I use Gallery mainly as an Archive of my work. I do remove images I don't feel meet my standards now. My images are always buried by the avalanche of Vicky portraits.
I don't have a vote posse, and I really don't care much. I won't do panty and candy Images to buy likes. I also think DAZ is heavily skewed to portraiture, IRAY does that well, and TBH most of their products and promotion are for portrait and studio art. Trying to find a set of women's high boots with Flat heels in the vast sea of Spikes is ample evidence of that.
I do note that over the long term, the better art of all types does even out. There are some fantastic Images in "most liked all time". There are also fantastic images buried in the 5-10 vote mass and it takes time to find them.
I have an album on FB that is severely limited as to who can view it. If I post an Image to a friend's timeline, they are free to share it, and many have.
No interest in DA. I do Fantasy, my girls wear impractical.. but the point of my images is not porn, or even adult. I love MMOs and my images reflect that.
Feedback is pretty non-existant here outside of the new user contest. I keep a thread going in Art Studio but it often has tumbleweeds blowing through it.
DA, because the galleries here are primarily aimed at existing Daz customers and most people I know don't number among that demographic.
With that said, DA is notorious for having viral and hacking problems (often from China) and I'd like to find a similar free alternative.
Some sites in order to save bandwidth convert everything you upload to jpegs and some (like facebook) throw a whole lot of compression on the images you upload to save even more bandwidth.
I use DA for my online gallery because it keeps everything central rather than scattered onto different sites. It's also easy to use with no size restrictions, thumbnail requirements, etc., etc. It doesn't matter which community I'm currently active in, my gallery doesn't go anywhere. I just stick to a few limited groups that suit my tastes (little to no nudity) and watch several other Poser/Studio artists that I think do excellent work. Can't say I have a problem with ads on the site, but I do use Ad Block. I was also a paid member for several years until they stopped doing the Buy 1 year, Get 1 year free sale.
I started posting my Studio images here in the Daz galleries, but I blink and my image is long buried several pages back. And as others have noted, if it isn't a nearly nude pin-up, it'll be ignored. But such is life, and I create images for my own enjoyment first and foremost.
Several years ago I set up a URL to do my own online gallery, but it's only ever just been hotlinked to my DA gallery because I just never got up to tackling building my webpage.
I prefer DeviantART. I like how the site works, how the gallerys and options are done and most of all like how its a much larger comminity of artists who are not all on the same genre or media but instead its a really big mix. I find myself liking a lot of other peoples works who dont even do 3D.
I've only just started using the daz gallery and it seems a little too cumbersome - a matter of getting use to it, I think. But my preferred site is DA, as I've been using it much longer and have a good network of friends and watchers and I mostly post nudes. DA has a pretty good search function and I'll often wander around for ideas. But, one should never look in "artistic nudity"
The thing that really p***es me off about DA, though, is the quote "all models are 18 years or older". When you see that, you can pretty much guarantee the all the Daz characters will look like 10 year olds.
Well, I have that disclaimer on my models...ALL my models are DAZ characters..and NONE of my models look like 10 year olds. I do take offense with your comment.
I put that disclaimer on there so that there is no mistake that I am publishing child porn, and my models ALL look adult. This is all I am going to say and I do not wish to bantor about it.
Greetings,
I use dA because it has a community around illustrations, whereas DAZ's galleries are fire-and-forget. I have a few pictures uploaded here, and if I want to do something DAZ-specific I'll often upload here (like, 'My first M6 image', and stuff).
I also like dA's statistics (watchers, page views, favorites, comments, etc.) and personal stats (uploaded most on Thursday, generally between midnight and 1am, etc.), that's all fun. But the really nice part is being able to hold an actual conversation with some of the people who put up images. (Some don't want that, and they let you know by one word responses.)
In essence, dA feels like an actual community, DAZ's gallery feels like a photo wall, or a slideshow.
Now I'm not the best example; too much of what I've put up on my deviantArt account is pulchritude, and given that I'm a crappy digital illustrator, it probably falls in the category of 'bad Poser *' (despite none of it actually being Poser). Still, I like having the ability to share it with others, and DAZ's galleries are just awful for sharing with others. To me 'sharing' includes 'being able to have a conversation', and being able to form groups around concepts.
One thing I learned a long time ago, is that the larger a place, the more likely you are to find a sub-group that you can associate with. (This was originally w/r/t college, but it's gone on to be true in most places.) dA has a significantly larger user base, and thus the sub-groups of 3D illustrators is larger than even here, where it's theoretically a dedicated site. Sure, this means that the fetish folks can group together (which the OP's post absolutely DRIPS derision on) and they typically care more about the details of their fetish than the quality of the overall image, but...it also means that other groups can form, of folks interested in the Iray render engine, or just of pictures of people standing by railroad tracks. (I kid you not!)
That's what it means to have an actual community feel; you can find a community of like-minded folks, whether it be about bare feet, or light shining through leaves. There's just no capability for that in the DAZ galleries, which is why they feel so lifeless. Much like actual art galleries, in fact. :(

I used to upload to my FB page, Pixiv and, Deviantart. But now it's just DA.
