There's a 30 second timer. Likely to prevent spam ratings.
I see them as a waste of our Daz+ membership fees. Complaining about endless black room freebies in the Daz+ forum has had no impact. We keep getting them. I doubt if the new rating system will have any impact either, but I'm determined to express my dislike for them anyway.
So... you're going to shove a middle finger in the face of, and the average rating for, the merchant who made those for DAZ... because you don't like cyberpunk themes? Not because they don't work, or are low quality, but because you don't like cyberpunk?
I actually miss Jack Tomalin's gates
the bus stop shelters, not so much
while I wouldn't go so far as to dislike freebies, I understand the frustration with too much of the same
I will probably just "like" stuff I really like
the dislikes I will reserve for the objectifying "clothing' if it can be called that, that sometimes on rare occasions is forced on me in bundles
fortunately most of that stuff is sold separately
like YouTube, I really don't care for a dislike button
prefer addressing the issues in the forum where actual feedback can be read
To me, they're low effort, sparse works. They don't compare favorably to your work, and I've got a bunch of your creatures, outfits and props.
But hey, we don't have to justify a thumbs up or a thumbs down. I'll say such an over simplified rating system is also sparse and low effort. The systems at rendo and render hub both have standard stars and allow one to comment on why a rating is what it is.
Exactly. Frankly, I don't understand the invective against these items. If I find them dark, it's just a matter of a few clicks to add light to make them a bit more versatile. They're easy to kitbash. As far as the effort put into them, they're free. Not only that, but there's a weekly free item as well as a monthly one. Any theme will be repetitious, at least to someone. I find the settings are a lot more useful and interesting than the trinkets/knik-knaks offered during the Holi-DAZ sale, but I'm sure there are those who have a use for them, and I'm happy for them.
@3dsaga the holiday trinkets are truly free. Membership freebies are a benefit of paid membership. They used to be actual DO items. Now they're often these minimalistic rooms and corridors. And they're only free for a short time. After that, they're paid store items.
Thanks for your perspective on the membership freebies. The current type of free items were already in place when I joined DAZ+/Premier so I didn't experience the decline in value of the free items. I don't expect much for free, and while they're a factor in my choice to be a Premier member, they're a minor part of my decision.
I seldom find user submitted star rating systems particularly useful, because people seem to gravitate heavily towards 1 star or 5 stars, at which point it just ends up effectively being a thumbs-up vs. thumbs-down system.
To some extent that's because people with middling opinions are less likely to be motivated to leave a review, but I also feel like a lot of people leave 5 star ratings that aren't warranted. When it comes to customer reviews, sellers often treat 3 or even 4 star ratings as an insult; I've often had cards with things I've ordered that say things like that if you're not going to leave a five star review, contact the seller first to deal with the problem. No, a three star view is... completely average. It says "this product meets reasonable expectations". Five star should be for "this product met my wildest dreams and any way that it could be improved would border on nitpicking", but it doesn't get used like that.
I often use my example of GCJellyfish here. Most of GCJellyfish's stuff is so well thought out it seems like it's two steps ahead of what I want, but it's frequently four steps ahead and I haven't realised it yet. In their Rising Sun environment, there's a small kitchen at the back of the set that gets one promo on the product page. In this kitchen, you can open every drawer, you can turn all the knobs on the gas cooker, you can set the time on the microwave and oven to anything you like, you can open the soap dispenser in the dishwasher, you can rearrange all of the shelves in the refridgerator. There are other dedicated kitchen sets where I have had to strip out the ovens from them in order to replace them with the oven from this set, because the set I wanted to use had the oven door welded closed, making it useless for the scene I was trying to do. This is someone I have high expectations of and still often underestimate. That is the yardstick here for how good a product can be. It's far beyond my expectations of the average vendor on the store.
When it comes down to it, a system of "I would recommend it" or "I would recommend against it" is about all you can get users to use reasonably consistently to each other.
I get that, but once I have rated an item (which I did), the 'Be the first to rate this product' is no longer relevant and yet, it's still shown even after a hard refresh during which it feels like the server is actually looking for which text it has to show.
Nope, you've got that wrong. This is not a cyberpunk theme issue. I have purchased Daz cyberpunk products that I like just fine. The new ratings choices are only "I like it' or "I don't like it". I don't like these black, barely lit, Daz+ freebies, because they require extreme retexturing and relighting to be of any use to me. Some are not even scaled appropriately for Daz characters. They are so dark that characters or props added to the environment are barely visible. The products are very repetitive: black rooms with white neon strips, over, and over, and over. I and other people have expressed this negative reaction to the abundance of these dark black freebie products in the Daz+ forum. It made no difference. So, feeling ignored and dismissed by the Daz+ team, I am using the official new rating system to register my dislike for these products. Don't think I have any illusions that it will make an iota of difference, though.
