Candle flames in Iray help please
Can I ask for some helpful advice? How would a person set up candle flame lights for Iray?I'm having trouble & to be honest-this is my first time & I'm clueless on how Iray lights work. Thanks a bunch.

You have two options. One is a point light placed where the flame is and color it candle light is. You can look up the color temperature for candles on the internet pretty easy. The other option is to use the emissive surface option. I think that the emissive shader daz included is a bit wonky but it is easy to do yourself. Go to the surface tab and select the candle flame surface on the candle (Which needs to be selected in the scene. Apply first the Uber Iray Shader to the surface then scroll down to emission color. You can change it to white and add the original texture to the color or you can change it to a flameish orange. When you change the color your going to get more options. The only one you need to worry about really is luminance and I'd do a test render to see if you need to adjust that.
ok thanks:)
I recently did some tests trying to get candle light in Iray and came up with this. It's not 100% accurate, but it seems to give decent results so far. Maybe it can help a little. :)

Here's a NSFW render to see how it looks: http://fastbike1.deviantart.com/art/Livia-By-Candlelight-569714761
Ther are other products that offer torches and campfires.
Just to add that a small amount of bloom (as in snow sultans example) in the render settings helps a lot to get that blurry glow of realism.
I hope she takes care with those flames, or do I see a party trick coming up ?
No party trick. Just some drame to see if the candles alone would be sufficient. I did keep thinking that some of the positions would be difficult. I'll just go with the concept that this Livia is a mystic and can "control" the flames.
This is a great product. Several options for styles.
thanks for tips & SnowSultan I fav'd your candle tips on DA.
Thanks, I'm glad it helped. :)
