Skies of IRadiance - clouds above or inside clouds

clouds above, or inside clouds. How do we know which presets are for which? Is this an experimental thing or am I missing something?

  • I bought the bundle of this product and really like it. The readme is less than useless. I've been setting the preview pane to NVIDIA Iray and setting the dome mode to finite sphere. Then I experiment with dome scale multiplier and dome orientation values.

If anyone has better ideas, I would appreciate them.

They are just named *Filename*A - L so I think you'll just have to have a look at them and decide for yourself which category they belong to. Looking at the thumbnails, some are rather obvious which category they are, but others, not so much. But I don't think it matters much and they all look great.

Files A-F are "in the clouds" and G-L are "below the clouds", with the only real difference being "below the clouds" having no clouds below the horizon.  I didn't want to draw much distinction because I don't want to imply that customers should only use "in the clouds" for Scene X and "below the clouds" for Scene Y.  Best way to use them is to load them up and see which one looks best to you for the scene you're currently working on regardless of what type they are.

If you ever need help with anything don't hesistate to submit a support ticket at the help desk, DAZ will try to help you and if they can't they will let me know.  You can also send me a PM on the forums but please understand that it can take me some time to respond.  I never mind helping when I am able to do so.

How did you get the cloud effects in the foreground? Postwork?

The background and buildings for those images are separate layers, the foreground clouds are just a mask on the building layer painted with Ron's Steam and Smoke brushes.

    Dimension Theory

Thanks for the info. I did actually figure it out about 45 mins - 1hr after I posted. Yes, the first 6 being in the clouds, the last 6 being below. Thanks again though. smiley

  • Oh my god why isn't this set up properly I have no sphere it does absolutely nothing.

Why would you put this up after making other easy to use products

  • OK I guess there is no preview mode

You can find them in render settings -> presets. Use them from there.

Or in the Smart content. Render-Settings -> Iray

And to see the skies in the viewport you need to set the viewport mode to Nvidia Iray (shown in attached image). So all in all, you can preview it, it provides light. It does everything it should.

I'll also throw in a test render I did for another thread, just for good measure.
