I am celebrating because it means that PA has passed the try out phase and moved on to normal sales and DAZ+ might not see those black, on black, on neon sets again.
It makes me wonder whether the two other creatures are actually still included or not. The base products disappeared from the store, and the description of the bundle could have been simply not updated.
Since they are still listed in the databse-generated list of included products, with the thumbnails, then yes they are still part of the bundle as far as I know - if they were listed only in the (written-by-a-human) text then they might not be.
That sci-fi-interior-vignette and the techno-mirror-hall both triggered the "another monochromatic monolith going from nowhere to no place special" reaction; no interest whatever. I used to grab every Daz+ item, now I'm passing on more than I'm buying and I find that these two aren't even Daz+ - just guarantees me skipping them.
And you're right on the wishlist sale. I'm absolutely fascinated that I can buy an infinite number of the two items on my wishlist that qualify.
I've leaned to some specific interests over recent months.
That mostly includes senior people, western themes, and Victorian Christmas themes. (A Christmas Carol, etc.)
But honestly those ideas rarely amount to much art to speak of.
Oh, then Barbult got me interested in doing portraits of Richard.
What can I say, Barbult has a really nice ongoing story. I hope you don't mind a little promotion!

No, I don't think it looks as good as most of those, though I did wonder if it was meant to be a vendor freebie. It's not just that the textures and lighting make it look like plastic, but that the structural design is kind of ridiculous and counter to function, with those inverted V shaped arches seeming only to exist to make the hallway "look cool" while practically halving the usable width and making the whole thing more narrow and dificult to walk through.
If the other two items weren't included, what would be the point of keeping the bundle? There are other bundles that contain no-longer-available seperately items like that here at the store and if DAZ advertises that the item is in there, they're kind of obligated to provide it if you buy it.
25 days. I'm getting jittery, shaking, cold sweats. Other than a few Daz+ items, overall the selections in those 25 days are just not in my interest range. Makes not spending a lot easier for sure. Awaiting the new Quick Grabs tomorrow.
I totally get that. I've unintentionally been cutting way back myself, in part because I think the "regular" prices are getting way too high for what's actually delivered and the hoops one has to jump through to get to what I consider a decent sale price are getting ridiculously complex for an increasingly smaller reward (when the promos even work as advertised), and in part because, even though I've now invested a considerable amount of time and money working with it, I still just generally find much of the Genesis 9 process to be a clunky and inconsistant PITA to work with compared to the workflow I'm used to with the G3s and G8s, so the new G9 figures just aren't having the appeal that the older generations still have. At least there are a few decent set artists that are reliable and a good bit of G8 stuff I haven't picked up yet to keep me coming back, but I'm down to one or two smaller carts a week that actually end up getting purchased, with a lot higher percentage of Outlet and Quickgrab items.
...well still need to use my D+ PA coupon, but then there is the Storewide Mega Wish coupon and a lot of wishlist items show up
Remeber wishlist items need to be prior to January 25
I'm ecstatic. I scored the Wild West Saloon Bundle and the Into the West Mega Bundle for $39.
You know, Richard Haseltine had quite an adventure in the Wild West, infiltrating that posse.
this bundle is in Outlet Store for $4 ... M3D Western General Store Building Bundle | Daz 3D
..,already had a few items that qualified.
Richard has had quite an adventure is an understatement. You have given them mega moves. Jack and Richard will never lead dull boring lives thanks to you
.
barbult, it will take me some time to sort out all the Wild West stuff I gathered over recent months.
I wouldn't be surprised if Richard showed up somewhere... but I don't ever want to tread on your story.
daveso, I bought that General Store bundle recently. It'll take me awhile to sort out everything.
Just post in your own thread, and you won't tread on anything. Go for it!
Thanks, but I don't even have a DAZ version of Richard.
It will take some time before I'm ready to try my own running story... The recent wealth of Western content has me intrigued.
But are you actually rendering anything? Or just going through shopping withdrawal? ;) (On a more serious note, congrats! I don't know if I ever went so long without a purchase.)
Mostly withdrawal
I have actually been doing some scenes, trying different products, getting somewhat frustrated as all I seem to be able to do are portrait type renders. I need to get back to where I was way back in Poser days, rekindle that creative enthusiasm. When it was all new. I have the products, just need to fire up myimagination. What's interesting about that, every product I buy comes with a use, a scene, in mind. For whatever reason, once in my runtime it just sort of flies away. Anyway, this is getting out of the realm of sales, which sooner or later, there will be another one.
I just haven't got any enthusiasm for any sales right now. I have a few possibilities with the WL deals & a small store credit from a resolved issue.
Since we're snowed in, I should probably ask hubby if he got around to making me a partition on his new Big External Drive and see if I can do at least some Filatoon rendering.
If you need a creative spark, join Totte's fun RRRR. You'll be amazed what you can dream up using a few randomly chosen products from your library. It is a contest with prizes, but mostly about having fun with what you own. There is no pressure to buy anything in order to participate. I used to participate every time, but I got too busy IRL, so I gave it up for now.
thanks. I checked out RRRR, looks cool. The only drawback is getting all the products into a text file , or whatever, and sorted. Daunting project, it seems to be.
If you've installed with DIM, you can have DIM export a CSV file listing all you products. It makes it pretty easy to get the list. CSV files are readable text with column delimiters. Spreadsheet programs can read CSV, and any text editor should be able to open them. I used to use Excel to read the CSV and make a nice row and column list of the product info. In DIM, you can choose what data to include in the CSV file. There is no law that says you have to include everything you own in the list. You can choose to ignore ancient stuff if you wish. This is about having fun with what you have.
Thank you very much. I knew I had seen the CSV file thing somewhere. I looked at my DAZ account, but nothing there. I'm off to DIM-land. I belong there anywhere, as my light is dulling.
What you're describing happens to me, too; in that way, the shopping somehow manages to strangle the actual creativity. Only reasonably good explanation (just FYI) I've found so far is that our friend imagination is actually a rather lazy guy; he wants to play but is not so keen on the hard work that usually needs to follow. If it fires up in a shopping process and then you go ahead and buy the thing it composed, say, a render in your head about, then it'll be quite happy to accept the buying as the finishing of the whole process. Because it did all the imagining, didn't it? So it can take the rest of the day off, no? ... Sorta like that is how it works, I think.
Some nice variety in the QG set this week! Hoping folk find some treasures.
I think a big part of it is that there's a lot regurgitation of similar products comes with every new figure base so a lot of what's in the store isn't really all that "new" perception-wise... Coupled that with the fact that a lot of the tools, scripts, utilities, etc. a lot of us use haven't been duplicated yet, while the tricks required for using the newer stuff often requires a different mental process (example: working with dforce cothing and hair versus conforming.) It all gets away from the fun. What you might want to try is to go back to an earlier figure base, as I spent a good bit of time and money trying to integrate G9 into my process and oten found it grueling due to all the quirks and issues with that system, but when I go back to working with G3 and G8 I can just let loose, go by instinct, and spend more time being creative.
I'm pretty sure even V4 seemed overall to be pretty darn good. Yeah, its like each generation takes away some of the excitement..its all great one the first day, but then you realizze a lot of your workflow has changed, and you end up dealing with that instead of doing something productive. I'm also thinking I was more creative using Poser than DS. I liked the interface a lot overall.
