Will we ever get "The Girl 9" ?

I'm sure I'm not the only one waiting for this character to be released. She is an Iconic Daz 3d Model! Why is it taking so long?

I would also love to see this character as native Gen 9.

I've been waiting for "The Girl 9" as well. But at this point, unfortunately, I've given up hope for seeing a G9 version of The Girl. I use "Girl 7 for Girl 8" a lot with my G8F characters (I like The Girl 7 much more than The Girl 8). For G9 I've resorted to using some of the more toon looking characters with somewhat similar features to do the same thing (add a bit of toon to other characters).

This reminds me that I have a conversion of "Girl 7 for Girl 8" waiting for me to fix the eye issues with the conversion from Genesis 8 to Genesis 9.

It's really strange that some products that could be called GIRL 9's DO products don't have that name.

Those both feel much more anime inspred than the Girl, who was a riff on Tex Avery's famous "Red" character from cartoons like Red Hot Riding Hood and Swing Shift CInderella, and both of these were made by established artists who already do their own toon styles.  FWIW, IIRC the original The Girl (back in the days of Victoria 3) was not originally a DAZ product but one created by a PA, KGoossens, that DAZ bought.  The Girl 4 was a pretty solid clone of that character, as was The Girl 5 for Genesis, but the subsequent The Girls all deviated further and further from the original design, with the Girl 8 only being vaguely similar.  Given that Aiko was a much more popular character that followed a similar progression arc over the generations and that Aiko 9 ended up behind the DAZ connect paywall for Premier, my guess is that if The Girl 9 ever appears, she'll follow a similar path.

Here is a quick WIP of my version of The Girl for G9. She isn't much like the original The Girl, but she is somewhat similar to the G7F version of the girl. She needs more tweaking, but I'm resonably happy with her. I think her head needs to be a bit larger, and possibly her hands and feet. The skin is from FPD Mariah. The morphs used so far can be seen below if anyone is interested.

FIrst, that's a beautiful character, but she's way too tall and willowy and I don't see much of what makes The Girl The GIrl in it.  The Girl is meant to have a strong 40s retro vibe and every version has retained the distinctive large lips, the exagerated eye-liner and heavy-lidded eyes, rounded curves, and the large head/shorter torso proportions of the original inspiration.  Compare this animation of Red by the animator who animated all of her MGM cartoons, Preston Blair, with store images of The Girl 7 and The Girl 4, and the design lineage is very obvious.

Dustrider, that's a beautiful character! Thanks for sharing the render and for the info on how you shaped her. Very inspiring!

Thanks for your compliment. Yeah, I should have loaded up Girl 7 for G8 so I could compare, I was just going from memory. I did another render and added Girl 7 for G8 to compare with the character above. I did adjust the scale of Girl 7 for G8 to 94% so she wasn't distractibly large compared to my character. I also redid her skin shaders so they looked similar to the other character. Other than that, she is straight out of the box Girl 7 for G8F. I also used the same outfit (different materials), the same pose, and similar hair to make comparison easier (I could have used the same hair ... but it was more fun to use something else).

The render makes the differences pretty obvious. No surprise, like I noted before, the head and hands need to be larger (I think the eyes and feet need to be larger as well). Possibly the propagating scale for the hands would also make her arms a bit thicker, if not, then making the arms thicker would also be needed. I also had the feeling that her chest/rib cage needed to be wider, and I thing the comparison definitely makes resoundingly reinforces that thought. Her shoulders also need to be wider/broader. I think her knees need to be a bit thicker, however I was surprised to see that her legs aren't very far off from Girl 7 (no doubt the original The Girl 3/4 is a bit less willowy, but looking at the old renders of the Girl 4 below, her legs aren't as stout as I remembered). Her hips are rounder than Girl 7, I think they look more like Girl 3/4.

Well, back off to refine things a bit more. It might be hard to find appropriate make up though.

Thanks!! Your welcome. If I come up with something closer to Girl 7, I'll share that too.

Oh yes, that's much, much closer and she looks amazing (and MUCH better than the official The GIrl 8.)  As far a makeup goes, I would suggest PhilW's Ultimate Makeup for G9, which I find to be the most versatile makeup set for "realistic" look that's currently out there for G9.

Thanks for the makeup recomendation, It's on my whishlist now.

This is the best I've been able to come up with for G9 so far. I think I like the original version better, she just isn't The Girl, but that's OK.

Wow, I knew there were morphs missing in the "official" G9 morph set from DAZ, but I kind of forgot about it since I hadn't really tried to go full on and try to copy a character. There are so many basic morphs missing it's really hard to do much of anything serious. Something as basic as mouth width just isn't there (unless I completely missed it). I seems like tthere are a lot of things missing to create unique faces that were always there with G8 and earlier. I couldn't find anything to create more distance beween the nose and mouth, to make the distance between the chin and mouth greater, etc., etc.

Without taking her into Hex or Blender, I think this may be the best I can do. I don't have anything to make her eyes larger in the right areas (I have lots of eye morphs, just nothing the seems to work the way I want, where I want). Oh well, enough complaining. I changed the body morphs quite a bit because I noticed the shoulder bends looked pretty much like bent noodles. As a result, her legs, especially the thighs got thicker. So I used thigh morphs to thin them a bit, but stopped where she was more like the original Girl.

I guess the moral of the story here is if I really want Girl 7 with G9 I'll have to do the manual work to complete the full conversion (I probably would have been done with it if I did that instead of trying to make my own from morph dials surprise).

Here is the new version on the left, with the G8F version of the Girl 7 on the right.

Here is the morph list for anyone whose interested. - Yeah, I kind of went crazy

  • Great comments everyone, I have enjoyed reading them. Fingers crossed DAZ sees the demand and finally makes version 9 (and that keeps it looking like the classic versions)

I was told that Kim Goossens' original design was inspired by the work of the comic artist known as Dany.

Warning: an image search may produce some NS4W hits.

Definitely a strong resemblence to Dany's later work and very likely a direct inspiration.  That said, it has to be noted that Dany is a Belgian artist who works in the Franco-Belgium comics industry and Tex Avery was always worshipped by the French as a major artistic innovator and influence, and was recognized there to an exponentially greater level than he was in the U.S. during his lifetime (this despite the fact that he was always been acknowledged as one of the key definers of what would become the Warner Brothers style and was the director who molded Bugs Bunny into a superstar, including coining the phrase "What's up, Doc?).  If you think I exagerate, consider that Avery's death in 1980 was covered nationwide by French print and television as noted here by legendary animation historian Jerry Beck https://www.cartoonbrew.com/animators/french-tv-coverage-of-tex-averys-passing-55753.html  (sadly, the original newsclip isn't available on youtube anymore since Mr. Beck himself is no longer with us, though I did find a French documentary about Avery, with coverage on the Girl character starting around 25.37 at https://www.facebook.com/reel/1267136573682457 ) The French even released a set of Tex Avery postage stamps in 2008 on the 100th anniversary of his birth.  With that in mind, and the strong resemblence, it's hard not to consider that Day himself was probably strongly influenced by images of Avery's work.
