Genesis 2 Legacies: Stylish questions

I am trying to decide whether to buy the product Genesis 2 Legacies for Genesis 3 Female: Stylish, but I have a few questions.

1. Do you need to own the G2 figures (Giselle 6, Keiko 6, Lilith 6, and Ninive 6) in order to use this product?

2. I am a bit concerned about this in the description, particularly the highlighted sentence: "The shapes have been carefully recreated from Genesis 2, perfected in ZBrush to get the closest match to the original as possible. A less dense mesh in Genesis 3 means some detail gets lost in a simple morph transfer, as well as distortion in areas such as the mouth and eyes. Each Legacy Shape has been meticulously modified to look as stylish as her Genesis 2 version." Does this mean that the product elimitnated the distortions or that the distortions cannot be eliminated? And just how bad are they?

3. What is the point of the "optimized version of the Genesis 2 Base Female"?

4. How well does the G3F textures work on these G2F morphs?

Thank you!

  • 1. No, they are self-contained products as far as I can tell

    2. The bolded section is talking about using the auto-transfer tools, explaining why it's worth paying for this custom job.

    3. Since tghe original shapes applied to G2F a version of the G2F shaped for G3F is needed to provide a base for the G3F versions.

    4. There may be some stretching or compression. If you have a G3F character with its own UVs, can you see stretching when you apply a texture using the base UVs to the shape (or vice versa)? If not you probably won't notice any slight stretching in the G3F textures on these shapes - most people don't have problems mixing-and-matching textures and shapes.

Hi WolfSpirit... I'd be happy to answer your questions.

    1.  You do NOT need to own the G2 figures to use this product.  So, in a way, you are getting four Genesis 2 characters (that you may not have already) for a very good price with all of the beautiful bending and expression capabilities of Genesis 3.

    2.  What this statement means is that a "perfect" match to Genesis 2 shapes is not possible because the mesh is quite different, so for example the lip lines might be tighter on Genesis 2 because there are more polygons in that area than Genesis 3.  Using a simple transfer of the shapes using the Transfer Utilitity (which many people do themselves) will not be able to transfer that tight lip line automatically because of the lack of geometry in that area.  I took the transferred shapes into ZBrush and moved geometry around a bit, refining shapes that were not transferred cleanly and tightened up feature to get them much closer to the original Genesis 2 versions than is possible with a simple Transfer Utiltity operation.  So the distortions are eliminated with this product, yes.

    3.  The optimized version of Genesis 2 Base Female is so that anyone wishing to transfer additional morphs from Genesis 2 to Genesis 3 can transfer them to a female base that does not have the issues that the autofit clone has (which is what most people are using to make their transfers).  The autofit clone does not need to be perfect to simply make clothing fit to Genesis 3, therefore it is not the best base to use for transferring morphs from Genesis 2 to Genesis 3.  For example, the autofit clone has messed up teeth and the fingernails and toenails are inverted (flipped normals).  Additionally, the eyeballs have lost some roundness and the eyelashes are not perfect.  In the optimized base female, I have corrected those issues.

    4.  G3F textures work beautifully on the Legacy Shapes.  All of the promotional images you see have Genesis 3 textures on them.

I hope I answered your concerns enough to help you decide whether you want to purchase the set.  If you like it, there are 2 other sets in my store covering Victoria 6, AIko 6, Gia, and many of the other Genesis 2 Females.  Additionally, I will have a version for the males when Genesis 3 Male is released to the store.  It will contain Michael 6, Gianni 6, Scott 6, Darius 6, and Lee 6

Richard and Slosh, thanks so much for the quick and concise answers! And I will indeed be checking your store for the others, Slosh, and waiting for the G3M.

I just want to correct Richard on one point... for question 3.  When I put these sets together, I eliminated the need to dial in Genesis 2 Base Female to use the Legacy Shapes.  Since the character morphs in Genesis 2 don't have the base female included in the morph (they are saved as only the delta, or change, from the base to the new shape), I made the Genesis 3 versions work the same way, thus eliminating the need for more sliders to be activated.  Otherwise, if a user wanted to transfer a custom character for say Aiko 6, they need only transfer the custom morph to the head and/or body of the Aiko 6 Legacy shape.  It would be very difficult to transfer the custom shape to Genesis 3 with both the base female legacy and the Aiko 6 legacy dialed in.  This is another advantage to this product, which I didn't think to point out in the description.

  • This is getting better and better. = )

Now.....can you morph my credit cards so all of this will fit on them? lol

I have two of the producs Slosh has done, and although I don't use much they do work very nicely, ty.

  • Hey Slosh, while you're answering questions about your wonderful Legacy Shapes products, maybe you can help me with mine... I bought the Legacy Classics shapes in part to use the improved G2F morph to transfer my G2F characters to G3F without the distortion that the default G2F clone for G3F has. I'm not quite sure how to do that, though...

Do I designate the Legacy G2F shape as a clone morph? If so, how do I do that? Would the clone morph be inaccurate because G3F with the Legacy G2F shape is not in the G2F base zero position [arms are in different positions]? How would I address that? Is that a matter of moving the arms on G3F to duplicate the zero position of G2F?

Any pointers would  be greatly appreciated.

P.S. All of your products are super awesome, and I especially like SPEX and Dolled Up. You have a gift for making stylish and useful products!

Modern Wizard... when you are transferring your morphs, be sure to do the head morphs separate from the body morphs.  I don't know the exact reason this makes better transfers, but it does.  When transferring head morphs, in the target area, choose "Morph" then select the Genesis 2 Female Head (or Genesis 2 Female Body if that is what you are working on).  Likewise, if you are transferring a morph that uses Victoria 6, Girl 6 or Aiko 6, etc. as the base character, you would choose the head that corresponds.  As for the arms, I set the pose on the arms to match G3F base pose, and since the morphs being transferred are just the changes in the position of the geometry, and not a change in pose, they should transfer without any modification on your part.  Should you happen to be transferring a morph that is different for some reason (some vendors may change the base pose, maybe), just make sure that you use Adjust Orientation when you Adjust Rigging to Shape.  Otherwise things like the fingers and toes can get really messed up.

There is a great thread in the forum started by Kattey that has tons of useful information in much greater detail than I could give you here.  If you haven't checked it out already, I highly recommend it.

I bought your other two legacy sets for G3F and will buy this, went on cart yesterday, checking out today,  I somehow forgot about the advantage of the G2F morph helping with the conversions, I was looking at my transfers I did a while with morphs and was disappointed in the eye deformities, I think I'm gonna try transfering the morphs again to see if they'll look better with the G2F morph from the other legacy sets, and see if the characters you missed will transfer decently too, or at least good enough till the new genx is released,

thanks, goose :)  I hope it works out for you.  No matter what, I don't think any transfers are going to work perfectly, without some modification in outside programs.  I'm curious to see how Dimension3d is going to deal with this in GenX 3

It didn't work out very well lol, but that's ok, I have enough to keep me occupied, cant wait till G3M is real eased ang your sets for him are released, will be an instant buy, any chance of a Dolled Up for Genesis 3 and Iray? ;)

  • SloshSlosh Posts: 2,391

Oh that's an interesting request.  I almost forgot I ever made that, lol.  Not a bad idea, though, with Iray.  Some china and porcelain materials might be nice.  I will put it on the Idea Board.

Awesome, hope to see it in the future ;) I'm starting to get some morphs to transfer, here is Victoria 3, the eyes are still messed up but I've going it's less noticeable with different textures
