Flat transparent PNG to a 3D extruded object?

Hi all, I am battling with this - I have a cross in transparent PNG format, which I need to turn into a 3D object that I can position and turn so it looks real, not flat. I have tried a couple of things in Xara 3D and Xara Producer but they keep the background, so it turns into 3D but as a block. Anyone know how I can achieve this please? Getting desperate! lol! - Thank you! :)

  • Could you not use an inverted version of the image (white for the cross, black for the rest) as an opacity map to hide the background? The other simple option would be to use a black-and-white map as both opacity and as displacement (minimum 0, maximum the thickness desired) on a plane primitive, with (if you need a solid back) a second plane primitive with just the opacity to cover the opening.
