The Gemologica on Fast Grab

Is there a way to convert this product to work in iray? I will work with both render engines and I like to have stuff as verstile as possible without too much messing around with settings but if I'm going to have to spend half a day adjusting the settings for it to work in iray I think I might pass on it.

Shiny metals and glass are amongst the types of materials that look much better in iRay than 3DL, and the many glass and metal shaders built into DS 4.8+ or are available as PA products, will do a much better job than the Gemologica shaders in iRay. That said, there are some 500 plus texture files in this product, to be used on pendants and other jewelry, and coupled with the correct iRay shaders these should still look good in an iRay render. In short, think of this as a shader resource for 3DL and a texture resource for iRay.

Yeah, I have the wood/metal 3DL shader packs and I still use them in Iray as texture resources. I often apply a 3DL shader first, convert to Iray, and then tweak from there (generally adding Metallicity to metals, but also tiling where appropriate).

Just wish I could get the dirt shader to work in Iray (it's a 3DL procedural thing, so...). But I still grab some of those textures, too.

I actually have Gemologica on my wishlist and intend to get it at some point (no money this week, alas); while the special shaders are useless to me, that's a lot of interesting props and shapes to work with.

According to the page, only a pendant and a cord are available as props, all the other shapes shown (crowns, swords etc) are not included in this product. It is more of a shader pack than a prop pack.

Yeah a lot of it will take work in Iray, the precious gem presets will probably come out terrible.  The semi precious ones that use texture maps will probably work with little or no adjustment.  The pearl and shell ones use a lot of 3DL fakery to get to rainbow effects, I know those won't transfer over properly.  Some of the emboss designs use displacement so they won't come out right without either converting to iray uber and cranking the displacement subdivision, or plugging the displacement maps in the bump channel instead.

For Displacement, I used to just crank subd, but I'm finding, more and more, bump works fine most of the time. (Though often you want to make the value about 5x as much).
