, I'm rendering in 3Delight with no shaders bar the default ones in D/S with a single white light angled off centre from the subject.I've set the specular to 100% and the ambient to 5.25 so the suject is in shadow.
John.
It would be best to post a sample render and screenshot of the Surface settings...
Turn off ambient as that could outshine the highlights that you are trying for.
Look at the top of the surface tab, if it says DZ Default when your surface is selected then:
Change glossiness to between 50 and 90, higher is smaller highlight, if you set it to 100 it's too small to see. Set color between mid grey and white. Set specular strength to taste. Higher is higher.
If it says Uber Surface:
Set specular 1 color between grey and white, set roughness (or glossiness) about 10-20, set strength to taste, set sharpness 0 to 50 depending on how starp you want the edges of the highlight to be.
Don't ever use ambient in 3Delight unless you want your item to glow in the dark.