@barbult +1000
Same here. It's not a dislike of cyberpunk. I do a lot of cyberpunk art, and I play the latest version of the classic RPG. Heck, I've even used a couple of those neon sets/components. And, while last week's wasn't cyberpunk (just drab, dark colors), I even made a post that I would be using a lot of the props after changing the shaders.
It's totally "I am tired of rooms, neon or not!"
Also, since Holi-daz was brought up. While some of the freebies were silly & repetitive, others aren't. Remember the fuss over the Disappearing Cute Critter? I have some that are go to props, and others are simple tools. Then there are the $3 door busters. Many, many were new, much higher quality characters that had multiple options, were worth the MSRP, and showed off the PA's artistry better than the current crop of $3/$5 Shooting Stars.
For a couple years now I've had to refresh every product page at least once to get it to recognize what I'd purchased. This Product Owned feature seems to have solved that but I'll still refresh any page with Add To Cart at least once, out of habit.
Try clearing your DAZ cookies. They might be stale (pun intended).
Can you rate returned items? Otherwise I don't see the point - if you buy them and keep them I'd suppose you like them. If you can rate returned items, a 1-5 rating would work better.
I "purchase," then hide them in DIM. This is like my toothpaste, which went from paste to mush to goo to half the size and twice the price.
I just "liked" some of my favourites but after 5 kept getting the error
so probably not going to bother with this
I think some people get stuck with products they don't like, because they don't get around to trying them before the returnable period ends. If you purchase a product, don't like it, enter the dislike rating, and then return it within 30 days, I wonder if your rating sticks or gets removed.
I also wonder if this rating system is an experiment that will prove useless and be removed in the future. So far, it is cumbersome to use, with all the error popups. I think people will soon start to just ignore it.
Definitely not cookies, but it could be a browser/extensions thing specific to my setup (Brave, NoScript, uBlock). I imagine Daz serves up a cached product page and then runs client side script to fetch personalized details, and something causes the personalization to run too slow or fast. It's weird that refreshing the page once or twice always fixes it.
The new Product Owned label has so far been accurate on the first page load. But I still have to refresh most/random listings to get Required Products to show the (owned) label.
Stale cookies are just as yummy, this fox isn't picky. :)
Has anyone seen a product that actual has a rating? So far I have only ever seen: "Not enough ratings yet".
I guess some of the base bundle products have the best chance of hitting the minimum number of ratings needed.
Im sure a lot of us have Victoria 9 .. go rate her and see if the dang thing works lol!
I've also kept at least 1 item because I was refused store credit because it was paid for partly/totally with a Daz+ coupon. Never mind I was out the coupon for that month.
I don't know if I will bother with the ratings.
Probably true for many. Also for me in the past, but at some point I started to check everything within the 30 days.
That would be dishonest, not least because a downvote from a customer who has returned the item must be considered trustworthy.
That said, voting without being able to state the reason for the vote isn't much worth IMO. The reason might be something which might not be relevant for everyone else, for example. Also, not knowing the reason for a downvote may make others reject the product out of ignorance of what the issue is. It's also easier to abuse the voting system if you don't have to explain why you vote like you do.
And then there are those ratings which are totally irrelevant and misleading, like on amazon where people give good products one star because it was DOA (which good products very well can be sometimes), was damaged in the mail. etc.. They usually state why, but it still affects the average star rating which is what most people look at first. Maybe not so relevant here, but still.
In general, it's difficult to create a voting system which is 100% reliable or trustworthy.
Done (upvoted).

OK, I gave her a thumbs up. The result is still "User Rating: Not enough ratings yet. Be the first to rate this product"
I have my store set to hide items I own. That defeats the new "product-owned" notification.
Yes, it will come up if I look at an item or bundle related to a previous purchase. It did that before.
I won't spend any future time reviewing products. I make a habit to keep negative feedback to a minimum
Sometimes I make a post about a product, but try to keep that feedback at a modified level. And I try to show my respect for the PAs.
I noticed recent sales said you can't use previously purchased items to get price reductions.
Of course the current sale doesn't show that stuff right now.
I haven't seen much appeal in freebies for maybe 20 years.
When I first started out, around 2000, I had no money. I downloaded hundreds of free items, and made lousy renders with them. That was because I didn't know what I was doing.
In recent years the quality or variety of freebies hasn't interested me.
I apprecated people who make the effort.
I just gave her a thumbs up, and it says "very positive" based on 11 ratings.
I gave her a thumbs up, and now it's "very positive" based on 13 ratings.
For me the "thumbs up" or "like" type of ratings are not all that helpful. I realize that this sort of thing is part of our web culture, but I find a few, even if brief, comments are more helpful. Hopefully DAZ will allow for those as time passes.
To be fair, I think these black room with neon lighting tubes are meant as a set that fits toogether as a coherrent tunnel/hall and rooms. I may be wrong though.
