Watch it this morning 7:15 am with my son and niece and nephew. First time I prebought tickets on line too. A whole generation is going to get hooked on the new series. Really compelling movie and new bunch of heroes. Homage to the old 4-6 episodes and a keen eye on the future. Daisy Ridley's going to be a ray of hope on the franchise.

good review without spoilers. Cool. I'm ticketed for 1230 Saturday 19 Sept 2015...
And gotta say Rocky Flats is a perfect piece for this (and SO many other) genre.
Cool Render!
So, my wife really wants to see this, she's been a star wars fan forever. I grew up on Star Wars, 4-6, and still remember recieving my first figure, a storm trooper, as well as breaking both of his thumbs off from tossing him up and down in the air... simple pleasures :)). I remember waiting in line at Graumans Chinese Theatre (I think?). I remember going to Burger King to get the special limited edition glasses, etc.
However, Star Wars 1-3, the over saturation and mass marketting, and the re-release of 4-6 (Han shot first!) has really turned me off to the brand. Im not a JJ Abrams fan and I can hate on Disney for hours! I still enjoy watching the 4-6 theatrical releases now and then and ill throw in a Star Wars video game occasionally (X-Wing and Tie Fighter are classics). I even started my own SW render the other day.
Im going to go see this movie because my wife wants to see it. Am i likely to enjoy it? I hope so...
... or am I likely to fall asleep 15 minutes in (SW 1-3)?
Plan on seeing it this weekend myself. Unlike some I like all the newer movies, especially the Phantom Menace (before Anakin became a brooding whiner, LOL).
I am not a fan of Disney either (love John Carter and want a sequel), but it is what it is and look forward to more SW movies in the future.
It's weird seeing a whole new younger generation getting into something that I grew up on and was a big part of my early life. Had a 7 yr old come into work the other day with a SW shirt on, freaky!
My son is going to see it tomorrow morning. I've seen the earlier films but I'm not a fan like he is.
I haven't seen it and when I heard Disney bought the rights I cried for joy as the first 6 movies really had no direction to the actors and many performances should have been better, plus the scripting wasn't that good either. I have seen many of the actors that were in the last 3 (1-3) give believable performances in other movies. I had a feeling that Disney could do a better job of it now as they too have grown in making movies and no I am not a fan of them either. Also some, not all, of the CGI effects weren't up to par with what others studios put out these days.
We're going to see it tomorrow afternoon, since while all three of us are fans, we're not Fandom level fans, so we usually go for maintees.
I have friends in the local 501st Garison who got to see it last night.
Got plenty of positive reviews with no Spoilers from people who didn't like the Ewoks or Jar Jar. So I'm going ahead and letting myself buy into the hype. (My big problem with the prequels was that atrocious love story with the awful lines and zero chemistry between Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen. Heck, she had better chemistry with Jake Lloyd.)
I've seen every one in their original run in the theaters - I was 6 when the first movie came out - and I've no plans to change that now (though the upcoming one shots may occasionally get delayed.)
Well, I'm planning to see it with my daughters who are crazy about the saga... As long as there is no Jar Jar Binks... Meso hates him so very much, hesa one bombad jackass. I'll probably have to wait till after the holidays when the lines are shorter.
No spoilers...its a relatively solid film.
I have some issues with it. Strong issues related to plot, the macguffin and direction.
It could have been better. I think Lucas may have killed the part of me that loved this universe.
Its worth seeing.
Been at every opening since The Empire Strikes Back, which is still my favorite.
No truer words have been spoken.
I've just now returned home after seeing the movie. Now I can safely browse the internets again without fear of spoilers.
I think it certainly was good enough but just like evilded777 said, there was indeed some things to have issues with. The 3d did its job and enhanced the experience without trying to steal the show. Now the long wait to next episode begins.
Oh, and I can't imagine anyone falling asleep during this movie.
I just saw it this morning as well, and I plan on going again over the weekend. Definitely worth seeing. J.J. actually got it right.
Agreed. Saw nothing new except the 3D. Seems like deja vu of episode IV
Lol. We'll just see about that. :))
I liked em all, although Jaja Binx killed the rewatchableness (it's sort of a word) of them - could only stand that indiotic addition the once.
Funny though, first time I watched the original, I liked Mark Hamil, but after that, not as much.
That's why I went watch it with a younger audience. They don't have any of the baggage the cranky old farts have regarding Lucas or Disney. They're just watching it with a fresh new prespective. And they're the movie-goers of the future and as long as they like it, they can look forward to the next episode in a couple years.
jusy waitin' fer my ride
I've not seen 7 yet, don't know when I'll get to but one thing's been bugging me about Star Wars...
