question re Colour Picker for DAZ Studio

http://www.daz3d.com/color-picker-for-daz-studio

Just making sure I've understood this correctly: with this product, I can select the eyebrow colour on a figure and use that to change the diffuse colour of hair, without leaving DAZ Studio and opening Photoshop? (as an example)

Or if I wanted to change the specular colour of hair, I can pick up the actual full hair colour, and then change it slightly to get the specular colour....and not just have to guess the approximate colour of the hair?

Yes, you can select any colour without leaving Daz and use it on something else. I grabbed it as soon as I saw it. Will come in useful for my texturing when I want to match a colour with a pattern etc.

I am running DAZ studio 4.7 with Windows 7 -  64 bit and Net Framework 4.5. I purchased Color Picker and DIM installed it but I can't seem to find the color picker button. I don't have a tap labeled Scripts as shown in the video but I do have a tap labeled Building/Scripting and it doesn't seejm to be there.

What am I doing wrong? Please help.

    Thanks,

       Charlie

Edited to add: I have to be away from the computer for a bit. I'll check back in a few hours

I'm not ready to install and try 4.8 yet. The product page doesn't say that 4.8 is required; but if it is then I'm returning color picker.

the color picker button can be found in the scripts folder of your install runtime.

here is a pic showing where it is located.

I recommend that once you find it, you right click and select "create custom action"  that will put it in your scripts menu for easier access.

Have you looked at the Demo on YouTube?

  • Seems pretty useful in matcing colors in DAZ studio scenes.

However, one thing I noticed when doing a screen grab is that an image of the color picker box is included in the screen grab and may obscure the area I want to pick from. I know I can move the box around in DAZ Studio but this sometimes means I have to go back and- move it then do another screen grab. I suppose with practice I'll get used to moving it out of the way first. But as a suggestion for a future release / update, you might consider making the color picker box minimzed in the screen grab.

  • It is not available in Daz Script to hide/minimize the script window. I checked :)

I know what you are saying.  Yes, that makes it a little more challenging because you need to remember to move the box, but in the grand scheme of things.... it's not that bad.  Because we NOW HAVE A COLOR PICKER IN DS!!

This jumped into my cart as soon as I saw this thread. I always wondered why D/S didn't have a color picker; it seems like the kind of basic tool that any art program should have.

I have it but I am not at my computer. It looks cool.

What do you mean by "hide the script window"?

Another issue is that it only grabs my primary monitor. There doesn't seem to be any way to selectively choose what's in the screen-grab. On top of that, I have Snag-it (commercial screen-grab software) mapped to the print screen key, so it got called instead.  The color picker window was blank. In order to get it work, I had to disable Snag-it.

However... I just discovered a work-around, that also lets me use my 2nd monitor. Copied SnagIt's screen grab to the clipboard and it magically appeared in colour picker's screen grab window.

I don't have an issue with multiple printers. It lets me move over to my secondary so I'm not sure what is up with that.
