General Questions about Hardware Requirements for DAZ Studio.

Hello, I have a few Questions about DAZ Studio. I started working with DAZ Studio a few Months ago. So far, I haven't rendered any finished Images, but I've noticed that DAZ Studio requires certain Hardware Specifications. In my search for Information on Hardware Requirements, I found a lot of different Information.

What I've already found out is that Daz Studio is only compatible with Nvidia Graphics Cards for rendering iRay. Is there a list of which Nvidia Graphics Cards are supported? Furthermore, I would like to know if 16GB of RAM is sufficient to start with, or how much RAM is needed for reasonably good work with DAZ Studio. What I haven't been able to find out yet is whether DAZ Studio is also compatible with AMD Processors?

I am currently working with a Computer with the following Hardware. RAM: 16GB, Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics, Graphics Card: AMD Radeon Pro WX3100.

Will an Nvidia Graphics Card work with an AMD Processor? As mentioned at the beginning, iRay does not use the AMD Graphics Card for rendering because iray is only compatible with Nvidia Graphics Cards. Instead, the Processor is used for rendering, which then has a 100% utilization. This works, but I don't know if it's always a good thing when the Processor is fully utilized. Will it wear out faster then?

I'm not very Computer savvy, but is it possible to just replace the Graphics Card with an Nvidia Graphics Card, or do I need a completely new Computer? I had this Computer custom-built in this configuration not too long ago. However, this was before I started working with DAZ Studio. Therefore, I would wait a while before buying anything new. Are there any other functions in DAZ Studio that have higher Performance Requirements? What about dForce?

If a new Computer is absolutely necessary, is it still possible to use AMD Processors, or does only Intel Processors work? I have only used AMD Components so far and would like to stick with AMD Products, but then with an Nvidia Graphics Card.

This is a lot of Text, but I hope someone can Answer my many Questions.

AMD CPUs are fine, a lot of us use them.

16GB of (I assume) system RAM is mean but not unworkable, I believe. In general you would want more, and you want two to three times as much system RAM as GPU memory to allow working space (and ideally more than 8GB of GPU memory). Currently 10x0 and later nVidia cards are supported, but the 10x0 cards are deprecated - menaing they could be dropped at any time.As you say, Iray can remnder using the CPU, but it is much slower than almost any GPU - I suppose any kind of heavy load does increase wear and tear, but if you are concerned you can use the Affinity section of the hardware tab of Render Settings to limit the number of cores that will be used (which obviously makes the render slower). If this is a desktop system you should be able to swap the GPU, but bear in mind the advice about system memory in proportion to GPU memory; if system memory runs out the data should be swapped to disc, but that will make the process much slower 9and if the temp file is on a smaller SSD it may run out of space, and will suffer wear from frequent writes).

Hello Richard Haseltine, are you referring to this Model when you say "10x0 Nvidia Graphics Cards"? (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_10_seriesI found a List of Nvidia Graphics Cards on Wikipedia. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nvidia_graphics_processing_units#)

Are all Models after the "GeForce 10 Series" compatible with DAZ Studio? Would you say that if I buy a Nvidia Graphics Card from the GeForce RTX 30 or 40 Series, it will be supported by DAZ Studio for the next few Years?

So the Processor I currently have Installed would be sufficient to start with? Which processor generation would you recommend?

Are there any other features in DAZ Studio that require an Nvidia Graphics Card? So far, I've only noticed the Processor being at full capacity when rendering with iRay. What's the deal with "dForce," which is mentioned in the Title or Description of some Products? Is an Nvidia Graphics Card required for that?

The other two features of DS (main application, currently) that will use the GPU use different features and are not tied to nVdia cards (though AMD does seem to be at least sometimes problematic with OpenCL, used by dForce, as it supports a later version of the API and doesn't always work well with the version DS wants 9nVidia and intel GPUs dop work, as does the Intel OpenCL driver for CPUs - which, I beleive, also works for AMD CPUs)

Recebtly nVidia seems to have dropped an older gernation from Iray support about the time a new geenration releases. That isn't guaranteed, but going by recent patterns the 30x0 cards would be supported uintil after the 70x0 cards arrived and the 40x0 cards until after the 80x0 carfs arrived, so yes it would seem likely they would be supported for a while yet.

Thank you for the wealth of Information. If I have further Questions, can I also send you a Direct Message? If they say that with the release of a new Graphics Card Series, the fourth oldest Series will no longer be supported, does that mean that compatibility with DAZ Studio will be removed via an Update? Is this iRay Renderer an Nvidia Product that is only integrated into DAZ Studio, or is it a Product invented by the DAZ Studio Developers that only works with Nvidia Graphics Cards?

A General Question, Is Daz Studio a Product developed by Nvidia, or is only the iRay Renderer from Nvidia, and is the Program independent of Nvidia?

Daz is developing Daz Studio. Iray is licensed from Nvidia.

When a card is no longer supported, it means that at some point in time NVidia will release a version of Iray will not be able to be used by certain cards, and when Daz implement that version, the users cannot render with these cards.
