    Didn't appear to work. I did exactly as you said. First pic (from left to right) I drew random black lines on the transparent layer.....the second pic was where I unhid the white layer and saved it as a jpg. .......third pic is where I added it into the 'Sexy Top' folder.....forth pic is where I opened it with the diffuse color in Daz and the fifth pic is the outcome. There was no holes so I clearly did something wrong.

  • You have put the new edited image into the block labeled Diffuse.  Put it into Opacity instead (8 items lower) and reset the Diffuse to what it was.

    This....and seriously, walk before you run..try the maps I provided on a plain primative so you understand what's doing what.

    Ok so it works sort of. (pic shown) it appears there is not much in the way of holes even though I did a new map with more pronounced holes and it barely comes out when I render it (2nd pic) and its all just weird?!

  • It rather looks as if the top is double layered, in which case you will need to make your transmap cover both layers.

    Hmm.. maybe what Richard said...

    Go bigger with the slashes.. AS IN, make half the opacity map a slash. Stop trying to get to the finished product FIRST.  Go very big so you can figure out what the hang up is, THEN go precise.

    Yeah, it looks like it is a double layer shirt, and you will have to match up your cutout textures with the correct placement on the inner layer as well.  But, it is hard to tell without seeing all the variables in your work (UV's, texture map placement, and etc.).

     

    If you get to frustrated with the transparency technique, you could venture a try with creating real rips/tears via topology, Transfer Utility, morph targets, and if looking for better realism, some dynamic cloth morph target work to seal it.

     

    Here is a quick example I did a while back, sans the dynamic cloth MT's.  Just a simple slash in a swashbuckler's shirt (he's gonna' loose).  The first image shows the original and the modified (slashed) shirts, and the second is with the morph target applied:
