Why is this so?

I know that G3 is all the rage and all but when you see products like http://www.daz3d.com/i13-spa-and-lounge-environment-with-poses where the provided poses are only for Genesis 3.. Pretty much puts us Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 users out in the cold, because if I buy something I want to be able to use all of it and not just part of it.. And since the only pose converter here only goes from G2 to G3, and by the looks not backwards compatible.. Ah well one less item to put on my wishlist..

It's called progress.
Nowadays there's few people complaining they can no longer go to a store to buy/rent a VHS casette when they want to see a movie, and instead have to download/stream it from the internet without even having to leave their home...
But I'm sure someone will put together a G3 poses to - older gen converter, so I doubt we can announce their deaths just yet.
I suppose but still when you see products cater for both the older and newer figures just makes me wonder sometimes.. But if any good has come out of the release of Genesis 3 for me is that I am spending a lot less money on content.. Since I have too much as it is and half of which I rarely use..
It's a prop. You can use it with any figure you want. Think of the G3 poses as an additional bonus to the prop. You don't have to pose your G3F characters manually. You can still use any of your G2 or even older characters with the prop, either posing them manually, or using any of the existing pose sets. You just won't be able to use the bonus poses that come with the set.
(And I'm saying this as someone who is still using only G2. I've invested too much into G2 to start all over with G3 again. Maybe at some later point...)
I'll eventually move to Genesis 3 within the next year or so -- it's not like my entirety of Gen2 (or even G1 and V4) content will be useless when I switch. There's just too many attractive things about Gen3: posing, facial bones, etc.
I mean, there's a reason why there's suddenly so much Gen3 content at other stores when they've previously catered to V4. It's because Gen3 is *that* significant in terms of tech.
Don't forget that even people who are using the figure the poses are made for will almost certainly need to make adjustments for the particular shape they have applied to their figure.
I only ever use the pre set poses as a starting point anyway. I always adjust them to fit exactly to what I need. I consider pre made poses a base to work from and a bit of a time saver in terms of not having to come up with a pose from scratch.
Most of the time poses work well enough for me (any pose for any gen model) it may not be exact, but it gets the basic pose in place, then a little tweaking...
I never really use the exact pose anyway, it's just a base starting point for me.
Yeah I do the same in using the pose as a base to work from but since they are for G3 well, anyways since the products scene is aimed primarily at Iray Rendering I will let this one go since I am very loathed to use Iray after my expensive (for me at least) video card died.. I don't want to chance it again with the video card that I have now since I don't have the cash to buy another card at the moment.. That and well most of the work I do is for comics so realistic looking renders are not needed..
If it is a new card, from one of the major manufacturers, you don't need to worry about buying a replacement...they all have good warranties. MSI and, EVGA are ones I've had personal experiance with and both were easy to work with on getting a replacement card quickly.
My last card was a EVGA 570GTX and well it was old but it was good.. Just a shame that Iray killed it as that was the last thing it was doing when it died.. Currently I have a Gigabyte 650GTX TI that was given to me and well don't want to go killing that right at this point in time..
You are right It progress , But Think how much more a vender could benefit if they were to support older generations along with the new content they create.. Like IronMan, adamthwaites , Poweage, just to name a few who do this at other 3d web sites. especially if all you do is sell poses and prop content.
Some of us people with money, find it silly to buy and support brand new figure content when we have tons of older content that we have barely used yet and still want to build our content folders for... "even though Daz did do its best this time to break the cross figure compatibility with g3f with older generations". . Those who just want to create & support for the newest content mesh are really missing the boat, because a vender that sells poses and props will be selling those for a long time to come if they offered the same poses for the generations past., So supporting all generation content poses makes sense to me. I have heard it a million times the saying there is no demand for older content is just a cop-out for saying I'm to lazy to support older generation, especially when the vender use to sell and support those older generations before the new ones came out. . Yes it maybe progress. But my opinon is that these venders who make poses are missing sales when not supporting all generations.. .At the price they charge I would think the the extra effort for the few extra sales they may get form customers that still use older generations would be worth it,.. but now days its all about turn over just get it out quick and move on. .. This is one of the biggest reasons I never started purchasing Genesis 3 content. it will only be a year or 2 and genesis 4 will be out. So if the vender does not mind missing a few sales because its to much work for them to support older generations like they did in the past then they do not really deserve my hard earned money. But that is just my opinion.
