Today here in the U.S. is Veteran's Day... And I believe in Canada it's Remembrance Day... Though the words "Happy Veteran's Day" or Remembrance Day seem off somehow, I wish our veterans and those of our allies, a peaceful and pleasent day on this occasion... I thank you for your service and sacrifice and hope that only the happier memories of your days in the service, of old friends and comrades are those that come to mind this day... Be well and thank you.

Remembrance Day is correct for Canada.
Thank you to the veterans who have served or are currently serving.
Rememberance day here in the UK as well.
We will remember them
can never thank you enough for your sacrifices {{hugs}}
I didn't see any war time when I was in. Thank you to all my brother and sisters out there who have sacrifices so much, thank you!
Thank you so much for everything!
The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month...
Sending warm pleasant thoughts and much gratitude to the vets and the current servicemen and women. :-)
May the force be with you.
Remembering all the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice - including my grandfather who was killed in action in WWI.
Thank you, past, present and future, for your service.
Thank you all for your thoughts. It's nice to know at least some people don't think of combat vets as hyperviolent garbage.
Yes, that one's real. I got it at Starbucks this morning with my daily dose of baby-killing accusations.
I've been getting them for 40 plus years. Things have changed, but not enough. My gratitude to those who noticed what we really did, and cared about it and for us; now and in the past.
So cheers to you and to all my comrades in arms, those who serve now, the ones served with me, the many past generations that fought and those who served during peaceful times, for those in future who will also serve.
But mostly, remember those who have given the final gift so their loved ones, and ours have what we have.
My gratitude to all who served. :)
There is no lack of ignorance. Thank you for your service.
People are ignorant and have no clue what freedom actually means and those who have suffered for their freedom. THANK YOU!
My deepest thanks to all of those who have served and to those that are currently serving . You will always be remembered
I got my the first one 25 years ago... and people wonder why I'm a virtual shut-in.
Thank you, veterans around the world and those who are currently serving, for making the world a safer place. Your service and your sacrifices are much appreciated. Hugs.
Well, I started today in what looked to be a new low, and this thread made it that little bit better. Thank you.
I'm sure there's more than one vet that couild say the same after reading this thread.
Thank you all for recognition and support to our military. Salute to all veterans, on a job well done, thanks for serving.
Let's just say "Remember to thank a veteran." Say it often and say it loud.
You're all welcome, even if I made it through my service days without having to make the final sacrifice...
and Mac... sadly enough, usually it's the bad parts that surface, like the friends you lost.
Thank you to those who rember, or care. Thanks, too, to those who served in their country's defence (whether you were my foe, or not).
I served as a medic, in Canada from 77 to 86. "Retired" just before Somalia. I, too, got the babykiller and lowlife comments.. The worse affront, though, was from my own Government, who I served for nearly a decade. "Turn in your uniform, collect your last pay cheque, and no, your ten years in medical service mean absolutely zip." Have fun starting over.
Thank you to the vets
What if you're an woman sitting down on the front of a public bus and someone demands you move to the very back because your forbidden to sit there and you tell them you wont, and then everyone on the bus is now yelling at you and threatening you, and you sill won't move.
or is it ignorant to think this qualifies an act of heroism in the defense of freedom?
This thread is about remembering all who have served in the armed forces, it is not for debating the relative importance or effectiveness of military actions. Please drop the politics.
A day late, but hopefully not a dollar short....
Yesterday was Veterans' Day, a day set aside to honor the members of this country's Armed Services. But remember....
Not so long ago, the day was recognized as Armistice Day; in the U.K. and Canada, and other members of the Commonwealth, the day is commemorated as Remembrance Day. It recalls a day when a war ended, when the guns finally fell silent.
And so, I offer this, something I recall from the third grade, a poem that reminds us, not of a victory, but just how much that victory cost:
IN FLANDERS FIELDS
-- John McCrae, 1915
In Flanders fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row, that
Mark our place; and in the sky, the larks,
Still bravely singing, fly;
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago, we lived:
Felt dawn, saw sunset glow. Loved and were loved;
And now we lie in Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe! To you,
From failing hands, we throw the Torch;
Be yours, to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep.
Though poppies grow in Flanders fields.
To all veterans, and to all of the actively-serving members of our armed forces...,
Thank you.
My Welsh Father in Law, who was one of those who served in both WW1 and WW2 would always sing this one on Nov 11th
