DIM default Filters...

what are they? They show in my list to download and install, but the DIM already seems to let me sort by different methods, so I'm not sure....are they maybe for an earlier version of the DIM?

In the "Ready to Download" tab of the Install Manager there's a button labelled "Download Filters". Click it and a window will pop up showing you the types of files that the Install Manager can offer you (Bryce, Daz, Photoshop etc.).
The item labelled "Install Manager Default Filters" in your download list is the latest list of these file types. It's only a few kilobytes, so download it and you'll be up to date.
"Download Filters" are a predefined list of options that correspond to Tags that can be assigned to a package. These options are used to control whether packages that are assigned a particular tag will be displayed in the list on the Ready to Download Page. This list of options is hard-coded in the source code and compiled into the application—which options actually exist in the list cannot be changed through the installation of any package or through modification of any configuration file.
The "Install Manager Default Filters" package consists of many individual pedefined filters which can be used to help you narrow down what you are looking for—see Advanced Filtering for more detailed information. Once the package is installed, applying a filter (i.e. populating the Filter Field with the stored text) is as simple as clicking the Filter Menu Button and then choosing one of the filters from the menu(s). You also have the ability to construct your own filters and save them to the menu.
Sorting (i.e. changing the order of items in a list) and filtering (i.e. changing which items are in the list to begin with) are very different, but they operate on the same thing (i.e. items in a list).
