Iray server and 50xx cards?

My plan, not sure if it'll work. Run the iray server on the same pc I'm working on, using Daz4.xx to make the scene and the iray server to render out. This way I don't need to bounce between D4 and D5. Has anyone tried this?/ does the iray server side support 50xx cards?

    IIRC that has been tested before (when the first versions of Iray server supporting 50xx cards were released) but doesn't work

  • As i understand it, iray server will use the same version of Iray as is being used in studio, and you can't get around it.

    If you want to use iray server with 50xx cards, you'll need to send it from the alpha build.

    The iray server actually supports quite a few versions of iray going back a few years and, when launched, fires up 'worker' processes which handle each of those versions. As DrunkMonkey says, unfortunately, the server will use the worker which corresponds to the renderer integrated into the executable which submitted the render to the queue and so you'll still need 2025 if you want to use a 5xxx.

    Bear in mind the server won't render background environments using sun/sky or dome/scene with no HDRI but using it does offload the work so you can carry on using Studio if that's something that would be helpful to you. The lighting still works but you'd have to render the sky separately and overlay the two images if you use either of those modes.

    Server doesn't render the 'background', if you don't have Draw Dome enabled, just like in studio. No HDRI is required.

     If you set the Enfrionment mode to Sun-sky only, any HDRI will be ignored, no background or lighting from it,  in either case.

    Edit your render job parameters in the iray server before starting it, by changing RGBA to RGB and it will render the background/HDRI just fine at the same time as everything else.

    Or you can leave the default RGBA, but you will need to remove the transparency data from your render (i.e. the resulting PNG) in GIMP or Photoshop, and the background will magically appear when you do so.

    @franky85

    Brilliant. Thank you for this - it will save a lot of time compositing which I've been doing previously.