The force (as mentioned by Han) in 4-6 is supposed to be some ancient dead religion, yet it was only the generation before that was flourishing with the force... doesn't seem all that long for something to be forgotten... That would be like ancient greek mythology happening durring our parent's time.
Couldn't agree more!
Well, having now seen it, and being one of those "cranky old farts" I have one thing to say...
"Chewie, We're Home"
(It was in the trailers, so it's not a spoiler.)
Excellent. Film. Making. I loved this flick. And like evilded777, I've gone to every premiere since The Empire Strikes Back--which, I think is the story that makes Star Wars, Star Wars--if that makes any sense at all . . . probably not. I felt that way until I saw The Force Awakens. Yes, there are some, maybe a few issues with the so-called macgiffin--but some of the greatest movies out of Hollywood feature macguffins . . . The Maltese Flacon, Pulp Fiction, The Godfather, The Lord of the Rings . . . I could go on. I love classic movies. And I think you can see it coming a mile away--but I didn't care, I wanted to see the characters do their stuff. And that's what made this movie powerful entertainment, the characters! Not over blown CGI that takes you right out of the story. When the movie ended, a friend, who grew up on the prequels commented: "The Prequels are dead. Love live Star Wars."
I am glad to see that people can review this much anticipated movie and not spoil it by revealing spoilers. I am one of those poor saps who are going to be waiting a few weeks before going to see it. I really don't like waiting in big crowds just to get in to see a movie, thoough I have done it in the past.
My 24 year old and I quite enjoyed it. Nor were we the only ones as there was an ovation at the end. A rare thing here in Athens mind you. I'd see it again if I had time.
I just saw it today and I thought there were a few pacing issues, a few plot points seemed sort of contrite, and some of the cast seemed a bit under utilized. That is the worst I can say about it though. BB8 was flippin' adorable, good story, and a solid addition to the Star Wars universe.
I've yet to see it. Thanks for the good reviews, sans spoilers. All thats left is for the 3D community to start releasing the mesh knock-offs.
That's easy to fix. Just live in a dying city populated by old farts like me and go 5 minutes before show time at noon on a Friday, even opening day, in a small theater, and find the theater only 10% full after you walked right up to the ticket booth and got your ticket with zero line. I did.
No wait for popcorn either.
The theater was tomb quiet throughout the entire showing, not a peep from the audience except for me when I pulled my fingers out of my ears after a particularly over volumed pre-show commercial and shouted out "TURN IT UP, I DIDN"T HEAR THAT" and everybody laughed.
Already there for fan art. Check out vanishing Point for a BB-8 model and first order stormtrooper armour. Also there are mesh ports from the game out on the web.

Cornucopia has StarWars promotion going on, and if you use VUE there are SW vehicles available in VOB format
My husband and I were very fortunate to score tickets to the first showing on Thursday night. We were both worried it would be another stinker like the prequels, but we found ourselves solidly enjoying it. It has better moments and worse moments, but what movie doesn't. We all have our own opinions, likes and dislikes, but personally I liked it. Lucas apparently said this isn't the movie he would have made, and considering he gave us Jar Jar Binks, I'm glad he didn't make it.
And I want a BB-8 of my very own.
I will admit, I was 20 years old when the first Star Wars film came out and it will always be my favorite. It spurred me on to have a successful career as a science fiction writer during the 90s. I've watched the other movies, but for me, they never captured the magic of the first one. I read the spoiler on this last movie and decided I don't really need to see it. I will watch it when it comes out on Amazon or comes out on dvd and then only because my hubby wants to see it. I may have turned into an old curmudgeon. :-) Denise
I'm another one who won't get to see it immediately. Going to wait until next weekend. I was 13 when the first Star Wars movie came out. I had no idea if it would be any good. At that time, our movie theater had summer passes and my mom always bought them for my sister and me. We went to every Saturday matinee show to see whatever was on the schedule regardless if we had heard anything about it. Before then, I don't think I had ever seen any sci fi. I loved it so much, I've seen every single Star Wars film in the theater ever since. Fell straight away in love with science fiction. Thankfully, all three of my boys love the movies and will be going with us to see this movie. This will be the first one that we will all get to see as a family together.
If my DH didn't like not standing in line for tickets, we would have seen it already. But, since I love him, I'm making the sacrifice to not see it immediately. I'm glad there haven't been any spoilers in this thread. I hope it stays that way. I've heard very good reviews both here and the little I've heard from other people. I haven't looked into it, but I heard there were even filters specifically for browsers for those who don't want to see any spoilers on the internet. You just type in the name of the movie and no links will appear when you do internet searches.