PS: VHS and cossete tapes may have gone with progress but its funny how people are returning back to vinly records.
For the record, I sit here in my computer creche surrounded by 4 VCR's.
Are they armed? Don't make any sudden moves... Help is on the way... As soon as I remember the number for 911, the appropriate authorities will be dispatched... Unless you are outside of the U.S.... Then you are out of luck. Then maybe try running or screaming loudly...
EDITED TO CORRECT- Okay, I see... Video Cassette Recorders... I took that to mean Vertebrae Crushing Robots... Big difference, sorry for the misunderstanding... Well, no biggie... I never found the number for 911 anyway.
REEDITED TO ADD- Apparently the number for 911, is 911... That's unnecessarily confusing.
+1 THIS!!!!...
And +1 THIS!!!!...
I agree with most of this...
If it is one or two poses to sit in a chair, a vehicle, or a hand pose to hold a weapon, then yes... They are "bonus" poses. However, if there are a whole set of poses included with a prop/set that are distinctly advertised as part of the product, then we're paying for them along with the product. And the majority of Genesis 3 poses are so frustratingly incompatible with previous figures that they (in most cases) do not even serve as a reasonable starting point, sadly.
Sure, I almost always do that as well. But Genesis 3 poses are so grossly incompatible with previous figures, so why would we Genesis 2 users be interested in paying premium prices for pose content that we would practically have to recreate from scratch? Use a V4 pose on Genesis (or vice versa)... a few "tweaks". Use a V4/Genesis pose on Genesis 2 (or vice versa)... a few "tweaks". Use a Genesis 3 pose on previous figures... A trip to a therapist.
I thoroughly agree with Ivy's take on the situation...
I just don't purchase anything from vendors who choose to go Genesis 3 only. Yes, it is painful to have to pass on some of the latest Ironman13 products lately. And to Ironman13's credit, she has put out some Genesis 2 content in recent months as well. However, I have found myself spending the money that I used to spend with vendors here at Daz elsewhere lately. I have been using the money (previously earmarked for pose vendors who are now in an exclusive relationship with Genesis 3) to purchase older poses and convert them using the most excellent V4-Genesis 2 pose converter. I also choose to support pose vendors such as Zeddicuss, who somehow manages to create incredible pose sets which support Genesis 3 AND Genesis 2 (Heck, and even sometimes V4 for pete's sake!) all while offering them at reasonable prices... So apparently, this can be done.
Progress IS great and most certainly necessary. Genesis 3 is really cool. Unfortunately, in the case of Genesis 3, it would cost me thousands of dollars and weeks to get me to the point where I could even begin to use her in my projects. The new tech is great, but unless I missed the part where it states Victoria 7's new feature of being able to crawl out of my computer and into my studio to help with deadlines or her ability to magically print money to justify the incredibly steep cost of upgrade... Then no Genesis 3 for me. Maybe I'll be a customer for Genesis 4. ;)
At least for a long time, the 500+ stuff on my wishlist will keep me happy even if everything is G3-only from now on.
So, hey.
How much more would you be willing to pay for the set if the vendor included poses for Genesis and Genesis 2? Would you expect poses to need further adjusting for the different people, such as Victoria 5 and 6, Stephanie 5 and 6, Olympia, Keiko, The Girl, Giselle, Teen Josie, Lilith, Mei Lin, Belle, Monique, etc?
From my own personal experiance - http://www.daz3d.com/model-me-this-poses-for-genesis-2-female-s - your best bet is to pick a few shapes and do those instead of the whole gambit of shapes. The financial gain is only imaginary. As long as there are poses for the base shape, they can be manually adjusted by the end user.
Well, frankly, the set is worth the price of admission (ok, I did get it for like $4... but I probably would have bought it for the higher price). The modeling, textures, materials and lights are stunning. The poses are just extras that help you use the real meat of the product.
Its rare for i13 to not include both generations of poses in something like this, but she must have reached the tipping point.
One of the best value-added vendors, IMO.
