Morph3D

Never heard anything about it until now and the site seems to be pretty bare bones with no forums yet, but it seems like some people around here might know some more details.

So, aside from the obvious that they're basically Daz-built characters and clothing to use in Unity/Unreal game creation, any more detailed / useful info tips how to, etc?

Oh so there are. But they're all old and dead and don't contain any information we don't already have from the website itself. Now that Daz is actually sending emails out about it, I thought there might be more coming to light.

I would also like to have some more permanent thread about Morph3D and usage of Daz3D models in game engines.

Personally at the moment, I am interested in creating animations in Unity using Morph3D and Daz3D assets.

I could also provide some tips about usage of the models in Unity, if someone is interested in that stuff.

Compatibility! Interoperability! If it’s not compatible with DAZ Studio, I’m not interested.

Others may be disinterested in anything not compatible with Unreal, and may be curious about this new venture.

But, for the DS user, the essential question is: how will Morph3D offerings link in with daz3d offerings?
If it’s truly a branch of daz3d (as opposed to a spinoff), then why shouldn’t Morph3D appear on the daz3d splash page??

Unity's been one of those things that's been on my to do list - this might just get me to try it out a bit sooner. Currently I'm obsessed with modelling in Blender.

I've done some limited 2D game creation, but nothing 3D. Still, $35 for a fairly customisable male and female character creation engine for 3D games that's built to work in a very popular free engine seems like a decent buy in to me (and there are free samples if you just want to test.)

Now... what you actually do with them or the specific details of how the M3D system works, I have no idea. The website doesn't really seem to do documentation.

    Another one of those!
DAZ Studio + Blender is more than I can master in one lifetime; so, Unity?
At most, I'll glance at what other people do with it. frown

Well Blender and especially Unity offer a ton of documentation in various forms, so that's great. I meant more how Morph3D fits into it all.

Daz Studio documentation is ... fantastic for first time users for the first day or so. Morph3D products come as a unity asset file and seem to assume you know exactly what to do with them.

I'm more than a bit confused but my main question is can one use the Morph 3d products to sell to gamers? Like build a specific character?  I am going to have to go find out how it all work but that's the first question I have

  • IceDragonArtIceDragonArt Posts: 12,760

Well I got the free packs because well, I figure I will play with this a bit and see what happens but I am going to have to hunt down more information on how it works etc.  Can't find much of anything on what to do with them

can it be used to create new morphs for studio?

Morph3D are for game design only. Hopefully they won't link in with DAZ offerings since DAZ offerings are designed and sold for another purpose. It's my understanding that they are seperate entities, run by the same company and I am glad if that is the case as i feel they should be seperate. There are plenty of places to discuss game design and hopefully if Morph3D takes off they will have there own forum. last time I checked Unity has their own forums http://forum.unity3d.com/ and Morph3D are active there.

Probably not a good choice that the Morph3d people are offering assets that are derived from and/or look like DAZ assets as it confuses users thinking they are one in the same and it opens the doors for users to abuse the use of actual DAZ assets

What I want to know is if it means that Genesis can go back to being built as highly detailed models with more complicated rigging since Daz will have an active Game Engine avenue figure. G3 is better than G2 in many ways (bending, HD details, face rigging for expressions? arm/leg texture resolution) but also not in some others (base detail for muscle definition, anyone who doesn't have HD making ability, backwards compatibile UVs, rigging?)

I do not agree with opinion about abuse the use of Daz assets.

If you do not publish the game made with them,

you can still use Daz assets to make nice animations with the Unity or Unreal engine

and hope the users are aware about it.

If you wish to publish the game made with Daz assets,

you can purchase the Daz developer license.

Wow Glad I found this thread I almost bought Morph 3D I thought it was something I could use in DAZ Studio.  Not into developing games yet.  But will take a look as I see BAsic Unity is free and there are a couple of free assists.

    Greetings,

I'm anguishing about the morph3d stuff...  I love the idea of taking some of those and putting them in a game (actually a VR system would appeal to me the most!) but I'd feel silly if I bought it, and then...did nothing with it.  The free versions make it more tempting to try out...

They really are pretty completely separate from the DAZ3D stuff.  I just wish there were a decent VR setup that I could pick up and play with. Maybe next year...

FYI - Unity also has it's own store with free assets as well.

Thank you!  I don't necessarily have any desire to build a video game.  But game characters?  Yes.  I am a big gamer and have thought about character creation on and off for about 20 years lol.  But life, work, raising kids etc never left much time to do anything about it.  Last kid has 18 months left in college though so I have a bit more time on my hands to explore things a bit more.

Can't you just build a bunch of game characters using Studio already if you just want to do the making the characters part?

It's kind of weird how the Daz email says that the MCS Male pack is 65% off and then below it says everything they have is 65% off as a separate message.

Just wondering who all is involved in Morph 3D.

It's got me wondering because since I got that newsletter from DAZ there hasn't been one new item in the store so are all of DAZ's resources going to this now?  If so then what's the future of the Genesis line.  I mean we just got M7 and after a couple of days of releases nothing, nada.... no ting.  Concerning.  The Morph 3D movement looks very promising to me, looking over what I can see but the figures will def need some upscaling to use them in high end art work pieces.

Morph3D are a company set up by DAZ 3D for gamers.   The content is for use in the Unity/Unreal game engines, and is NOT designed for use in DAZ Studio, so there are no DAZ Studio resources going away.   It is just another venture by DAZ 3D and does not affect DAZ Studio users in any way as far as I know.

Just seems strange that there have been zero releases in the store.  Also I signed up and when I did my logon for DAZ3D expired and when I signed back in here the one from that portal expired so the two sites logons SEEMS very connected.

    (Threads merged.)

It's Thanskgiving week-end in the US, and they're having a mega storewide sale.

Yea, just seemed strange that there were NO new items.  Usually DAZ will throw us a bone, at least one new product to keep us chomping but I guess they either have something big planned, again, or yea, it's a holiday week and it's just what it is.

M7 looks just fine in Unity.  Is there a special app I need to download for Unity (I'm thinking along the lines of DAZ Studio)...... ??

If you wish to export characters or any other items from Daz Studio,

the FBX 2014 binary format is just fine.

One need to adjust materials in Unity (especially hairs and eyes),

because of a different rendering engine. Normal maps needs also to be

copied additionally, because FBX format does not carry them at all

(at least when exporting items from Daz Studio).

Why does it look strange, the skin and the hair especially? Is it that you didn't work on the lights and textures?

Yes, the hair and the skin need further tweaks.

I just want to show quickly, that the Unity can handle Michael 7 exported from Daz Studio.

I am not a specialist and finding the more realistic shaders for Unity is not that easy.

  • There are skin shaders for Unity.

Last year I was playing with Daz characters in Unity prior to the Morph3D thing. Getting models into Unity is pretty easy as it goes.

This is a Daz character I exported from Daz after decimating her. Then in Unity I rigged her and applied animations to her. It's just a quick experiment. The difficult part of this was my building a morph handling system to do the lip sync. Unfortunately at the time I didn't have a very good chatbot to connect to her, so the dialog is not that good, but it demonstrates that it can be done real time.

You can skip ahead in the video, the first part was just me getting lost !

  • The animation was a bit jittery but I managed to fix that in the end.