I don't post the link to my DA profile here, because there are people that may be offended by my username (it has the word "b*t*h" in it). I used to love DA, but I had enough of the trolls and idiots that thought fav-ing work into folders named "s**t work" "cr@p" (just to discredit the artist) really got on my nerves... So I deleted everything and started again.
As I said, I'm still on DA, but I'm not as active as I used to be. Now, I mostly add 3D and Daz3D work. The only problem is, my new work has offended some of the people who I thought were my friends. The majority of renders that I do are for myself. If I like a scene enough, I may recreate it with another character and post it to DA.
If you want to avoid the porn and crappy work on DA, just search "3D Art" "Most popular". That will weed out most of the junk.
I've never tried the DAZ Gallerie, because I'm satisfied with DA and my own webcomic, although my website itself could be better. My provider, WIX, while easy to use, isn't really set up for webcomics. But I do what I can.
I don't use social media. No Facebook, no twitter, no anything social.
If yo read my webcomic in sequence, you'll see that my 3D skills are... evolving, to be kind.
My DA: http://cat-man-dancing.deviantart.com/
My webcomic: http://www.thegentlewolf.com/
Does anyone have recommendations for where to post sequential stories? dA, as far as I can tell, isn't really suited for a continuing story with both text and images, and I need a place to post segments of my stories that require filters.
Do a search for "webcomic hosting", that seems to be the closest to what you are asking for. I don't know about the filters, but most webcomics are basically sequential stories. I use Wix, (it can be free), but it's not the best solution.
My DA: http://cat-man-dancing.deviantart.com/
My webcomic: http://www.thegentlewolf.com/
I've been pretty happy with comicfury.com . You can get all sorts of stats, embed ads (I use Project Wonderful for that), and, well, free.
Does it allow you to specify individual pages as Adult Content?
Never heard of that. Really? I wonder, what do people need to hack DA for? Credit Card info of Premium users? (Not sarcastically meant, just very suprised)
I'm very sorry if in the process of posting this thread I offended a fetishist art community, by leveling their efforts down and not allowing them to have their own enjoyable spot. My frustration mainly comes from the amount of art they post and continious mis-categorizing. I mean, when I browse 3D - Scenes - Fantasy, I don't expect to see a contemporary setting with a guy licking someone's feet. How is that fantasy? And yes, everyone makes mistakes, but those guys seem to do it unproportionally often.
That said, I do enourmously agree with your post. DA is a huge community, and although 3D might be a bit small when compared to its other specific corners, one can usually live quite nicely by joining or building a circle of people who share the same art-style and exchange feedback. As to the part about comments and communication, I couldn't have phrased it better.
And no, looking at your gallery, I wouldn't put your art in the "bad Poser art" category that I described in my original post.
The problem with "Most popular" category is that somehow it has the same artists filling it. Most of those artists I already have checked out and either did or didn't watch them. They are great artists, I won't argue that, but even when looking at best of 24 hours, somehow it's really hard to find someone you haven't seen before. Probably because the most popular art was posted in several groups, and being a member of those groups I've already seen it. On the other hand, people who quitly post on their page without joining groups, might pass unseen, having a small amount of faves and comments. And those are usually people I might have not seen yet, but who may have very nice renders, just not so many watchers.
But then, usually I browse art when I'm looking for people. Not just something to fave or comment on. I'm a member of several groups and I go through several deviation stacks every morning, I have enough to see just for the sake of seeing. It's the interaction and people that I miss.
You could try the hiveworks http://thehiveworks.com/ I know a lot comics hosting there and all kinds of different genres so they most probably have the options you are looking for
In the 6 years I have been dA member I never read of virus or hackings.
So, I'm the only one who uses Renderosity a lot?
I also post some of my work on my blog.
I used to do some shopping there, but I dont' find the store to be laid out well.
You're not the only one!
I do too, but I am not crazy of the change they made recently.
Me neither. I've been on dA for 4 years and never experienced any such unpleasantness. I'm a "core" member and use AdBlock Plus—not sure if that makes any difference. I really like deviantArt because of the features, flexibility and stats. I like the social media aspects of it and I've made quite a lot of friends there with out that being burdensome (unlike Facebook, for example). I find it very easy to avoid drama and unpleasantness by being very selective of the groups that I join (and I never look at the front page or in the forums). I haven't had a single abusive comment or message—although I've had a few weird ones! Lots of people from the DAZ forums are there, including PAs and I find that a really good way to get some insight which is often a little more frank and honest than we get here. There's also the opportunity to get tutorials and freebies—some members are exceedingly generous with their time in that respect, such as Laticis and the lovely SickleYield. I really find it enriches my 3D art experience.
Well, just look at my sig line down there.
Like SnowSultan says DA folks are easier to interact with. You can showcase your work in 'groups'
Rendo because I started there 14 yrs ago and I do artistic promos for some of the vendors there. I've left my very first render there to remind myself that I was once a newbie.
I seldom post here because most of my work would violate TOS.
JV
I use dA...when I get around to posting there :p
I'll occasionaly throw an image up on the DSC Mag related facebook group, but that's more a specific thing (like a xmas pic durring xmas).
I keep meaning to check out the gallery system here...
What I'd really dig is a workshop area..kind of like what you do in the new user contest threads.
