Looking for stands

Hi,

I hope this is the right place to post this. I'm looking for stands or a dais to display my human form renders on. Think of a mannequin stand, but perhaps larger and more ornate? I've done a number of searches and so far found nothing, although being the newbie that I am, more than l ikely I'm using the wrong search terms and/or simply missing the obvious.

Many thanks for any pointers.

Bob

Well, depends on exactly how strict you mean by stands, there are many things you can put them on like pedestals. My first thought was the Modern Museum. There's pedestals, even columns to put the figure between. Remember scaling- what may seem really oversized may be shrunk and make a perfect place to plop your figure onto. I'll keep looking around.  Museum of Un-Natural History is another.

The Gallerie Simple Essentials Display Props has a case for a figure, look at the vertical glass display case. And if you type Display Cases in the search, you'll get several of those products. Shrink or enlarge and you're set. For without glass, use one of the many temples/columns and shrink them, and put the figure on them.

Here's what to look for to kit-bash. If you look at the robes hanging on the wall in this bathroom from i13's shower product, you could take those square metal pieces holding them up and resize them to fit under the person's arms (depending on your pose)  or by the neck, making them a display prop. You should look at the products you already have and look for tidbits that could lodge against the person, fit under their arms, or something they can be placed on. Have fun!

Take a look at The Antfarm's Base Camp series in the store. That may be what you're looking for.
  • If you also could use bases like for figurines, Antfarm has a good collection here.  Powerage has some at Renderosity, and there are plenty others.  Can't link atm, but will link some when I get to my pc if you'd like.

You could search The Antfarm store, there are movie stands, cases and various bases for that sort of thing, if you sort The Antfarm store price low to high some of the stands are ridiculously cheap at the moment (potentially more so when the 60% hits the letter T)
  • Here's a free set at RuntimeDNA to get you started.  Hopefully it's okay to link this.  http://www.runtimedna.com/Curiosities_stand01.html

I remembered something I did a couple years ago, can't find the render at the moment, but I turned a pot upside down, scaled it to expand it lengthwise and only widened it a bit, sunk it into the ground plane, and had a cool rounded dais. (Don't laugh- I'm the queen of flipping floors and using those as neat walls.)

    Greetings,

I think that links that directly relate to the question are okay.  So The Antfarm's Basecamp is great (and the Stand Box), along with Movie Stands and the Tech Tiles.  They also have an awesome Action Figure blister pack, along with one for the vehicles.  Powerage's is a single set with a lot of bases.  I own like...all of these blush (except the vehicle blister pack), and they're great for creating that figurine-style of look.  I haven't tried Powerage's or The Antfarm's older ones since I switched to Iray, but it's probably just a few texture tweaks needed.

While I'm on a roll, you can also take a table and scale it, drop it through the floor, and have a very nice wood / tiled / whatever circular dais. Increase the Y translation to make it thicker. The Bar Italia / pizzaria products or La Dolce

    I'm done.

I think Muelsfell (sp?)/EArkham also has a couple of bases in the store here. Or at least one. You may be able to find some in the freebie section as well.

And, as for kitbashing; rather a lot of architectural elements have matt zones which can be turned off which would leave a base visible. DM's stuff is good for that kind of thing. But so are others'.

This set has some stands/bases: http://www.daz3d.com/sculptural-genesis-ultra-fun-kit. The shaders will work with any surface in your scene, and you could put anything you want on the bases. Another possibility is to create your own with some primitives and shaders. This is a quick render using 3 cylinders and a shader frome Mazedness to create a dais:

  • I didn't render it, but even played around with making a stand from one of Jack Tomalins/Redhouse studios old fountains.  Really anything can become a stand almost.  Just have fun playing around till you get something you like.
