How does DS know an update is available when its not logged in?
I just opened DS, and a popup stated a new update available.. I think I answered my own question maybe? There is a checkbos to when you want to check for updates and mine is set at once a week. BUT, I never log in, so not sure how that works really. 

If I set it to NEVER, will that hose up anything within DS?

    If you have internet on the computer, DS doesn't have to log in for doing a "call home" and get latest version, and compare it to current.

    Nope, just means DS wont "phone home" everytime you start it, mine has been set to "never" for longer than I can remember.
