There is a new security update today that was reissued (meaning they screwed-up somewhere). Update so that you don't get another surprise reboot.
Microsoft re-issues security patch after reports of bugs, crashes
Updated: The faulty patch affected mostly Windows 7 users, the company said.

Speaking of Windows updates, is anyone else seeing two .NET updates that just won't go away? I've run them at least three times, but they still come back again afterwards.
And now there's an extra Win7 security update in the queue — very, very unusual to see one suddenly turn up a couple of days out of pattern.
ISTR something like this happened before, a year or so ago. Not exactly instilling confidence in allowing an "always trust, always permit" update system...
The extra Win7 security update is the reissued update for the one that broke people's systems on Tuesday. (Including mine. Very entertaining, that.) Supposedly, this fixes the issues that one caused. I may wait for a while to install it again, though.
Hmm, well, nothing broke here.

Any idea what's happening with the .NET stuff?
Indeed.
I don't know what is worse: that Microsoft is turning the PC into an appliance controller by them, or that so many of their customers are ignorant or indifferent enough to accept it or even consider it a good thing.
First MS shits the bed, then get congratulated for doing a halfassed job cleaning their own mess? It'd be hilarious except I really don't like what this means for the future of the PC. If I want a frelling console I'll buy one; my $2000 work/playstation will never be theirs.

I Agree
They are so aggressive with their next edition especially now with Win10
I reckon most people would prefer to still be on XP if they still supported and sold it.
I've got the opposite problem. I couldn't update windows 10 (insider) for so long I eventually got a warning that if I don't update, my machine would start restarting every hour or something. I tried everything until the install broke and I finally had to reinstall. (one of the errors I got was "Something happened" That's it. No more info. ) Last night I left my machine to update for 6 hours, downloading the latest update. It downloaded the entire thing, and was waiting for a restart, which I did. Everything seems fine, but one of the new features wasn't working, so I then went back into updates, and the update I spent the whole night downloading is back there, with error printed beneath it.
I have never had so many problems with an Operating system before. I wish Daz would release a linux version, then we can finally be rid of windows forever.
Moving to Linux will not yield more business for DAZ 3D it wll be just for a select few, really. I doubt that there is enough of a userbase there to make development of a Linux version a wise business decision.
From what I have read getting a "Something happened" error message is worse than ever getting a blue screen of death. I hope I never encounter one.
You do realize that a very large portion of "Professional" Studios use Linux for rendering and content creation? There is quite a market for Linux, however, supporting another OS for a team as small as DAZ has would be quite a challenge.

I can read many signs, constant sales, etc. The thing is we can't really get into it without our posts being removed, too many speculations. I will say that I highly doubt developing a Linux version will actually bring in more business to justify the extra resources. I see it as something a select few want that are comfortable with Linux and would really like to ditch Windows. But even then I highly doubt that even those people can ditch Windows altogether. There are just too many must have programs in too many fields for even that to be so easy for a lot of people.
I guess we'll see soon enough.

Actually there's nothing out there that can't be done in Linux
Microsoft even uses Linux for their product development
It was my understanding the only way to control Windows 10 updates was to purchase the Pro version. It's not available to control on the free version.
I bought a new PC with Windows 10 64 bit professional. It has never changed my settings, never auto-updated when I least expected it and always asks me when it wants to update. I can tell it to go away but make sure that I update before I end my session that day. Never had a problem.
Figures though, Microsoft wants you to PAY for the privilege.
I wonder what it's written in, and how much extra work it would be, seeing as how they are already using Opengl. I suppose at the moment there isn't much incentive, but I've heard that Andoid is swallowing chrome and coming to desktops in 2017, which should bring a huge userbase with it, and thus a lot more casual users- the kind who would probably be interested in "easy to make" 3d art. It may be an idea for Daz to start getting something ready.
A recent Update left my screen Green... I had to recailbrate it...
But is the software available? I recall Xara tried to port their excellent Xara X to Linux, but that (open source) project died quickly.
If you upgrade through Windows Update, depending on the edition of Windows you have installed, you will be upgraded to that edition.
Windows 7 Starter/Home Basic/Home Premium > Windows 10 Home
Windows 7 Professional > Windows 10 Pro
Windows 7 Ultimate > Windows 10 Pro
Windows 7 Enterprise > Windows 10 Enterprise
Windows 8 Core (Single Language) > Windows 10 Home
Windows 8 Pro > Windows 10 Pro
Windows 8 Enterprise > Windows 10 Enterprise

So I should consider it a privilege to be Microsoft's customer?
I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Since that's not a statement of MS policy but simply a user comment neither reaction is relevant.
My Windows 10 Pro just started downloading a major upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586. Today is Saturday, how odd. Anyone else seeing this?
Update: Looks like this build update started two days ago. I am only seeing it now.
Yeah they started it on Thursday just now showing up for me as well
As someone who was completely using Linux as my only OS for about three or four years until I discovered DS, I would love to see DS ported to Linux. DS is the only reason I have Windows 7 again right now. If DS ran reliably under Linux, I would SO give up Windows completely again in a heartbeat. It took a lot of time and effort, but I found reliable replacements for every single piece of software I was using until this 3D bug hit me. Most of the people I know run at least a dual boot system if not a strictly Linux box. A Windows only OS is definitely in the minority with the people I come in contact. This stupid update to fix an update hit me the other night, too, even though I thought I had updates turned off again. Totally lost render that was 2 - 3 hours in and only about 40% done. I woke up to a reboot system and no render.

Seems some progress is being made
It upgrades the OS...same routine as the upgrade from 8.1 to 10. It's a major headache. It failed first time on all three of my Windows 10 computers. I believe, it failed because the other updates/patches sitting on the machines had to be completed first. Second try downloading this update resulted in two out of my three of my computers got stuck at 0% downloading. I ended up researching issue and used the command prompt as Admin to shut down; then restart update services workaround to get the updates to install. I also ended up having to reinstall my dell backup and recovery on my main computer since update apparently broke it...now I'm getting bugged to redo my backup/recovery media since the backup/recovery utility is a newer version.
Windows 10 is a hostile work environment.
It's now pretty much completely unreliable, we just don't know when it's going to do some kind of auto install/reboot update stuff , and if those auto installed updates are going to work or not.
My desktop completed the update with no issues. I am waiting on the notebook, it will take a lot longer since it is a slower computer.
I've tried to download that three times already, but the download fails- sometimes at around 30%, sometimes at around 90.
Sorry to hear the problems some of you are having. I just finished updating my notebook and it went without problems, too. I,also, just finished updating to the latest VirtualBox and the sound now works thru VirtualBox. For me, the sound hasn't worked with VirtualBox since Windows 7 and the previous Windows 10 upgrade. It could be that Oracle fixed the issue or the new Windows 10 programmers squashed a long time bug. I have no way of knowing.
My Start menu jump lists are gone. Anyone else seeing this? I use StartIsBack.
Seems like this problem is another issue for many and it looks like this time it hit me. I looked into the registry and all the keys are there for this feature to be working.
This is frustrating, another useful feature nuked from my Windows setup.
It would seem that the problem is StartIsBack. I disabled it and when using the horrid Windows Start menu I can see the Jump Lists. Looks like an update of StartIsBack is needed.
But what crap is the Windows 10 Start menu! Eeuuueewww!
